Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

How are we going to play ?

I would go for;
4-5-1
----------Reina-----------
Johnson--Carra--Agger---LB
----------Masch-----------
---Gerrard----Aquilani----
Kuyt------------------Cole
---------Torres-----------

Skrtel rotating with the CB's
Jovanovich/Maxi rotating with Kuyt/Cole
Babel/Ngog/Kuyt rotating/joining Torres
Lucas rotating with the CM's
Kelly/Darby? rotating with the WB's

You would still worry who is going to score without Torres, but going to a 4-4-2 should be a decent alternative. Definitly need a new LB and a good striker would be welcome.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Joe Cole's problem is that he is not a wide made but he has been forever shunted out wide as nobody plays a classic number 10 in this country.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He should be able to get central often enough if the players move dynamically (Kuyt/Cole and one of Gerrard/Aqui) not being fixed to one position. Otherwise I have no idea were he is going to play. Unless Hodges is going to give in to Gerrard's wish to play CM. Which is fine against the crappier sides. Which comes in handy as we will only be playing a few decent sides this season without CL football.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I guess this signing shows that we are really really confident in Bruckner 's job. We are taking a huge risk here, because if it goes wrong we are not going to be able to sell Joe Cole with the wages he has, but if Bruckner can fix him (as well as Torres and Aquilani) are going to have a world class player with no transfer being paid for him.

Now, if Hodgson likes so much playing with 2 strikers, then Insua, Benayoun and Riera sells and letting go Fabio Aurelio are also to buy a striker (Loic Remy according to the reports. I know Roy doesnt know who he is, but here Eduardo Maciá and Purlsow take all the shots). How are we going to play ?
Reina

Johnson Carragher Agger ?

Mascherano(Lucas ) Aquilani

Gerrard Joe Cole

Torres Remy

I think that Gerrard and Aquilani can't partner in the midfield. They are players too similar, it would be like Lampard-Gerrard. I could be wrong though

Jovanovic wont be sitting on bench and Riera is still in club..

i guess if Roy will play us 442 and Mascherano gone...like it seems..

our lineup could be sth like this:

--------------- Reina

Johnson -- Carra --- Agger/Skrtel - ?

------- Gerrard --- Aquilani -------

J. Cole ------------------ Jovanovic

--------- Kuyt ----- Torres --------

But maybe also like this:

---------------- Reina

Johnson ----- Carra --- Agger/Skrtel - ?

-------- Aquilani ----------------------

Kuyt ---------- Gerrard ----------- Cole

-------- Torres ------ Jovanovic -------

Riera is going, he is going to Olympiakos. Not a done deal yet, but it is probably going to happen in the next days. Riera or Babel (or both) should leave.
I hope Roy doesnt play with your second formation. Aquilani as a defensive midfielder ? You are kitting, right ?

Re: Liverpool Thread

We'll sign a left back. A front 5 of this sounds good

-----Lucas----Gerrard-----
Maxi-----Aquilani-----Cole
----------Torres----------

Anybody heard of Loic Remy? Supposed to be signing for us too.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Given the fitness worries over Cole, Aquilani and Torres, I wonder how often we'll see that front five play together.

Gerrard in CM and Lucas being given the bulk of the defensive responsibilities would be fun to see nonetheless.

Re: Liverpool Thread

-----Lucas----Gerrard-----
Kuyt-----Cole-----Jovanovic
----------Torres----------

Thats what I want to see,

Re: Liverpool Thread

tbh i'm excited about seeing Aquilani fully fit this season.

I'd be happy with a central pairing of Gerrard and Aquilani with Cole just ahead of them, Maxi on the right, Jovanovic on the left and Torres up front. With Kuyt and Lucas being interchangeable with about 4 of those in the starting line-up.

Re: Liverpool Thread

If you're playing that formation you need a destroyer or a anchor man or you'll just get outnumbered. Gerrard and Aquilani can't do that.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Roy had it perfectly balanced at Fulham, with Etuhu as the "destroyer" and Murphy as the playmaker.

