Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

The first 4-3-3 is the same as the 4-2-2 diamond. It's simply the fact that the OMF is closer to the strikers. It's just a question of coach instructions, giving the player offensive freedom, or to be more carefull with the back.

At first glance the 442 diamond is the best formation for the team. The 3 front players are ok, but lets look at the midfield. We all know Ronaldo is not efficient at defendid so the side he plays will be more open to attack, he is a player that needs freedom. In the national side he gets that freedom and he plays great, scoring and creating chances.
I don't know about Park if he defends any good. Don't know him enough.
Giggs plays alot for the team, he already is a very experienced player.
So my point is that with this formation and those players you get quite an attack force, but on the other hand you might lose defensive consistency.

By playing in this manner, and if Owen do comes to Man Utdm i'm expecting a good start from the team, but the real test will come around February to see of the team can hold it's consistency in the midfield.

Just my view of the team.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

What you're failing to remember is that we already went through last season with the same formation so if we were to replace one of our strikers like Saha with Owen, how will that change the way we play?
We will be just as consistant as we always have been. We have the second best defensive record in the country after Chelsea.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

How Alex lost out in Africa
Michael Essien, the most sought after player in football, has revealed how Manchester United turned down the chance to sign him - for NOTHING. Lyon midfielder Essien, 22, now rated in the £20m bracket and a target for Chelsea, had a week-long trial at Old Trafford and held talks with Sir Alex Ferguson. But, incredibly, Essien turned down the chance to join United - because Ferguson dropped a clanger by telling him he would immediately be loaned out to Antwerp. Ghana-born Essien snubbed Fergie and joined French minnows Bastia - and has gone on to become one of the best midfielders in the world, with Arsenal and Real Madrid also interested in him. Essien's chance to join United came five years ago when he was just 17. Chelsea have already had a £10m bid turned down. Lyon say they won't sell for less than £20m.

Dont you just hate it when you read stuff like this. It happened with Zinedine Zidane in the past too.

That's why I say the money is better spent elsewhere. And Man played alot of times in 4-5-1 last season.

What I mean is that Saha fits into our team so Owen will too. But the difference is that Owen is a far better player than Saha so Owen can be a very good signing for us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

What if Owen becomes the shitty mediocre player he was at Liverpool in the last 2 years before moving to Real?

If everyone looked at it that way, no one would ever buy players. Owen has played well for Real and thats a good enough reason.

What was Gilardino like about 3 years ago?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Heard on Sky Sports news that Figo is most likely going to Newcastle...they're going to be a serious threat to the top 4 next season (and by that I mean liverpool, not everton, i do hope the toffees repeat, but kind of doubt it). Also means we missed out, I think C. Ronaldo would have LOVED to play with him, even just to have him around. Would have been nice, but I suppose he's in the same bag as giggs, so not really worth it.

But Saha didnt really fit into the team though! he was back up! which Owen will not be!

All this is Pie in the sky anyway cmon the original story came from the N.O.W the same paper that last week said Newcastle had put in Bellamy, Robert and 6m for SWP yet the next day Robert went to Portsmouth! its all speculation! You need to replace Keane that should be man Yoos priority without any doubt!

The news about Owen has come from about 4 different newspapers so there must be some truth in it even if the deal doesnt eventually happen.
You're right that Saha is a backup but if you looks at the amount of games Rudd missed where we had to play Smith or Saha, that could have been Owen playing instead of those two and might have scored a lot more goals then.
Plus Ruud isnt at his best right now so the only striker thats got a guaranteed place in the team is Rooney who actually plays on the wing most of the time.
The general opinion from Man Utd fans (I hear this on MUTV where people call in to say this) is that Ruud shouldnt even have played the games that he did cuz he was poor like the games against Milan.
So if Owen was to come to OT, he has as much of a chance in the team as Ruud.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Figo to newcastle is bollocks. His salary demands are to high. I don't think Newcastle can aford around 5-6m€ per year for one player. I think Figo should accept a reduction of his salary, go play in england till 2006 and then retire. But money talks has we all know, no matter the player!
But I heard Valencia is more likely.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Something people are forgeting about Real Madrid is that they are bound to sign Robinho so Owen is gonna become 4th choice very soon.
Atleast at Man Utd, there a good chance he'll be in the starting XI.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

You heard it from me first.Park Ji-Sung is ours,he will be the first ever South Korean to play for us and in the premiership. He has reportedly signed a 4 year contract starting from the 1st of July 2005 till 2009.He is currently in South Korea on holiday and will fly into Manchester tonite to complete a medical and the other formalities.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Why does Figo demand so much, at his age he should take the first offer he gets, does he really need money?..I doubt it very much.

I wonder what this Park Ji Sung will be like in England, cant wait to see him and Der Saar in action.

Where did you read that?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Its all over the place this morning from what ive read he will complete his medical today! the fee is suposed to be around 4m! Bargain!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

3.9 Million pounds,6 Million Euros. Not quite the high price I was expecting but hell yeah hes ours for 4 years. What number do you think he will take? I'd like him to take the number 3 shirt but its belongs to Phil Nev....19 is available too.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

3 is more of a defenders number. Who has 20? Ole is it? I think that would be better on him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I'm really pleased about Park. He seems like a good fit for United, more like the signings of old: dependable, high energy, enthusiastic, hard working and not a huge ego-filled superstar. Hopefully SAF and co will mold him as they have so many others into one of the best. Like the Smith signing, I don't think he's the finished product yet, which is exciting.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

It's almost certain Park will take number 21, which is accidentally the number he wore when he scored the winning goal against Portugal in WC2002.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I'm just happy to see him sign for us.

If the Obi Mikel saga is complete and he would be our player,he will take the 21 jersey, remember him holding it up on the news? I prefer he phuckoff to chelski thou..... The only current free numbers are 13,19,21,32 and 35. I think VanDerSar should take no 1 now and Howard back to 13.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Trust me. We dont want to lose out on John Obi Mikel. He's a great player with a lot of potential. Losing him would be a bigger loss than losing Robben.
The word around London and Chelsea is that they're gonna take this case as far as it goes cuz they too know that he's such a brilliant player.

What I hear is that before we signed Mikel, Chelsea did a deal with John Obi and agreed a deal where they even paid the player and the agent the signing on fee but paid NOTHING to Lyn Oslo so technically the deal was with the player and not the team (tapping up?). Then Mikel signed for Man Utd which was all done officially and Man Utd have made clear that the deal was done under FIFA rules meaning the player is ours. But Mikel and his agent still have the money that Chelsea personally paid them so they feel they have the right to the player which IMO isnt fair. So the reason why Mikel wants to join Chelsea is because he has recieved money from them which can considered a bribe. SO unless we start waving money at Mikel, he probably wont stay with us.
Some people on MUTV suggested at if Chelsea want him so bad, they should buy him off us cuz we legally own him.

But I'll say it again. He is one player that we dont want to lose out on.
