Manchester United Thread

If there is one annoying thing about Tony V...its his predictability.
He does not have a left foot and all a defender needs to do is to stop him from crossing with his right peg. The Gala LB did well for most of the game and on the occasions where Valencia beats him is by raw pace...having said that...most of his crosses were rather poor last night.

It was a strange game indeed and we were lucky not to concede or even lose the game.

Positives;
Shinji Kagawa is back.
RvP is back.
Our back line looks solid again.

Negatives;
Too passive after we got the goal.
CMs keep playing thru the wings instead of thru Kagawa or RvP.

We were crap, still got the result though. It's like we get a bit flustered when are opponents don't sit back and go at us, its like they expected Galatasaray to sit back all night and got stunned then they gave us a lot of room to work with and intended to attack themselves.

Well you never know, our midfield was as bad if not worse in 2011/11 and yet we ended up in the final.

Granted we got absolutely dry-bummed by Barca's midfield on the day but we still got there.

The thing is I agree with Bennie for once here.

We do look horrible at times. We may not even push for 2nd place in the league this year... Which will be most frustrating thing. Ever.

And it will be due to Sir Alex being stubborn and relying on very aged players who won't do good in this time and era anymore. We will get outpaced and Scholes mistakes since start of season are v. visible.

Time to bring in some firecrackers to the team. (have you seen Oscar for Chelsea yesterday? Phenomenal. But I would pick Vidal asap. Pure class XD).

Too quick to write us off.Havent you learned anything about us yet?

yes. I learned that in the league you should never be written off but tactically naive in Europe plus you havent got the midfield to ever compete with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus etc...

I just don't understand Ferguson on the midfield. We've been poor for almost 3 seasons now - and the only reason I viewed us as being alright back then was the naive hope that a fit Hargreaves would magically appear.

Everton, Wigan, Basel, Galatasaray, Atleti, Fulham - almost any team has a good shot of outplaying our midfield.

And the thing is I can't blame Carrick. He was awesome last night. But he needs to be in a Pirlo type role - surrounded by others to do his running. Combining him and Scholes essentially cedes the midfield battle.

It's just infuriating, because (if they ever get fit) our defence is class, our keeper is class (despite what the media try to say) and our attacking options are as good as any other team in the world. If we could just get a midfielder in their prime, who can run all day, hassle opponents and recycle possession we'd be mint.

But no. We'll keep buying random wingers and strikers. And Nick Powell, an 18 year old who has never played at the top level and last season didn't even play in midfield. That'll solve the problem.

De Gea was magnificent last night AGAIN! His double save made me so happy. He looked so commanding when screaming at the defence, if only he was that commanding when collecting corners and crosses under pressure!

Also Beach, Powell played AMF last season where as Fergie sees him as a deep lying playmaker.. Either way the kids young and promising! Be happy, but don't hype it is all I say.

From what I understand AMF is a bit of stretch - he was more 'in the hole' but regardless, he wasn't a central midfielder. Anyway, yes, hopefully he can be shaped into one (Scholes was a striker).

But it just saddens me that we'll never get to see our attack properly supported. RVP, Rooney, Valencia and Nani are probably right around their peak - and that is a very talented group.

Anyway, it's definitely a 1st world problem/big team problem so I shouldn't complain, but Fergie is almost comically blind on this one.

You do have an amazingly easy group though, so while it's unlikely that you'll win it I would say that the quarters and semis might be possible. Braga were exposed by Cluj last night and Cluj themselves are a bit of a 2-3 season wonder in Romania - they're of the level of Otelul last year and Unirea a few years ago and dont have the consistency or the experience of say Steaua or Rapid or Dinamo (the Bucharest teams), having beaten Galatasaray at home you should be able to win the group now. Winning the group should see you play a reasonable runner up in the second round - if you're unlucky you could face a team like Juventus, maybe Dortmund (if they pip City) or Schalke, but chances are you would face a beatable team in that round.

Thought we were poor in ist half of wigan game, weds we also well below CL level, ended up being v.lucky.

Good that we are still picking up points but this happened last year, lfc is going to be a tough tough game.

This will be handed to every United fan at Anfield:

"Dear Supporter,

"The great support you gave the team here [at Anfield] last season has seen our allocation back up to near-full levels. I want you to continue that progress today.

"But today [Sunday] is about much more than not blocking gangways. Today is about thinking hard about what makes United the best club in the world.

"Our rivalry with Liverpool is based on a determination to come out on top - a wish to see us crowned the best against a team that held that honour for so long.

"It cannot and should never be based on personal hatred. Just ten days ago, we heard the terrible, damning truth about the deaths of 96 fans who went to watch their team try and reach the FA Cup final and never came back. What happened to them should wake the conscience of everyone connected with the game.

"Our great club stands with our great neighbours Liverpool today to remember that loss and pay tribute to their campaign for justice. I know I can count on you to stand with us in the best traditions of the best fans in the game.

"Yours sincerely, Sir Alex Ferguson."

Well I was there last season and I heard a few people singing Murderers in the queue on the way in and they sang 'without killing anyone, won it 3 times' and Murderers during the match. So they weren't 'brilliant' in that sense.

I do have a feeling it's all overblown though and they will behave. I'm slightly worried if they don't though. I've got a ticket right near the away fans but I'm sat in with the Liverpool fans (dads got a season ticket and a spare). If it kicks off before/after the match then I'll be right in the middle of it, completely fucked.

I'd hope if anyone is caught singing anything then our own fans will sort them out. I know for a fact a few at OT were told to shut up or they'd get their heads kicked in when the 'always the victim' chants started.

We play like pub team so far... :(

Liverpool look World Class -.-

Says it's all. De Gea might have career ruined now thanks to Ferguson being stubborn :/. I hate him for that. Same happened with Berbatov, Kuszczak and few others already :/. FFS!

Lindergaard is having a good game too.

Damn you Fergie!

:BRICK:

We've played abysmally, except Evans, Rio and Rafael. And to top it off, Shelvey get's himself sent off, so even if we play better in the 2nd half, it'll be in large part down to having an extra man.

Couldn't see Liverpool keeping up that level of pressing and I definitely can't see it happening with 10 men.

Wish we had the old Fletcher back at this point, badly need some energy in the centre of the park.

4 Positives.

- Rafael
- Rio
- Lindergaard
- We Scored a Pen

Negatives

Liverpool deserved the win.

Rafael's goal was well worked. The penalty was as blatant a dive as I've seen, Valencia wants to have a word with himself.

Was a nothing game before the sending off, 0-0 all the way. We were crap, they weren't much better.

Once we got a bit of space we had more of the ball. Still thought it would be a draw but we were given a gift.

Any win over them I'll take gladly and we keep the pressure on at the top.

If we play like that more, we will end the season... In 3rd place. If we are lucky <lol>.

Seriously though, we play some bad football as of late, not flowing, bad tempo, not keeping possession, no pressure on opponents!

We were v. lucky to win today after, let's say it honestly, referee howler.

Glad we won, but that is not Champions style of winning :(.
