Manchester United Thread

Doesn't matter what we think we're not the one's on the field.

Unfortunately last season the players were expecting an easy ride, I doubt they'll make that mistake again.

Hm do we have quality to replace Kagawa if he gets injured? We have seen what happened when Kagawa left field vs Fulham. Our game has become dire.

Not being pessimistic here, just saying we need one or two more signings to be prepared for any occasion which may occur throughout the season.

Berbatov joined Fulham I hear. Glad for him :).

Really pleased the Berb is finally going to be playing again. Travesty to football the way that Fergie treated him. Knocked Fergie down a bit in my estimations as a person that.

As for the summer's business - I'm not really that happy despite adding some real talent. The most important signing was probably Buttner in terms of what we need, and we STILL haven't bought a f*cking midfielder. It's like Fergie is just being a dick about it now.

Would Javi Garcia improve us? Joao Moutinho? De Jong ffs? Yes, they all would.

But fear not United fans, word on the street is that Darren Fletcher is being registered for Europe. Cause he's a reliable option to build a team around.

Ferguson being a 'dick' after spending 30 million plus on new players yet again.

You are what give man Utd fans bad name...spoilt.

But you probably not local Manchester person to use phrases like 'dick'. That are you just young.

Have respect.

Not sure how fans can be unhappy but im sure if we signed Messi we'd still have fans screaming for a midfielder.

I do think we could maybe do with one but after seeing more and more of Cleverley, that boy is first team material IMO, Carrick next to him makes for a good enough two man midfield, could it be better? probably but then you can't have it all.

The two other ends of the field im very happy with it, in terms of quality and cover. someone mentioning do we have cover for Kagawa, we just signed him?! and we already need cover? That Scouse lad whose a bit tubby will do I guess also that Welsh OAP.

We need a midfielder who can do it on a saturday afternoon down stoke, Kagawa is quick and so so so good, but will he shy away after being kicked?
Carrick and Cleverley, we could still do with one more player though!

I'm hardly young, that's just a turn of phrase.

And, from where I sit (and most commentators, pundits, fans and so forth) I'd of preferred Moutinho or Martinez over RvP.

Our attack was fantastic last season, and if we can ever keep our defenders fit we have a superb set. However, the bit connecting the two is not at the same level, hasn't been for 5 seasons, and Fergie refuses to address the issue. I don't know why. No one does.

But, sadly, Anderson is not the answer. Of that we can be sure.

And what if Cleverley gets injured? What if our defenders get injured once more? What if Kagawa gets injured?

Do we have backup plan? No. Just like last season.

We concentrated on offense and that is last formation we needed improvement in!!

Hopefully though, some youngsters get played from U21 team.

We spent 30mln, Tottenham at the moment re-invested only what they got from Modric transfer. Demebele and Moutinho are ace signings in my book. Plus they got Adebayor. If they snap up Lloris and Damiao, then I can even see them challenging for title next season.

Do you think teams around United are stagnant? No. Chelsea makes their team younger (Oscar, Marin, Hazard, Moses, that Azpi defender, etc.), Liverpool got rid of bad players and brought in players fitting Rodgers vision, Arsenal if they hit form will be tough team. Last year, we had luck and bad form of other teams around us. This year, such situation may not happen.

And must I remind you we already lost valuable points vs Everton? We almost fumbled it against Fulham?

Being obsessed with one team and not seeing it's problems is what UK people do. Most of the time.

But there are people from outside England who see the problems at hand clearly.

We can have one of best seasons in EPL yet at hand. If we finish 3rd I won't cry either (this will be harsh wake up call though).

Thank god that's over, no more moaning about needing a creative m... No sorry we signed Kagawa, no more moaning about signing a holding midfielder, till january at least.

Bring on Sunday.

I'm sorry but we've had to play Carrick and Valencia in defence because we didn't have enough cover.

Our defensive options are nowhere near good enough if you consider the job our fitness team does.

So the answer is sign another 10 defenders, no that's not how it works. are cover and numbers are fine.

Rafael/Jones/Valencia, Vidic/Ferdinand/Evans/Smalling/Jones, Evra/Buttner

I just think we've been unlucky but I don't mind questioning the fitness team though, by all means.

u think Kagawa could make the difference? whole Manchester is on his shoulders

Wait what? Are you mistaking Kagawa for Carrick? Kagawa is an important part I guess but we have other options who aren't bad in his role like Rooney and Giggs.

