Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Chelsea have already tried to tap up Rio AND Mikel after the Cole incident so why is it a suspended deduction?

Fergie tries to see Mikel
Tuesday, June 14, 2005

from Guardian

'Sir Alex Ferguson has been on a secret mission to persuade the Nigerian teenager John Obi Mikel not to dump Manchester United in favour of Chelsea.
Mikel is already the subject of a Fifa inquiry because of the tug-of-war between England's two most powerful clubs, but Ferguson wanted to investigate for himself claims that the midfielder had turned his back on Old Trafford because he had been "intimidated and coerced into acting against his wishes".

Ferguson was even willing to break off from his holiday in the south of France to arrange a trip to Emmen in the Netherlands so he and Jim Ryan, United's youth academy director, could speak to Mikel after he had played for Nigeria against Brazil in the World Youth Championships. They deliberately did not inform the 18-year-old for fear of alerting Chelsea, whose conduct they have reported to the authorities. Ferguson's assistant Carlos Queiroz has accused the London club of "taking football into the jungle", adding that Mikel was "almost kidnapped".
Whether Ferguson managed to speak to his target is not entirely clear, having effectively planned to arrive unannounced outside the Nigerian team's dressing room at the Emmen stadium. What is apparent, however, is that the United manager is not willing to let Mikel go to Stamford Bridge without a fight. He believes the teenager is one of the most naturally gifted players he has seen and he has been heartened by suggestions that Mikel still wants to play at Old Trafford.

Those claims were made in a letter from Mikel's agent Daniel Fletcher to the Premier League and the Football Association. Despite holding the player's registration, Fletcher has not been able to get hold of him for nearly a year and after conducting his own inquiries he has asked the authorities to launch an official investigation.

"My information is that the player still expresses a firm desire to join Manchester United," his letter says. "It is clear that the player is seemingly being intimidated and coerced into acting against his wishes."

United also believe that to be the case. When they announced Mikel's signing in April he spoke openly about how happy he was to "join such a great club". But within days he had received death threats and his Norwegian club, Lyn of Oslo, were so concerned for his safety they contacted the police and assigned him a bodyguard. To Ferguson's bewilderment, Mikel subsequently turned up in London with a Nigerian agent, John Shittu, and declared that he wanted to join Chelsea and that he had been unfairly pressured into signing a contract with United.'

Essien wants to move to England but feels transfer fee will put off most clubs.

RE: MUFC -> Essien's agent - "At Manchester I had discussions with their coach two months ago but after that there has been no news."

HERE

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

That news is 2 months old just like how the quote says.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Sorry, just thought the story might interest some.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Nothing to be sorry about. :)

But I wont be surprised if we suddenly turned up with a big deal for Lyon that they cant refuse.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

We might as well support him. Thats the only way we can hope Man Utd succeed.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Sorry :D

Gennaro Gattuso will stay with Milan after the club told Manchester United that he was not for sale.

The Premiership giants were linked with a swoop recently and the player’s agent has confirmed that they made an enquiry.

"If I have to be honest, Manchester United did make contact a few days ago but it all ended pretty quickly," Claudio Pasqualin told La Citta' del Goal on SpqRadio.

"Milan don’t even want to consider the sale of the midfielder. He is untransferable for the club."

Gattuso has developed into a key figure at the San Siro and the outfit do think very highly of him.

"(Milan chief) Adriano Galliani sees him as the future captain of the side when Paolo Maldini finally retires," added Pasqualin.

The former Rangers player has been watched by some time by Manchester United, who are looking for Roy Keane’s heir.

Meanwhile, Pasqualin also warned Lazio to make a move for Cesare Natali or miss out on the Atalanta stopper.

"I’ve heard of their interest but there is nothing official," he added. "However, I have to say that Genoa like him too."

