Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

that means one of the better players will not be a starter...i mean Kuyt, Jovanovic or Aquilani will have to get used to start less games as starters...with Gerrard fit - that is 100% starting, the same Torres.. also with DM that we dont have if Mascherano goes...

but if Mascherano stays (the optimism) ...something like this (without or wih the mentioned players would be great)

------------- Reina ----------------

Johnson -- Carra -- Agger --- NEW LB

------------ Mascherano ------------

------- Gerrard --- Aquilani -------

--------------- Cole ---------------

-------- Kuyt --- Torres/Jovanovic --

Re: Liverpool Thread

No way Jovanovic or Kuyt are playing ahead of Aquilani mate. Joe Cole is clearly going to be a winger.

as i said, i think Aquilani is top player, but in this way he could not play over Gerrard, giving the fact mentioned that Cole would prefeur AM position...or more centered role..

Then Aquilani can not play on wings.. that is why Kuyt and Jovanovic in there...

i think the same, that Cole needs to play on wings if we think about Aquilani and Gerrard in midfield BUT with the DM behind them...

this way we play something like Serbia style..

------------- Reina ----------------

Johnson -- Carra -- Agger --- NEW LB

--------- Mascherano/NEW DM --------

------- Gerrard --- Aquilani -------

Cole --------------------- Jovanovic

----------- Torres/Kuyt ------------

I think we all have seen the video in which Roy Hodgson talks about tactics and he explains why he prefers a 4-4-2 with two wingers, a defensive midfielder and a playmaker. If we suppose that he is going to play that way, then I think he should play like this:

------------- Reina ----------------

Johnson -- Carra -- Agger --- NEW LB

------- Mascherano--- Aquilani -------

Gerrard -------------------------Cole

----------Torres------Remy/Jovanovic------------

Didnt Gerrard have an outstading season when he played on the right ? If I remember corretly it was, in goals, his best season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Roy has said Degen can go! :BOP:

Bloody hell, I might actually start to feel happy about Liverpool for the first time in a long time if this carries on! ;)

“What will lift the supporters is if we get new investment,” said Hodgson. “I know supporters are very anxious for that. We can’t ever deny it. All the time we are in our current situation in terms of investment, the supporters are going to be sceptical.

“You can talk until you are blue in the face but it won’t make any difference. The owners are not popular with the fans; the fans want new owners, they want new investment. The gloom, if there is any, is never really going to lift until that day comes.

“We may have to work for a little bit longer in this situation but I am hoping that the quality of the performances we are going to give with the team we put out will cheer our supporters. We want to show them our club is very much alive and kicking and who knows?

“In the future with new investment and a chance to really compete on that front, we’ll be back in our traditional place. In the meantime, I can only hope that our supporters have got their feet on the ground and the heads around the situation, as I and the players have.

“We can’t turn back the clock and we can’t magic up a different situation. We work and live in the situation we are in. We will work very hard in that situation. Now let’s hope things will change even more for the better in the future.

“In the meantime, we will use what resources we have got and do the best job we can. Knowing Liverpool supporters through the years, the large percentage of them will appreciate that and give us credit.”

Good to see Roy acknowledging the muppet owners and the need for them to go as well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Who is that LB guy everyone make him a starter?

Seriously is good to see quality players on the bench now, let them sit there and be squad players, not everyone of them are known for they fitness so rotation will be necessary.
Still no cover for Torres, I remember Remy not being such a striker, more like a supporting one, but he probably won't come.
So let the search begin, a LB and a CF, maybe even a DM and a SB to balance up the squad even more and EPL 10/11 will be exciting.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm beginning to wonder if Nice are using Liverpool to drive Remy's price up. Remy's agent is also Lavezzi's agent, and we know how much he kept talking about Liverpool and Lavezzi.

Currently nobody but we can not go without a true LB in squad.. we are about to sell one big talent to Florenze for bargain, but Agger or Skrtel wont play as Left Backs..they are CB.. Carra and Johnson also out of question.. we now are about to sell or let go Degen..and Wilson...doubt he will start as left back ..

