Manchester United Thread

Man Utd: Lindegaard, Da Silva, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Cleverley, Carrick, Welbeck, van Persie, Kagawa.

Subs: De Gea, Evans, Giggs, Hernandez, Nani, Scholes, Powell.

Rafael marking Lambert? For real? He almost got annihilated when goal was scored LOL.

What the hell is Welbeck doing in starting 11 :(. He loses the ball almost ALL the time :/.

Terrible 1st touch so far.

We have given initiative away far too cheaply.

Hopefully we will turn tables around. COME ON UNITED!!! Make that 1000th game for Ferguson worthwhile!!!!!!!!

And that was rather fast response with great volley.

Van Persie starts to win me over <3

1-1 :D

COME ON!!

Yes RVP! I'm still not convinced though -.-

Welbeck had no concept of playing left wing, terrible play so far.

Lambert goal was good. though, De Gea would've saved it ;)

Doubt that De Gea would save it. It was almost point blank range. Unless De Gea has unbelievable reflexes haha :D.

Valencia is our best winger. No doubts here.

We need similar guy on the other flank though :/.

He does have unbelievable reflexes! Just not super human.. ;)

Valencia is brilliant so far, Kagawa also looks good and RvP has shown great movement up front.
Nani down the left would work today, Clyne looks clueless so far.

Rafael looks strong, minus the goal and one pathetic flick which would have worked for Brazil, looks like he will be have an excellent season.

Welbeck has done nothing back get in people's way!

Indeed.

However, in greater picture: we pass the ball back to our defenders too much, losing it under pressure. We lack movement up front.

We should pass faster. We can play some small-passing movement game imo.

But at the moment, hate to say that, we look bland vs Southampton. Lallana is amazing!

Evra. No place for him in the team.

He has been getting progressively worse for past 3 seasons!!!!

The guy played also the most matches in United t-shirt for past years. This lad needs to take a well deserved rest.

We will lose this now. Van Persie missed penalty. Kagawa off. Our gameplay looks horrid at times. Not champions like at all!

Ferguson 1000th managerial game looks v. bad. :(

WOW, finally! FINALLY! I missed this kind of come backs last season! It's a feeling that every United fan should know.

P.S. That shouldn't mask our bad performance for the majority of the game, though.

wow, very entertaining game. was no waste of time for me. f'n van persie was phenomenal, made me eat my words about him.

oh and kudos to southampton fans. they were a big force for saints throughout the game.

brilliant finish...Van Persie's 100th league goal for Fergie's 1000th game. Our midfield play was really poor though, and Welbeck can not play on the left...but Rooney will be playing there when he's back, thats for sure.

i thought we were very lucky to walk away with a point, never mind three, we rarely held on to the ball and we tried to force the issue a bit to much, disappointed to see the manor in which van persie hit the penalty when we needed it. overall happy with the three but if we don't improve on performances soon, it's going to be a below standard season it's fair to say.

Dreadful performance, was genuinely angry with the team today as I wasn't convinced they work working as hard as Southampton, rather they were expecting their talent to carry them through. Not singling anyone out for criticism because as far as I'm concerned the team as a whole underperformed.

Trying to remain positive, I'll say we've yet to have a steady back four and now we're swapping goalkeepers, that is never a good position to be in, so hopefully Vidic and Rio can get a run of games together. Perhaps then when Smalling, Jones and Evans are fully fit we can use them as full-backs to give us some extra height and strength when required, so teams such as Soton and Everton don't lean on our full backs.

Glad RVP is having an immediate impact, there's always a risk of a Torres-esque saga with a big transfer like this, but 4 goals in 2 starts is quite the opposite. Impressed with his initiative in taking the game to Southampton as well, it's always good to have characters who are capable of doing that.

Scholes was impressive coming off the bench, I suspect this might be his role this season, coming on when the other team is tiring and unable to press him as much as they would from the start, allowing him to play his game, which is a sight to behold as ever. A word for Chicharito too, who did well in stretching the game and I'm happy to see that after the recent (unfounded) speculation on his future.

Overall, work to be done, but a slow start to the season is not unusual for us, even if some of our flaws feel all too familiar from last season.

Robins got this:COOL:

Well, what a last 10 minutes. It was just 10 days ago I did some research and posted that we didn't manage to come from behind in a single match last year - twice in two games! Mental.

I don't think we're very hard to play against anymore. I'm not sure who is to blame, but once again I find myself wondering what's going on behind the scenes. Our 'strategy' and 'tacitcal approach' appears to be:

1. Never try and tackle the opposition. Stand up to them, plug the gaps and invite them on.
2. Stop counter-attacking. Why bother? It's so hard to run all that way. Let's slow things down. Get everything set up. Then, the front 4 players will walk at most 3 paces in any direction, and wave their hands at the midfielders.
3. If a team has a large, aerial tactic, don't address it. Just let the game happen, I'm sure it'll be fine. Actually, get the tiny lil RB to deal with it.

We seem to be winning these games in spite of our tactics (Welbeck was playing where exactly?). The only thing Fergie got spot on today were the substitutions - I mean who'd of thunk that putting a winger out on the wing would open up the field, stretch their defence and enable us to get some crosses in? Miraculous.

And dropping De Gea because he got fouled last week AND THEN TELLING THE PRESS YOU DROPPED HIM? For f*ck sakes Fergie, way to put the old arm round the shoulder.

I'm finding very little joy so far this season. Results are obviously fine, but man, there's so little dynamism in a lot of play. I was so annoyed by the 85th minute I find it hard to excited about the last 6. The players barely move out there!

Honestly, you lot sound so spoiled its quite annoying, I wonder when we do go through hard times how depressing it will be to read all the comments.

take a step back, Look at Liverpool FC, and then look at us.
