Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

this is why you lots get a proper banter thrashing...you moan like children then 1 signing everything changes . Seriously some have no shame it`s better to be a live dog then a dead lion eh? I said joe will join because he didn`t have a choice he out bid himself (mutd). Pool could of offer 70k and he would of takne it. Spurs n Arsenal were never going to get him. Pool made sense gerrard n cole will be like JT n pard.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think you guys will do well. Not sure how well, but it is nowhere near doom and gloom.

It all just depends on the way Hodgson sets you up and the form/injuries of your players.

Attacking wise I think you will be ok. Just maybe at the back is a bit of a doubt, but it looks like he is doing things to remedy that.

Re: Liverpool Thread

How has everything changed?

dags everyone in here was like it`s over (yes, man) even I ask wouldn`t you wait until the 1st 10 games before saying such things. Even albi came back with such joy and rightly so. I just have a different sense from negative to very promising in 1 day . Please, I have a great respect to pool as a club and I rather pool be back on top and put spuds back down.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I don't think we're in much of a different situation than we were this time last week. Cole is a great signing in my opinion, but although he was a "free" transfer, his signing fee is £6m I believe. That takes a big chunk out of what money Roy has to spend, while we still don't have a senior left-back at the club.

At to the fact that we've still got the two muppets owning the club, ridiculous debt and interest payments each month, no stadium planned and no new owners (despite Purslow being hired to find buyers a LONG time ago yet it's his duty to sign players now?), we're not in a good situation at all.

We still haven't heard whether Torres is staying, and Masch is pretty much a certainty to leave I reckon. Maybe if the Masch money is ALL given to Roy, then he might be able to bolster the squad a little, but I'm not convinced Roy will see much (if any) of a Masch fee.

Oh, and the very real threat of administration, points docked and players forced to be sold.

I think pool are better today then yesterday . The finances are something that could be misleading debts and all is too complicated to pin point. I really think most Pool fans are seeing Gerrard n Cole bringing a new belief to the squad something that was missing. I still believe after 10 games we should know more or less where every teams ambitions are.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I hope Liverpool do better than spurs aswell, just aslong as you lose the first game of the season ;)) :PP

don't let the Cole tranfer fool you mate, this is still a club in dire straights, and when i say that i'm not strictly talking about the team - because i think we've got a pretty decent line-up at the minute, but i mean the way it's being run and the owners etc.

we're still fucked, but we may have a good season in a footballing sense.

Re: Liverpool Thread

As long as you guys don't have Rafa's fat ass sinking the LFC ship you guys will have a regular season again.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We still are short of the following positions

- Striker : Assuming Torres will stay, we will need one more genuine
forward who can score goals since Torres is injury-prone.
Maybe Loic Remy ? Or will it be someone cheaper ?
I would prefer that Kuyt/Babel be the other striker

- Right-wing : We don't have any wingers on the right.
Kuyt is a striker and he needs to play with Torres or as backup
and not put on the right wing. He works hard for sure, but we
need someone who has pace and guile who can create assists.
Babel is not the solution either...since he is more of a RWF.

- Left-back (Admittedly Hodgson is trying to get someone soon)
(Ziegler, Figueroa ?)

- Right-back : still not convinced with Johnson.
We either need him to improve defensively or get a new player.

- Defensive midfield : With Masch looking like he will leave,
we dont have a tough tackling defensive midfielder...
I dont want us to use attacking players like Lucas or Aquilani
there...

It seems to me that the best formation for LFC would be 4-3-3
due to the lack of genuine width

-------------Reina-------------

--Johnson---Carra-Agger-----LB--

-----------DM-------------------

-------Gerrard------Aquilani----

---Cole----------------Jova------
------------Torres---------------

Possible outgoings:
- Mascherano, Riera, Soto

Subs:
- Wilson, Skrtel, Lucas, Babel, Kuyt

Re: Liverpool Thread

Maxi, Babel, Kuyt and Cole can all play on the right wing, plenty of options there.

