Manchester United Thread

Evans is already settled really, he was magnificent last season.

Just needs an extended run in the team.

i disagree, while i'd admit there were the odd game he shined, overall i think he's still got a fair mistakes and out of position (although not as bad as ferdinands/smallings positional play)

although he has grown a bit more on me over last season so lets hope he can step up and do less mistakes/be better position although think ideally i'd have vidic and jones as my cb pairing (even though jones form was highest at start for us, went a bit more sloppy further in)

every time i watch ferdinand, he's out of position too much, he plays like he has the pace he used to have in his best days, and you'd think he'd sit a bit deeper but he still hasn't adapted that and coming up to 34, i think if he can't learn that now, then won't be long til he's out the team.

and what a difference scholes made against southampton, just shows how much in midfield we lack that spark, bit of imagination, why we keep delaying this and hope scholes gets younger is beyond me.

Sad to hear at soccernet that we were willing to sell nani to zenit, but his crazy wage demands made the deal fall through...

I like nani a lot, but if he can't get his mind straight, he wont be going anywhere...u reckon fergie would still use him??

Along with Nani, interesting that some Rooney quotes have emerged from his book - of course written before all the rumours last week of him leaving - which say in no uncertain terms he wants his entire career to be at United.

I do wonder what we're going to do with him though. If only it were easy to convert him to midfield...

what about playing him in that position near the oppositions goal? so he can receive the ball and utilize that ability to score? Ah Yes a Striker, we should play him as a Striker. :))

I hear Ronaldo is unhappy at Real and had quarrel with some team guys :D.

Maybe Nani to Zenith bring back Ronny <lol>.

Out of the two... No competition ^_^.

(just to keep ya guys in good mood haha)

Not any of the deals will come true.

Yeah, but we've got lots of those. What we don't have is someone with a good engine, pace, vision and tenacity for the middle of the park. He could be the next Alan Smith!

I don't trust the Daily Mail, so let's hope it's not true. Knowing our "luck" it probably is though.

We're the new Arsenal - true title contenders wrecked season after season by injuries.

Pathetic. What annoys me is that it's players that are young and should be at peak physical condition who are getting hurt (Evans, Jones, Smalling, Anderson). They must not be stretching or something.

Get em all on that Giggsy yoga programme I say.

It's more a case of keeping our defenders fit rather than needing another alternative.

I don't think footballers are at their physical peak in their early 20s, more mid to late 20s, like a lot of Man City's squad, which is one of the reasons for their lack of injuries.

I give Rio 2 more weeks.

Evans and Vida are too slow as a partnership to work, imo. It's a real issue.

Pity we didn't stump up a few more quid for Rafael Varane - he looks serious quality.

Stop moaning, be happy Utd squad is stacked in defence. Midfield is a worry...

That's like saying having Owen Hargreaves means we had a world class midfielder.

Players are only useful if they can actually play football. In the last 18 months, Rio, Vidic, Jones, Smalling and Evans have each missed large chunks of the year due to major injuries.

That's all of our centre backs.

Wonder if this will be Rio's last season at the top level. I don't think Evans will be a long term regular in the starting XI, probably as 3rd choice so hopefully Smalling can establish himself this season, injury permitting.

Did these players have a history of injury (bar Rio, who is just a crock through age)?

not sure about the younger players. vidic injuries usually thru him throwing his head at peoples knees...

just one of those things really, think we've had the "luck" of being injury free in defense during our most recent trophy run...

happens to most clubs every now and again imo.

Think Evans was much improved when he got s good run in the team last year, still young for top defender really.

Well the good news is that Phil and Chris are about to get some company - world is that both Kagawa and RVP have been hurt on international duty.

Typical.

Edit: Rumours that Buttner is injured too! Happy days! Our most injured trophy is already looking in good shape this season.
