PC Gaming

There's always an option for windows 😉. Each to their own but I will never buy M$ product ever, lol. Screw them, they still rich even without my money.

A friend of mine works with some kind software retailer or something idk, he has ton of M$ product from old to new, you name it. I'll just ask him when i need new keys and he's happily give it to me 😄

Only from sketchy website but i know some legit source to get it, easy peasy 😉. But if some of you are to paranoid then yes just get a cheap key.

Linux + Proton here. Got into it, coz' I saw first some version on my Steam Deck OLED and I liked it a lot, and after my curisity was growing even bigger. Feels weird at first and tricky until you get into specifics, but it's very clean, and I don't need to deal or miss Microsoft's corporate bullshit.

As I need to buy a new High-End PC very soon as my PC is struggling with several issues I've also looked up new Monitors.

It's simply crazy that I don't really find anything that really suits me + has good Reviews.

I need the following things:
- 1440p
- At least 144 Hz
- HDMI 2.1
- 2x DP
- 27 ''
- Gsync
- No Oled (don't trust it with Monitors)
- No fancy Design
- No curved Monitor

The only suitable I have found for now is the Dell G274D. I like Dell and the Office style looks but it has some worrying reviews because it's IPS and quality-control.

There are 4 Monitors on the market for you:

Why does your monitor need 2x DP? 🤷‍♂️
Besides that feature, there are plenty of screens fitting your needs.

That Alienware Monitor actually looks very good.

Well, I have a Setup with two PCs (Private and Home Office). Currently using a KVM Switch but would rather just connect both directly to a Monitor.

Ah ok. That’s the only thing I came up with, multiple sources. Well, the screens feature hdmi and dp usually. Why not hock one up with each? Makes the search easier.
I run my triples with 1x and 2x DP. Works like a charm.

That HDMI slot on the Monitor belongs to my PS5 and on the second Monitor my plan in the future is to build some kind of HDMI switcher that I can use my SkyQ Receiver on it.

For now I'm just scoping the market. As I said I have problems with my current PC and I want to make a full cut and buy a complete new and future proof PC + two new Monitors. Currently using a Dell S2716DG + an old 1080p Samsung Monitor as 2nd screen.

Oh… That’s a massive setup then. 😊🫡

Looks like the gpu prices and specs aren't going to be any better [if not worse] with next gen. Looks like another 2 years for waiting for the next next gen gpu for me.

If you want to future proof more potentially look into buying a 144HZ 4K monitor, they can be purchased relatively cheaply now.
Unless there is a specific reason for wanting a 1440p.

As for the OLED monitors personally I think they are incredible - Not owned one although tempted but someone at work has one and seen it in action.
The picture quality is insane for a monitor and they are even 240hz - After seeing one I am tempted to buy but February is going to be an expensive month with the 5090 release and 9950X3D chip.

GPU prices are going to be slightly worse yes but until officially announced I am taking the prices and specs with a pinch of salt.
They are claiming the 5090 is going to blow the 4090 out the water but cost £2000 - £2500.
There hasn't been much leaked for the 5080 as yet although it will be announced at the same time as the 5090.

If they are under £2000 I will buy one, but if they are £2500 then I simply won't - As £2500 for a card is insane.

Personally just think 4k for a 27 inch Monitor is overkill, 1440p is the sweet spot but well, in the future you never know.

As for OLED, I love it. I have an insane LG Oled TV and can't ever go back to another display tech, by far superior quality. I won't risk it for a Monitor though because of the burn in risk and degradation. I know burn in isn't really that big topic anymore because of Pixel refreshers etc. but nobody can really tell how future proof those Oled Monitors are because they are not on the market for that long.

I had burn in on my first ever OLED TV, therefore I'm "branded" :D the good thing was that I was able to replace it even though the warranty was over and they damaged it and there wasn't any replacement available then. So they had to refund me the original price and with that money I bought a way better and newer Version Oled and even saved 1k in the process. That Oled is now working as a charm for years.