Kuyt and Jovanovic can play as CF, Ngog still there... but i agree we need cover, Remy would be great buy..

But i agree offcourse, we need new

LB (names like Taiwo being mentioned)
DM (in case Mascherano will leave...still no news on this)
CF (a guy who will accept to seat on bench more than play)
SB (we need a starting one - top player + one who will cover on left side offcourse)

Didnt Gerrard have an outstading season when he played on the right ? If I remember corretly it was, in goals, his best season.

I remember that season but i dont actually reemember if he liked it to be played on wing..Gerrard will always move to center in his game..he is a true AM - CM - SS type.. on side he provide crosses, but he is not this type in our squad to run on sides...Kuyt and Maxi are.. even Jovanovic or Cole at left..Gerrard is best in AM position imo..

No, Gerrard's best season for goals and assists was in 2008-9 when he was playing behind Torres as a second striker, he got 16 league goals (24 in total) in 9 less games than in 2005-6 when he was on the right and scored 10 league goals (23 in total).

Statistically speaking Gerrard's best (most productive in an attacking sense) is as a second striker.

It's so difficult to predict Hodgson's team with the players we have at the minute, it's exciting. He's got Gerrard, Cole and Aquilani who should all start but all play a similar position, then there's Kuyt, Maxi, Jovanovic, Babel, Riera who can all play on the wings (you can add Cole and Gerrard to that list as well) and then there's Torres, Kuyt, Babel, Jovanovic, Gerrard, Cole and Aquilani who can play up front or off the main striker.

While he does prefer a 4-4-2 system, i can't see him doing it here because the players we've got don't suit that system, we'd be better off with 5 in the middle having either Gerrard, Cole or Aquilani ahead of the rest of the midfield playing just off Torres. (In Pro Evo i play 3-5-2 because i've got the same amount of attacking players i need to keep happy )

I think he'll try something like this when he's got all the players back:

............Reina

Johnson Carragher Agger *******

.........Gerrard...Aquilani
Maxi..............................Jovanovic
.............Cole
................Torres

Re: Liverpool Thread

Joe Cole said He wanted to move to the biggest Club in England. He also snubbed Arsenal apparently for the same amount 80k and I think that is 10k less at Chels the smaller club  good to see money wasn`t an issue and being the most successful Club in England was a no brainier .Funny I wasn`t aware of Liverpool`s status I guess that why a new stadium is important.

Re: Liverpool Thread

most important thing for Liverpool is not the stadium, but get rid of current owners and find new ones...all the things that should have been now, will be after that, including new stadium i think..

About Cole, i think big reason in his transfer is not the money..but that he did not played like before in Chelsea starting 11 under Mourinho.. Obviously he prefeurs LFC becouse he can start here every match..but also maybe becouse we chainged coach that wanted him very much and who knows, maybe he like the club, atmosphere, supporters more than in previous teams he was linked with..

We are still the most successful club in the country, with the most international success of any club in Britain. To some people we are the biggest.

 @ Joey's bullcrap to make the KOP love him.

He'll have to try harder next time

Re: Liverpool Thread

Kostaz Kop loves all reds players, even Voronin i think..

Joe Cole first interview:

First of all Joe, on behalf of our fans all over the world welcome to Liverpool Football Club...

Thank you very much. I'm glad to be here.

What have the past 48 hours been like?

They have been crazy. I set myself a deadline to make a decision and when I made it I sent a text to Christian Purslow and Steven Gerrard and then turned my phone off. I know I have made the right decision and I am looking forward to the challenge. This is a challenge for me. I have played in London all my life. I could have stayed at Chelsea because the fans loved me and I won things, but I wanted to challenge myself and when I knew Liverpool were interested it was a no-brainer because they are the biggest club in the country.

This is a massive club. I tried to take everything out of the equation, take the financial and location side out and just thought in football terms. I thought about the semi-final of the Champions League in 2005 when I ran onto the field and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I was thinking about playing in that atmosphere every week and that swung it for me.

How will you feel to have the fans who made so much noise in that semi-final on your side now?