Will be interesting how he shapes this central midfield.

from the pictures of training i dont know if Reina shurely is on his way out...even if he goes..the prize we want to sell him is ridicilously low...it should be about 7, not 4 milion pounds...

anyway...i think we buy a Left back and another central defender...hopefuly Wilson from Rangers..

+ i did not mean that Aquilani will be DM, but CM, with Gerrard as AM.. in classic 442 formation there is no true DM ..but two CM..

in this situation it is hard to predict, but if we sell Mascherano, we need to buy another midfield player..to cover up Lucas, Gerrard and Aquilani..Banega would be great...but then Lucas would have big competition...

so far we have made great deals on paper..hopefully Cole, Shelvey and Jovanovic prove the reputation in red shirt..

EDIT: City are going to buy Kolarov, and i have a feeling we will go after Wayne Bridge..

Re: Liverpool Thread

Your central midfield pairing is a worry if Mascherano goes, Gerrard has shown time and time again he can't play their. Aquilani alongside a destroyer could work but also works best further up the pitch. You have Cole know also who prefers to play in a similar position to them 2.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Purslow and Broughton are running our club into the fucking ground, and nothing anyone says will change that fact.

Purslow is a lying bastard, he's proven it on many occasions, Broughton is the same.

Right now, the future is not bright.

We've just sold our only left back - a 21 year old Argentina international - for less than £5m. We're about to be raped for Mascherano and there's still doubts over Gerrard and Torres. There's no signs of a new owner, no signs of any investment, no new stadium and absolutely no signs of us signing anyone because as soon as we're linked with someone Hodgson comes out and says he's never heard of it.

Amazing....where did all the gloom and doom go ?
On Sunday people were saying we're going to be mid-table....
and that Purslow and Broughton are ruining the club....
and that Roy is a yes man....

AND now one signing in Joe Cole has lifted everyone ...
I even read someone crediting Purslow......of course he deserves it.
he was handling the transfers..so give him credit where due.
If they wanted to sink the club, they would not have signed Cole with his wages and sign-on fee.

Like I said, I did not think the situation at the club was that bad
to begin with....
otherwise Roy Hodgson and especially Joe Cole would not have joined.
It could have been worse.. we could have had Sam Allardyce and James Beattie instead !!

Sure we need a left-back...and as Roy himself said it is a top priority.
He's not an idiot....Purslow and Broughton are not idiots who will ruin their
own professional careers by sinking Liverpool FC ...one of the biggest clubs in world football...
think about it.....they are professionals...who will do the job.

The signings that are necessary will come in....Hodgson himself said that
they are focusing on getting players before the end of July.
Joe Cole is EVIDENCE......hopefully more will come.

Don't worry....the club is being run by professionals...
Stop believing the doomsday propaganda out there.....
Liverpool FC has a fantastic future ahead...we just need patience.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You guys doesnt look to bad...I just hope that in couple of days Gerrard and Torres have their decision set and that they will remain with the club... The depth still aint there tought and with so many injurie prone players it is needed. I hope you guys have a good season as this years premier league is going to be amazing...6-7 teams right now can win the premier league, something we've never seen.

Re: Liverpool Thread

LEquipe report Liverpool unwilling to pay more than 12m euro for Remy. WHU's bid 17.75m euro. Remy leaves for training camp with Nice today

Can't see Nice wanting to let Remy go for €5.75m less even if he wanted to join Liverpool.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Now, that Pool are not playing in the CL. Is Roy going to keep his starting side in every game league n domestic . Seeing Gerrard,Cole,Torres n co. vs a reserve side like what Arsenal n Mutd put out in the Carling Cup . I imagine Roy will change very little the line up which rafa was demonized for. At least your squad have a good amount of English.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Great news....Gerrard is staying.....
that proves the theories wrong that
Purslow/Broughton are trying to sell all the best players.

I reckon we will see a better Gerrard and the team playing better
than last year....
and Hodgson will be the reason....he is very positive, motivated,
will motivate the players and make them play to their maximum.
What a difference a good man-manager can make...

Liverpool, a mid-table club, purslow running them to the ground ?
Not any more eh ? :-)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Danny Wilson has signed for us, £2m initial but rising to £5m.