I’m looking into pairing my 5800x3d with a 8800xt next spring to replace the 6800xt.
Below 1k I’m having my fingers crossed for. 😊
The 8800XT probably will be under £1000.
It is only the high end Nvidia cards which are absolutely stupidly overpriced - As they have zero competition on the high end.

I would really like a 5090 but reckon will be outpriced.

On the subject of monitors; I've been building PCs for years but never really for my personal enjoyment given the cost involved - more for family members, for odd jobs for friends etc...

Thanks to @Placebo (for being genuinely the best human being I know outside of my partner) and a box of spare parts he sent over to get me off the ground (as a 40th birthday present), and a little dip into my savings for some upgrades here and there, I've built two lovely machines - one for me, one for the missus.

I do all my PC gaming (possibly 2hrs a week if I'm lucky) on the living room TV, which is a lovely 65" 4K HDR VRR Sony A90J.

However, when setting up the missus' (worse spec) PC upstairs, on a 23" 144hz 1080p monitor I use for work (which is nothing special)...

I'm simply amazed at the difference. Truly shocked. I would much rather play on the monitor and I never could have imagined that.

I must be sensitive to response times, because nobody else in the family seems to be able to see the difference between 30hz, 60hz, 120hz and 144hz. Whereas it looks so much smoother to me that I just can't go back to 60hz, which seems juddery in comparison (even though I know it's not).

So I'm probably going to end up asking if I can swap PCs and use hers (with its Radeon 5700) more often than mine (with its RTX 4070 Super)...

You have kind of put a PC Master Race comment as diplomatic and as good as I have ever read.

I don't think I can or want to afford anything over 700$. So I think that will only get me a rtx 5060. And seeing the rumours, I think I will sit another 2-4 years out.

Yeah this is an interesting take. I was talking about this with my wife a few days ago.

We don't have an overly expensive "main TV" but it is a Sony HDR 52" TV. However, the "TV" aspect of things is kinda pointless in my house because I don't get TV reception here and its all done through either Sky TV (satellite dish) or the internet. So both main TV inputs are HDMI! And then on top of that we have two extra HDMI inputs of the PS5 and PC. So makes you wonder, why the heck are we buying a "TV" when a decent large monitor would be significantly better (and possible more expensive?)?

We were catching up on Rings of Power S2 on Amazon (via Internet...) and the TV (£850 at the time) was just lacking when dealing with the dark scenes where as my 32" monitor (£350) on my PC would look 100x better. Making me reconsider what my next "TV" purchase will be.

I guess LG Oleds are the way to go.
What would a 55inch monitor cost..? I bet more. Much more. 🤷‍♂️

I have never plugged my PC into my current LG OLED 55" C2.
But my previous OLED was a B17 (2017) OLED and I always preferred my monitor to the OLED as it was 120HZ and 1ms response.

My current OLED should be good enough for gaming as it is 120HZ but also am not 100% sure but think again it is only 5ms input, which was considered anti gaming.

This is why I am really tempted with a OLED monitor as they are 240Hz with the latest LG 480Hz - With a 0.2ms response time - Crazy stats.
Problem is they are £1000 and TBH I already own a 32" 144hz 4K monitor so it is incredibly hard to justify.

I don't think there is something which suits both in the perfect way.

If you are into watching TV Series and Movies in very good 4k HDR quality, you have to get an LG OLED TV . I've got the LG OLED 55'' E9 7LA and it's a such a joy to watch stuff on it, especially the black levels. You won't believe it until you really sat in front of it and watch stuff. It's so much better than any other TV panel from another brand.

On the other hand, Gaming on a Monitor, especially FPS Games is way better if you sit in front of your way smaller Monitor. Even though the Oled reaches 120 Hz it's somehow more enjoyable to play on a Monitor.

Guess I can't wait anymore before buying a new PC. My PC crashes are getting worse and I can't figure out the problems.

I will post a possible rig for you to judge in the next days (budget will be about 3500 €).

Will build something with the Fractal North case with the wooden look.

One thing I'm wondering, are extra case fans really not needed? Are stock case fans and 360mm Corsair Aio enough for cooling?

No but get the North XL - Your system will run much cooler.

Should be able to get a really good machine for 3500.