Missing you Rafa.x

Re: Liverpool Thread

Danny Wilson has signed for us, £2m initial but rising to £5m.

good signing, hes not the complete package yet, obviously for being 18 and all, but he's quite cool headed and reads the game well for 18 year old. got a very bright future imo, after watching him a few times. hopefully he gets his chance at liverpool

I agree that we should look for a substitute for Torres, but it 's a tought decision. I dont think that Loic Remy is going to want to come here and accept that he is just going to be Torres replacement for when he is injured. He is going to want to be a starter And for that we would need to play with 2 upfront and change our tactic, but we have all the players to play a 4-2-3-1. Torres has shown that playing isolated he is a beast, but when he played with another striker he wasnt even near to how he played when he was isolated. Plus, Aquilani is brilliant playing behind a striker. If he was amazing playing behind a striker like Kuyt, can you imagine how he would be behind Torres ? And then we got Joe Cole and Maxi Rodriguez for the wings and Gerrad and Lucas as CM.
If we want to play a 4-4-2, then Masche has to stay and pair Aquilani in the midfield. As I said before, I cant see Aquilani and Gerrard playing together. They are both too similar players to play together.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Albert Riera set to sign for Olympiacos according to Greek radio, for €17million.

:BOP:

Don't let the door hit you on the way out! :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ah, just read that that includes the player signing fee and all of that nonsense. I think we'll receive €4m and an extra €1m if they win the league + 50% of the resale fee from what I'm reading.

Hopefully Itandje is the next idiot to leave the club (apart from the usual suspects anyway).

So in that case we should have Aquilani playing behind Torres....
yes that makes sense.....

Problem is that Cole wants to play in the middle....not sure how Roy
can accomodate that.....I hope it is not at the expense of Aquilani..

Kuyt should not be anywhere near the wings....he is wasted there...
he is a hard-working grafter....well appreciated for that....but
he would be more effective nearer the goal.

Maxi...not so sure....but it seems Maxi and Cole would fight it out
for the right side then.

I feel Roy can get the max out of Babel.....

Can't wait for the season...

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's true, it's 17M € but with the bonuses included in the price.

Yes that's the deal
I guess that the contract Riera will earn is included in those 17M, so that 's the total amount Riera is going to cost Olympiakos. If Im wrong, it really is a lot of money paying that transfer fee for a player like Riera.

Yes, 17M is the total expenses for Olympiacos, Liverpool are going to receive what Dags said (4M upfront +1M if we win the league (that is very likely to happen :D ) +50% from next sale)

i dont agree, i think Hodgson will play 442 as i think he prefeurs playng with two strikers up front...

where did you leave Kuyt - on bench? dont be silly, he will be a big part of our next season squad...imo a starter...or you think he can not convince Hodgson to play him?

Jovanovic i think can be used as left wing but also as striker...

i still think we play sth like this:

------------- Reina ----------------

Johnson -- Carra -- Agger --- NEW LB

Cole --- Gerrard - Aquilani -- Jova

--------- Kuyt ----- Torres --------

Subs: Lucas, Babel, Maxi, Skrtel, Wilson etc.

nobody said we need a true world class DM if we will play 442...

also we dont know if Hodgson will like to play Aquilani or prefeur him on AM over Gerrard and move Gerrard a bit deeper..

this things we can not predict..

The problem is we don't have wingers which are required for a 4-4-2.
Which is why I left out Kuyt...I was'nt being silly....
if we do play 2 up front then sure Kuyt
should get a chance with Torres.

But can't see Cole on the wings....I've been reading that he wants
a central role....

Like you say, we will find out on August 14th at home to Arsenal.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Gerrard and Aquilani can't work in a 2 man midfield and im not even sure they'd work in a 3 man midfield unless Aquilani can improve his defensive game.

hmm central role for Cole even in 433 lets say.. would mean either Gerrard or Aquilani on bench...becouse all 3 are suposed to by something like AM... Gerrard can also play CM but Aquilani as CM is not so great idea...for me he is more AM..i would rather see Lucas on CM becouse he can also defend better..

anyway i think Cole will be used more on wings.. and if not, that means Gerrard moves a bit back, with a DM in lineup...but Aquilani on bench...

or we play (in 433) like that:

------------- Reina ----------------

Johnson -- Carra -- Agger --- NEW LB

-------------- NEW DM --------------

-------------- Gerrard -------------

Kuyt ---------- Cole ----- Jovanovic

--------------- Torres -------------

obviously no Aquilani...the only way to play Aquilani with Gerrard and Cole imo...is to move Cole on wings and move Stevie in CM role.. giving Aquilani space to create things.. but with Kuyt and Jova in same team, we have to play without true Mascherano type DM...

United did this over best seasons.. Scholes is not DM, Carrick either..but they used to play great over the time on tihs postions also..

i just write this :P

Totally agree. But I think that it doesnt have to do with his defensive game, cause it's decent. But, it has more to do with him and Gerrard being two ofensive minded players. They both like to go deep so they clearly cant play together in a 2 man midfield.

No way Jovanovic or Kuyt are playing ahead of Aquilani mate. Joe Cole is clearly going to be a winger.
