Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

I think Fletcher could develope into a good DM.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

We should also try to hijack De Rossi.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Fletcher cant tackle good enough! u guys heard of Parker!

Maybe, but ManUtd needs one now!
I already said a million times that Man's problem is the center of the field!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Haha..Fletcher cant tackle for shite....if you people are talking about one player thats capable of becoming a good defensive midfielder,Alan Smith is the man for you.Has the right mentality and robustness..all he needs to do is learn more about the responsibilites of the role itself.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

RVN has been mentioned to be a potential Milan target if Gilardino doesnt join, but that is highly unlikely.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

One thing that I'm happy about is that Sir Alex and Glazer are on the same page so that can only be good for the buying power of the club.
We have to remember that the debts are only temporary so once we pay those off in say the next 5 years, we'll probably be able to throw money around again.
For the time being, the £25million a season from Glazer is enough too.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

why do we have to get rid of Ronaldo, if the rumours of us gettin Owen are true, can we not get rid of crappy Saha instead

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

I'm sure that if we get Owen and have to get rid of another striker, it will definately be Saha. He's not as big of a fan favourite as Smith, Rooney or Ruud.
Plus the other three have more to offer to the team than Saha. And if we had Owen, I dont see how anyone would want Saha anyway.

Saha's biggest strength is that he has the biggest jump compared to our other strikers so he could get in headers a lot easier.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

with owen.. we'll still have four strikers (AFTER getting rid of saha!). i dont see smith agreeing to mold into a DM... that just won't be right. he's tough and can tackle but he just doesnt seem to be able to dominate as keano has. with the arrival of owen, we will definitely not be able to use ronaldo as that supporting attacker that he is sooo good at (with portugal)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Whenever Smith plays in midfield, he actually plays on the right hand side and not in the center. Similar to where Fletcher plays. I dont really see Smith as a DM cuz he doesnt have the ability to play there. He's just another alternative for Fletcher.
If Saha left and Smith in midfield, I'm sure Owen would be comfortable in our team cuz its not like We wont have any injuries so Owen would get more games with us than that Madrid. Plus I see Rooney becoming the long term replacement for Scholes so really, we only left with 2 strikers, Ruud and Owen.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

but fletcher played more matches in the middle this year than on the wing... am i not right? he was usually on when ronaldo was around no? that means we'll be left with lots of midfielders and not attackers! if rooney is to replace scholes, and scholes is still around, we'll then have
rooney
scholes
keano
ronaldo
giggs
fletcher
smith
solskjaer
miller
kleberson

... if what you're saying is correct

hm, i dont know about that

You are partly right Rune..but do u remember where Roy Keane used to play when he first puts on our kit? He was a right sided midfielder ! He was never a central defensive midfielder by default,he learnt that role.I'm merely saying that Alan Smith has time to learn that role just as Keano did.And when he does...myyy,I wont be surprised if he would be overlooked as a striker.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

I personally don't believe all the speculation concerning Owen, I think he'll still be in Madrid next season.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

When you first bought Keane he was a attacking midfieler like Scholes and played alongside Ince in that role he used to score a fair few when he played for Forrest from there. i just dont think Smith has the technique or good enough passing to play in a DM role.

You have to take Keano, Scholes and Giggs out of that list cuz we're talking about REPLACEMENTS so when I say Smith and Rooney should move into midfield, that it supposed to happen when the older players leave.
I'm guessing that next season will be Solskjaer's last one with us and Miller will probably be sold cuz he's useless (He never gets a game).

So that leaves:
rooney
ronaldo
fletcher
smith
kleberson
Park (If we get him)

List doesnt look that big now, does it?

I have my doubts about him in that position aswell, for pretty much the same reasons, Keano has been at the top of the opta passing stats for a good few years and Smith doesnt have that in his game.

Also Fergie doesnt have a good record of changing players positions and still get the best out of them, it took Scholsey two seasons to get used to having a more forward role, Ole did okay at RMF and even kept Beckham out of the team.

Other than that its not Fergies strong point...

hm it sure looks less crowded now...

but i'm thinking next year, our starting XI will still include keane scholes and giggs? they haven't actually hung up their boots yet, so at least next season we will still be in need of their services

Yeah. I see what you mean. But I'm expecting Rooney and Smith to take their time when moving into midfield. Surely it wont happen in one season. So by the time Keano, Giggs and Scholes have left, Rooney, Smith, etc should have developed to ability to play in those positions without any problems.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

aaah i see how you mean now. yea then you're perfectly right... maybe during next season's fixture against sunderland or wigan we can tamper with the formation a little bit and allow rooney and smith to get a taste of life in the midfield

i really hope park signs on with us... that could be a major turning point

I see the same views as you. Only speculation i heard on him moving to the EPL were minimal, and the last I heard he was settled as he scored more goals in less games than Raul, and starting lots of the 2nd half of the season.

I bet he's like Bex, wont move, but lots of media hype because theyre the only 2 big english players playing abroad.

As anyone seen on getty images of the John Obi Mikel contract, signed and everything!
I saw it all on MUTV but Chelsea convinced John Obi Mikel to publically say he was pressured into signing that contract.

Mikel, who signed for Manchester United, has claimed he was pressurised into agreeing a deal with Manchester United and did not sign a contract of his own free will. Mikel has been rumoured to be in talks with Chelsea.

Money talking. Chelsea simply came waving money and the guy got greedy! I hope he gets banned from playing in the EPL for a couple of years!

Reminds of Figo when he signed 2 contracs in Italy! Juve and Parma if not mistaken!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

yea the part that stands out is obviously "claimed he was pressurised into agreeing a deal with Manchester United and did not sign a contract of his own free will"

unbelievable

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

I read in a few newspapers that (according to Mikel's close friends) he still wants to join Man Utd but Chelsea are pressuring him and his family.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

I think Chelsea will end up getting caught again and will probably have the 3 point deduction enforced. I however think that atransfer ban or a larger point deduction will only make them sit and notice. If they had to go a summer without being able to buy players that would have an effect.