Yep, happy with the Muppet season being over, bring on Southampton!:))

I don't actually think he's as important as people make out. He's looked fabulous both for Dortmund and so far for us, but it's not like this is a team that has issues scoring goals. We scored a ton last season.

If he's a bit off form, we can always move Rooney back, move Cleverley forward, shift to a 442 and use Nani/Valencia/Young out wide with RVP/Welbeck/Chica/Rooney in the middle.

We are ridiculously well stocked up front.

At the back if these players ever show they can manage half a season without injury we'll be fine. But Smalling has been a perma sick note in the past 12 months, Jones hasn't been much better and Evans almost always misses a chunk. So we're relying on a player returning from a cruciate injury and Rio Ferdinand. Dodgy.

A few days late, but entertaining still.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has banned the club's young stars from driving flashy sports cars from new sponsors Chevrolet.

United recently signed a multi-million-pound deal with the American car giant, who will become the name on the club's shirts from the start of the 2014-15 season.

As a gesture of goodwill, Chevrolet immediately offered United's first-team stars a choice of luxury cars and understandably many of the club's big names plumped for iconic Corvettes.

However, Sportsmail understands Ferguson immediately intervened and decreed that no player under the age of 23 - no matter their standing in the team - should be allowed to order a sporty model.

This means players such as young striker Danny Welbeck, 21, and defenders Phil Jones, 20, Chris Smalling, 22, and Rafael, 22, will be banned from driving anything not approved by Ferguson.

The move is a classic case of Ferguson - the master man-manager - ensuring his young stars don't get too big for their boots.

Ferguson has always been hot on matters such as this.

Two years ago, for example, it emerged he told players in the club's youth squads they were not allowed to wear coloured football boots.

Last night a United spokesperson confirmed: 'As with most automotive partnerships, Chevrolet will be offering players a car. The model will be dependent on their time at the club and driving experience.'

My God, Berbatov is hungry to play football!

Looks so classy in Fulham :O.

It has been a crime how little football fans have seen of Berbs the past few seasons. He looks utterly class at Fulham - as he always does. I'll never get Fergie's issue with him.

To be honest, each year Fergie becomes less and less admirable in some ways. Especially with his latest round of journalist bannings.

I'm gonna say something super controversial, but it's my honest opinion: IF United can get Jose Mourinho (and his key team) to leave Real Madrid in a year or two, I think that United might actually be in a better position with him then they currently are with Fergie and Mike Phelan.

You'll never get Fergie's issue with him but none of us have any idea what goes on behind the scenes. It's entirely possible Berba's attitude dropped considerably and as we all know, SAF doesn't tolerate shitty attitudes.

We should never have signed Dimi in all honesty. Fantastic player though he is, he never fit our style of play and ruined the fluidity of the 07/08 team. Tevez should've been signed that season and we should've just kept things the way they were. Our forward line was the best in Europe at the time and we broke it up even before Ronaldo left.

Yep, agree with that. Then again, we did TRY to sign Tevez, but Fergie's negotiating tactic was an utter failure.

Anyway, tomorrow should be a good match. S'Hampton tend to play fairly open from what I've seen of them so far, and we've had another week to get RVP to start working in the system.

Also, looks like Johnny Evans is back, so we might actually have all defenders playing in defence. I'm thinking it'll be:

---------------De Gea-------------
--Rafael----Vidic---Evans---Evra--
---------Carrick---Cleverley------
---------------Kagawa-------------
---Valencia---------------Nani----
----------------RVP---------------

T'aint much wrong with that.

Nah, he has mellowed since the late 90's. He was a right ungracious horrible c*** back then.

I also think Berbatov was given ample chances at Utd. He was far too hot and cold. He's not reliable imo for a top side like Utd. He's a top 4-6 player in my view. He's a classy player, abit like Cantona in that respect, but he lacks the consistency, heart and fight of Cantona

Enjoy the game today, our next game won't be till the 15th against Wigan.

God darn international breaks!

Any news on De Gea? The teams popped up at the end of Arsenal v Liverpool, Lindegaard is starting.. Dissapointing if he's been dropped, been our best player (on par with Kagawa) do far this year and pre-season, I know it's premature after two competitive games.
