Dreadful performance, was genuinely angry with the team today as I wasn't convinced they work working as hard as Southampton, rather they were expecting their talent to carry them through. Not singling anyone out for criticism because as far as I'm concerned the team as a whole underperformed.
Trying to remain positive, I'll say we've yet to have a steady back four and now we're swapping goalkeepers, that is never a good position to be in, so hopefully Vidic and Rio can get a run of games together. Perhaps then when Smalling, Jones and Evans are fully fit we can use them as full-backs to give us some extra height and strength when required, so teams such as Soton and Everton don't lean on our full backs.
Glad RVP is having an immediate impact, there's always a risk of a Torres-esque saga with a big transfer like this, but 4 goals in 2 starts is quite the opposite. Impressed with his initiative in taking the game to Southampton as well, it's always good to have characters who are capable of doing that.
Scholes was impressive coming off the bench, I suspect this might be his role this season, coming on when the other team is tiring and unable to press him as much as they would from the start, allowing him to play his game, which is a sight to behold as ever. A word for Chicharito too, who did well in stretching the game and I'm happy to see that after the recent (unfounded) speculation on his future.
Overall, work to be done, but a slow start to the season is not unusual for us, even if some of our flaws feel all too familiar from last season.