That's the thing I am looking forward to. You talk to Liverpool players and talk about the European nights. I experienced it as an opponent and it was immense. To go out there and play in that atmosphere every week will be phenomenal.

Did Roy Hodgson have to sell the club to you - or does the club sell itself?

I had a chat with the gaffer about football and was impressed with him. The club has had Spanish and French managers over the years and I think it's a breath of fresh air to get an Englishman in. The club finished seventh last year, which wasn't good enough, and he explained where the club wants to go. I jumped on board because with the players we have here and the players we are looking to bring in, it's definitely going in the right direction

With the amount of experience Roy has as a manager, how do you think he can help you move on to another level?

We have talked about positions in the team and types of formations he wants to play and I just want to be part of the team. I want to go out there and to run and fight for the lads and the fans. That's what I'll always do and Roy is the man who can make sure we are a nice unit as a team. It's all about us and being together as a team and having the spirit which can take you a long way. If you add that to the quality players we've got here we can go a long way.

Does it excite you when you look through the names in the Liverpool squad?

Yes, definitely. I am used to playing with world class players. I am excited about playing with Fernando and obviously I know Stevie, Carra and Jonno from the England set-up. Pepe Reina, Aquilani - there are a lot of big name players here but I will need time to settle down and relax into the club. I can guarantee the fans I will be giving 100 per cent every game. I am proud to be playing for this club and will give my all in every training session and every game to help the club be successful and put some pots in the trophy cabinet.

The day after you signed Steven Gerrard committed his future to Liverpool - how much did that mean to you?

That was the best bit of news I could have had. I know Stevie, he is Liverpool through and through and I know from playing with and against him for the last 10 years what a quality player he is. I know how much this club means to him. I think players can play for other clubs but with Liverpool you have to live and breathe it. It's that kind of a place. I am excited by the challenge. I am moving my family and everyone is excited and booking their weekends up here. I am going to make it work.

How big a move is it for you to move up north?

It's a massive deal. We've just had a young baby girl, but I'm 28 now and I have a good family around me. I know people will make me feel welcome and the response I have had has been amazing. I just want to get involved. When you move to a new club it's important to immerse yourself into everything about it and that's what I'll be looking to do. I know the fans are great with the players and I will fight to try and win trophies for this club.

You have been in Switzerland for a couple of days - how impressed have you been with your new manager in just a short space of time?

Obviously I'm not playing tonight but I have sat in on the first-team meeting and he is very thorough. He's very much about a team effort and he told the lads it's about effort and desire. We have to put that in to get results and we have to be together as a team. I think Roy is the man to bring us together tactically. It's going to be a very long season and there will be spells when things go wrong, but it's about how quickly you get out of them. If you start separating or relying too much on Stevie or Fernando then we can be in trouble, so we have to stay together, fight for each other and we can have a good season.

You have been given the No.10 shirt - what does that mean to you?

I'm proud to wear the No.10 shirt. I'd have been proud to wear any Liverpool shirt, to be honest. When I was growing up we were just coming out of the era when Liverpool were winning titles on a regular basis, but I know all about it and I'll be proud to wear the shirt. It'll be strange to pull on the red shirt for a change but I'm looking forward to it and looking forward to being given time to settle in. I just want to help the team to do things.

What do you think you can bring to the team and how much can you improve here?

I'd like to make a lot of chances for Fernando and the front boys. I don't want to say I'll do this and that, I'll just say the fans will have a player who is going to give his all. From what I hear, that's all the people want. I want to be a success here and I'll do everything I can for the team to make it work.

Do you think you are entering the peak stages of your career?

Yes, definitely. I've had a tough two seasons with injury and one of the factors in my decision was coming to a club where I'd be able to string 90 minutes together. Your body needs to get used to the sharpness of doing it week in, week out. I've had a difficult couple of years but I'm coming here as an experienced player who is still fresh and excited about it.

Do you set yourself targets?

I do but I'll keep them to myself. In football you can have a bad game or a great game, but for myself I want to be part of a team that's going to win things. It's important this team is challenging and that we're right there at the end. That's my target - to play as many games as I can in this team and achieve something great

Jamie Carragher was saying yesterday that you're alright for a Cockney...

