Manchester United Thread

Um. What?

Fantastic first half. Bar some finishing/saves we could be 3 up easily. It turns out playing midfielders that have some energy and close down opponents improves us. Who'd of guessed that?

Personal thing, I just hate him. No clue, think it stems from PES when his growth was poor, also that I just can't think how he fits in he's average at best but is treated like the next big thing.

Otherwise brilliant first half :)

We have some very odd 'luck' in draws in England. (CL we've had a doddle, despite losing)

The last few matches in FA Cup and Carling Cup, in only the past 2 seasons (and this one):

Chelsea
Newcastle
Manchester City
Liverpool
Crystal Palace
Liverpool
Arsenal
Manchester City

I mean, statistically the odds of us having so many top 4 teams (and Liverpool) are almost nil. I don't mean to suggest anything untoward, but thinking purely from a tv viewership perspective...

Bloody hell, just looked at that week:

Sunday - away at Stamford Bridge in the league
Wednesday - away at Stamford Bridge in the COC
Sunday - home to Arsenal in the league

Cripes.

that was the league game I had to correct the scores, you know the facts checkers :P

4-1 in October n January 6th fa(1-3) 9th cc(3-6)

I expect a full squad for Chelsea n a mixed squad for MUTD. Newcastle had a strong side tonight I saw the match on Bein Sports. I love an open game like that great for the nuetral.

If anything the fact we get Chelsea twice, nullifies the prospect of one of us getting an advantage, full steam ahead with the league game and give it a go with the COC.

Performance of the season last night! haha, Rooney looked pretty impressive dropping deep and spraying the ball about. Energy in the midfield that is what you want!

Could maybe a midfield 3 of:

.........Carrick
...Fletcher....Rooney

actually work!?

I think that's too deep for Rooney IMO. Anderson and Cleverley along with Rooney IMO were the main reason for the performance, all good passers, with energy and all possess something a little different to one another which added a lot centrally.

Who do we play on the weekend? *goes to check*

Spurs at OT, not sure if we should drop/move Kagawa for Rooney or instead start Rooney wide. I think Anderson deserves a start also.

I suspect Anderson is still trying to gather his breath :P I do love it when he's in that kind of mood though, brings a completely different dynamic to the team, he or Cleverley should definitely start at the weekend - strike while the iron is hot.

no.

On paper the best team we could field would be:

----------Carrick--Fletcher-----------
----Valencia----Rooney-----Nani-------
-----------------RVP------------------

Or Kagawa in for Nani.

Bloody hell, that was a serious cut on Rooney:

He was excellent last night.

Squad tonight vs Newcastle U21s:

Johnstone, Gollini; Cole, Blackett, Thorpe, Fornasier, Tunnicliffe, Brady, King, Macheda, Petrucci, Lingard, Henriquez, Veseli, James, McGinty.

Henriquez to make his debut then? No Wooton or Keane, with Wooton definitely in the squad at the weekend

Excellent, some real talent in there. Excited to see Henriquez play, all I've seen since he signed is some of the France v Chile match, and he was so isolated he might as well not have been playing.

Where's Bebe gone?

I wish Arsenal had this .... Viera had free kicks at every ground!

It's obviously WWWAAAAYYY too early and a poor venue to showcase Henriquez's talents, but he does look rather tasty.

Came on for the last 20 and was really isolated up front, but still had time to beat 3 men and fire a shot into the keeper, have a header just saved and then score a header at the death.

Was half watching a little stream, but he looked very enthusiastic when he came on and showed some very good movement - like Chicharito.

& what a finish for the goal, stunning! :P

YouTube - Angelo Henriquez Manchester United U21 Debut

Macheda had a good game from what I saw too, linking up nicely with Petrucci. He should be cursing his loan spells away, because he shouldn't be playing for our U21s now, he's better than that.

Seeing the pattern in all our games.

No midfield pressure, leaving too big gaps between defense and mifield.

If we lose I won't whine. That's how it will be with our current team :/.

How can SAF not see this lineup doesn't work.

Spurs' midfield is fantastic so we start with Scholes and Giggs and play two in the middle, barely use Kagawa at all and play another winger who is woefully out of form.

Extreme negligence and stupidity. Just don't know what goes on inside SAF's head these days.

Our hard working mids. There is none of those anymore.

We brought back guys who should long ago stick their boots up. Giggs and Scholes are 38 and 37. Seriously... They won't last. You can see they are lacking steam. No movement like in the old days. Poorer decision making.

Crazy how Ferguson still relies on them and is scared to give young guns a go...

At least they would give their all and pressure opponents on ball.

Seriously, we leave so big gaps between defense and midfield that it's horrible to watch. -.-

Shame we missed Dembele. He looks class act :(.

United lose when play Giggs and Scholes shock.

It's almost like Ferguson doesn't even listen to trends, statistics or anything. Same thing with Park and Giggs last year - we lost virtually every game they both played, yet he insisted on playing them.

Anyway, good for Tottenham, took their chances well. We created a ton, which was nice, but just didn't get it going. RVP was pretty poor, should have at least tied it with one of his opportunities.

I'm trying not to watch Giggs this season. It's just ruining the past 20 years for me at this point.

Also, we lost having had 73% possession. That is mental.

Scholes is your best performer on a regular basis. He's the only CM you have who can dictate games

He passed the ball 148 times today - completed 135. Probably more than the entire Spurs team.

But.

He offers literally nothing defensively. So if we're going to play him, we have to surround him with energy.

I just don't get Ferguson anymore. It's so obvious what the problem is. But he keeps making the same mistakes, over and over and over again.
