Scholes is your best performer on a regular basis. He's the only CM you have who can dictate games

He is great player, but...

He jogs on the pitch, no running. He can't track back. He can't win the ball.

Same with Giggs.

If you want to play Scholes like beachryan said, surround him with someone who can win balls, has enough stamina to run whole game (again Dembele, Yaya, Diaby, Song come to mind).

Btw Rooney might be converted to Attacking Mid / Midfielder type of player. After today's game he starts to look more like Scholes with vision and passing. And we know how hard working Rooney is!

That's amazing - Spurs entire team completed 35 passes in the second half.

Scholes completed over 80.

Still, goals win games, as do tactics and not fielding Ryan f*cking Giggs.

Sorry, but we should have handily won that match, but for Fergie's very forgiveable sentiment.

Gary Neville had to retire to stop hurting the team, cause Fergie kept picking him. Keane more or less did the same. Will Giggs?

We need to do for Scholes what Juve is for Pirlo.. Sit him in the No.10 Role with two other CM's to do his running, at Juve they have Arturo Vidal (that boy doesn't get enough hype if I'm honest, brilliant player) I believe we could get Anderson to be out Vidal and then Cleverley to be like Marchisio, then we have the problem of where to put Carrick.

As for Giggs, he won't quit for the team, he'll quit for himself.

That loss was coming. Should have happened at Anfield but we got extremely lucky and could've possibly happened in other matches so far this season, especially Southampton or Galatasary.

Scholes was very good in the second half but the fact Spurs sat much deeper played into his hands. He and Carrick were bypassed far too easily in the first half.

Clearly either of Anderson or Cleverley need to be brought in, maybe even both or this cycle will repeat itself. The less said about Giggs, the better.

Yeah the positive I'll take though is

Nani--Rooney--Kagawa-
-------RVP----------

Will bring the best results in terms of quality and results IMO :... if it wasn't for RVP not having his shooting boots on we'd have won today and Kagawa was better from the left.

He jogs on the pitch, no running. He can't track back. He can't win the ball.

And yet he is still quality. Nothing wrong with jogging around the pitch. Headless chickens sprint around the pitch. The best players around glide about the pitch so don't get some peoples fascination with having to bomb about everywhere.

An image that will strike fear into all opponents!

Mikael "Tweety" Silvestre is training with us as he does not have a club right now. Wouldnt be surprised if Sir Alex signs him up on a short term contract with all the injuries we have in defence right now.

Yeah, Fergie was quick to categorically state he won't be playing ;)

Looking forward to the Cluj game. Should be very similar lineup to Newcastle, which if we're honest should be good enough.

Yeah if you had someone like Tiote or Arturo Vidal playing next to Scholes to combine their energy, stamina and work-rate with his vision and playmaking attributes, it would work very well. But you don't of course.

Random stat: Vida has the highest winning % (100+ starts) in CL history. Not bad that.

Very attacking lineup tonight, am excited! I think it's going to shape like this:

-------------de gea-----------
-Rafael-----Rio---Evans--Evra-
---------Fletcher-Clev--------
-------------Anderson---------
--------Rooney------RVP-------
------------Hernandez---------

I have one of those stupid mugs with Keep Calm i'm a Man Utd Fan on. (A gift) But I must say it's quite apt for us.

Oh, is Evra back in position yet? Please please please, just drop him, Buttner can not possibly do any worse. Hell even with Fabio at least if he made mistakes you could live in hope he'd improve with age. I hate criticising our players too harshly, but I've had enough with him now.

Yes, Evra has been abysmal since the World Cup fiasco. I seriously wonder how he's lost basic sense of positioning as a defender.

Off topic, Wilko, didn't that match just remind you of PES? Really eerily similar.

Just watched some of the first half again - Rooney absolutely ran the show. Great to see.

Chicarito needs to go back to being an impact sub. It's what he's good at. Looks lost out there, sadly.

Swap him out for Nani or Kagawa on the left and that is a mighty looking team.

---------Fletcher-Clev--------
-------------Anderson---------

That's a mid-table CM at best.

Well, we've won a title with O'Shea and Giggs in the centre, and came within injury time of catching the most expensive team on the planet last season with our star midfielder retired for half a season.

And I guess we'll find out, those are the players we have. Not every team can afford to buy 10 midfielders in a few seasons and offload the ones they don't need. Some teams have to build in a realistic way. Since we bought Anderson, City have purchased: Elano, Geovanni, De Jong, Milner, Barry, Toure, Nasri, Garcia and Rodwell for the centre of the park. Some teams have to stick with what they've got.

If you're going WUM-ing, hopefully you're prepared to take as well as you (try) to dish out.

You're not Sheffield Utd, quite clearly you don't have to stick with what you've got. You're not the only Utd fan to consistently moan at Fergie for ignoring the CM in favour of strengthening elsewhere.

It's interesting isn't it. You moan about your CM being subpar but when a City fan says it he's wum-ing (and apparently wum-ing poorly)

Never really seen Nasri play CM for us but then you missed off Gelson Fernandes so I'll let you off