That's as good as it gets, isn't it? I've always got on well with Scousers. I actually roomed with a Scouser for a year at Lilleshall - Ian Armstrong who went on to move to Liverpool, so I know I'll have to take a few weeks to understand the accents - I don't know how the Spaniards have coped with it. I have always enjoyed good banter with them. I remember on an England trip when I walked into the players' bar after a game and Carra's family were there singing the Minder song because my dad's name is George Cole. I do like the Scouse wit.

Have you always enjoyed the banter with the fans at Anfield?

You do get some stick. Over the last couple of years I've been warming up a lot down the touchline and the stick does make me chuckle. I love it and hopefully they will be saying nice things about me now

Are you prepared to become an honorary Scouser now?

Yeah. I'll be there eating a bit of Scouse. I like the Beatles as well, so I can't go too far wrong.

How excited are you as you prepare to start your Liverpool career?

It's a dream come true. I've only been here for 48 hours and my head is still in the clouds. It has all happened so quickly. I always knew this was a massive club but until you sign you don't realise. I have people on my phone who I didn't even know were Liverpool fans. It seems everyone I bump into is a Liverpool fan - it's a huge club.

What's your message to Liverpool supporters?

I know what they want and know they want a team to be proud of. I'll go out there every day and live and breathe the club and give my all. I just want to get myself fit. I'm a bit behind in my training work but I want to get fit and help the team to achieve something. I want to be part of a team that's capable of doing great things.

Thanks Joe - we wish you the very best in your Liverpool career!

Thanks very much.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I've had a kick about with him as he lived near my nan's in Skem. Played more football with his younger brother though. Don't know what happend to him though, think he went to a div 2/3 team.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think it's pretty clear that Rafa loves Liverpool and isn't just saying stuff to be nice.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah I appreciate that but that thing he said dropping in lines from YNWA was just cringworthy.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah I appreciate that but that thing he said dropping in lines from YNWA was just cringworthy.

Ah I see what you mean, that was a bit OTT to be fair

Not the money
:SHOCK::SHOCK:
You're paying him £18.7 million in wages.

He was going to get just under that if he signed for Spurs but he's got more chance of regular football at Liverpool I reckon (and probably so does he).

Re: Liverpool Thread

TBH I rate him and I think he'll do well for you, As much as us UTD fans take the piss, you still are a massive club, and for people of a certain age will always have that pulling power.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Wilson has passed his medical and will be available for the Europa League game next week :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's just trying to get that little bit extra saying the same pathetic BS Benayoun did

Benayoun: "I am very excited to come to a club like Chelsea, it is a big club and I think it is a dream for every player. Hopefully we will be successful."

Cole: "When I knew Liverpool were interested it was a no-brainer because they are the biggest club in the country."

To be honest, both are telling truth, Cole interview seems very calm and true words from him..

But even Benayoun knows Chelsea are not the bigest club in country... not in terms of history..they are just lucky the Russian guy came to them...becouse now they would have been in Championship..

LFC is still the bigest club in terms of records, history, fans etc. you can not beat that, not Chelsea.. United come close but in NO WAY Chelsea..

Well, but it was still one of the best seasons of his career. The second best in numbers. I would love to see him playing there. Gerrard and Joe Cole on the wings, it looks fantastic on papers.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Apart from Cole said this

"I want to play in a more central position. I want a manager who has faith in me and I`m talking about club football here. It is a big decision for me and my family but I`m open to anything at the moment."

So sticking him on the wing might not be a great idea.

I think you could play like this

Code:
             REINA
         AGGER CARRA
JOHNSON ?????
   | LUCAS MASCH |
   | AQUILANI |
   V GERRARD COLE V
            TORRES

just adding Danny Wilson quotes: "There were other clubs interested in me who are in the Champions League, but once Liverpool came in for me there was only one team I wanted to go to."

btw. Lucas is our captain today, congratulations :) I know friendly match we dont have to win, but i hope for nice game..

Re: Liverpool Thread

No chance.I'm more interested in what your team will look like in this season.

Is that Danny Wilson the fullback you were looking for?