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Not unless Lyon knew about the discussion between Essien and Man Utd.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

According to Sky sports on tv, Owen would only leave Real to Chelsea since theyve apparently made the biggest bid.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Who said that? Owen or Real Madrid?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Even with our so called transfer kitty bag of 20-25mill...dont you people think we are a little to quiet on the transfer market? So far,the only realistic deals goin our way is Park Ji Sung's.Soccernet reported that Chelski and ourselves are in a locked battle to sign Sam Etoo...What were our main targets initially? A keeper,we got that,a sided midfielder,we gonna get that soon...a player to replace Keano(why werent we interest in Scott Parker?) and a striker rite? Two more players would fill the quota I guess.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

I cant believe youve let parker slip to Newcastle and for 6.5m would of been a great buy!

Brilliant buy is what it would have been especially with the aging Roy Keane.

They bought Liam Miller to replace him didnt they? Have seen no sign of him.
Parker is class, well he was for Charlton at least.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Miller was just born in the same place as Keano so they started calling him the next Roy Keane. Its dumb really.

And the thing about Parker is that wouldnt it be hard for us to buy him cuz were a rival?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Yeah thats very true, i would have rather seen Parker loaned out instead of sold though, Makelele will be gone by next season and he would have been the perfect replacement.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

I feel sorry for Parker cuz I dont really like the way he was treated at Chelsea.
The guy clearly has a lot of talent but Chelsea choose to play players like Jarosik and Tiago just because of their connection with the people in charge of Chelsea.

parker does not have the talent for MANU, he couldnt even break the lineup for chelsea... lets be realistic boys...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Park Ji Sung is as good as ours as the player himself told PSV that he wanna join us thru manutd.com.Meanwhile other news,we still seem in the lead to sign Mickey Owen and Cris Ronaldo has end speculation by wanting to sign a new,5 year deal.New scout in the set up it seems,Sir Alex Ferguson has hired Rodger De Sa as the club's scouting supremo. De Sa, currently coach of South African club Wits University, is a former colleague of assistant boss Carlos Queiroz. The ex-goalkeeping coach, who comes from Mozambique, will run the club's global scouting system.

He definitely does! Have you even seen him play?
Watch him the season that Chelsea signe him in January, he played a brilliant half season with Charlton, best taclker in the premiership IMO, better than Gerrard at tackling even!

He could not play at Chelsea due to matatersal problems.

Also, who could break into a midfield of Makelele and Lampard? Hes a centremidfielder make shift right mid, thats the only place Chelsea had space to play him with the 4-3-3 we use.

Parker is brilliant and United sure missed out, it may be due to the selling to rivals but my oh my what a good replacement for keano that would be. Same for Van Bommel but he's already signed with Barcelona.

I agree with you. He was a good player but the lack of games might have changed him.

:) and Miller and Kleberson do Saunders?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Thats not a fair comment, CSaunders. Cuz we had players like Alan Smith sitting on our bench for most parts of the season and you cant say he doesnt have talent. The same goes for Fletcher near the start of the season.

As for Miller and Kleberson, they'll definately be sold now that Glazer is insisting on cutting down the squad size and wage bill.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

I want to go back to United
Diego Forlan aims to go back to Manchester United to show the fans what they missed. United must pray the rejected striker doesn't get the chance next season with Villareal. Forlan said: "If Manchester United could play at the El Madrigal it would be fantastic." And the man who managed only nine Premiership goals insisted: "I know I'm going to play in England again one day - and I would like it to be with United."
Bill Thornton, Daily Star
COME BACK DIEGO. WE'RE SORRY AND WE NEED YOU! :D

United's Jenas bid
Alex Ferguson is ready to make a £7million move for Jermaine Jenas. The Newcastle midfielder was angered by the arrival of Scott Parker this week. And that alerted Manchester United boss Fergie, who has been an admirer of the England star since Jenas, 22, broke into the Nottingham Forest first team aged 17. Ferguson reckons Jenas fits the bill for the new team he is building at Old Trafford - although his priority remains a striker like Real Madrid's Michael Owen.
Neil Custis, The Sun
Do we need Jenas? I'm more concerned over the possibility of us making a move for Owen.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Owen is unnecessary, don't know why fergie wants him. Does he loves Keane so much that he his afraid to spend serious money on a DMF or CMF. I know what he means to Man but age doesn't forgive. That section of the midfield is Man Utd main problem.
