Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

We're gonna miss Maxi tomorrow and by the looks of it we'll also miss Aquilani, he's got a stomach bug today apparently.

Kuyt and Lucas back in.

I'd rather Benayoun and Riera came in with Babel up front with Torres and Benayoun on the right.
What the hell ? I can see Rafa not using him for the next three matches now. I dont understand how Aquilani can have all the possible ills that the the players of the team have. First, after ARsenal en October, then a few weeks ago and now again.

Well when he got it the other week it was only 2-3 days after Skrtel was out with a stomach bug.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Probably rested for Sunday anyway.

As a United fan, I'm extremely keen that Aquilani play. He's played 90 minutes once, at home, against a team that had probably jsut learned they were relegated. He also goes walkabouts (in a helpful offensive way) leaving space behind - something that Mach and Lucas would never do.

Liverpool have had great success against United in the past 3 matches by stifling play and hitting long balls up to Torres, which is what I assume they'll do again (if it ain't broke).

What'll be really interesting will be if Howard Webb keeps not making calls, or if he takes the easy route - when in doubt, red card Vidic but yellow card Carragher.

Re: Liverpool Thread

 Vidic is already having nightmares about facing Torres again and being ripped a new one I reckon ;)

tbh i don't think Rafa ever planned to start Aquilani on Sunday but was going to start him tomorrow. He's not strong enough for a game like that yet imo

Could be wrong, but I'd imagine Vidic is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to prove his 'world class' defender status. And that means putting Torres back into the pocket he had him in the first few times they met...

Guess we'll find out Sunday!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Half of RAWK thought Gerrard was lucky to get off so you lot defending him says something!

I think you'll beat us Sunday, 2-1 or 1-0.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We'll play like this:

Code:
             VDS
  Nev Vidic Rio Evra
    Scholes Fletch Carrick
Valencia Park/Nani
            Rooney.

Liverpool will play like this

Code:
           Reina
 Johnson Agger Carra Insua
         Masch Lucas
Kuyt Gerrard Babel
           Torres

Re: Liverpool Thread

Riera's had a fall out with Benitez and wants to leave.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/mar/17/albert-riera-liverpool

"When the coach doesn't say anything to you and you are in good shape with no physical problems and training well, you have no choice but to think [the fact you are not playing] is personal," Riera said. "The team's playing badly and needs changes. If I'm doing something badly and you're my boss and you trust in me, then you would tell me what I am doing wrong and what I have to do to play. [The fact that Benítez has not said anything] is what most hurts.

"Right now the only market open is the Russian one. I have offers from two clubs and, given my situation, that has made me reflect a lot ... My objective is to go to the World Cup and for that to happen I have to play."

Riera said he was not alone in having communication problems with Benítez. "He thinks he is in charge and he just turns a deaf ear to everyone else," he told Radio Marca in Spain. "The dialogue with the players is practically non-existent. There is a lack of tact."

Asked about Benítez's credentials for Madrid, where Manuel Pellegrini is not expected to be in charge next season, Riera said: "At Madrid they ask you to win and play lovely football. We are effective, sure, but we don't play brilliant football."

The bolded bit kind of confirms suspicions he has 'lost' the dressing room.

The bolded bit kind of confirms it's probably not true.

It was only about 3 weeks ago he said this, before the City game:

"The money does not take you straight to the title but it certainly helps you a lot. But we can't think about that. All we are doing is thinking about ourselves and we will be focused on playing well.

"But whatever happens, you cannot say Liverpool is not in the top four. I don't know where we will finish but you know that we will keep fighting until the end of the season for fourth place.

"Anyway, if that doesn't prove to be the case, Liverpool are still top four. We have got a history and you cannot change everything in one year. The money they have will never take away from the prestige and titles we have.

"I am at the right club, I am sure of this. If you told me I had to change (back to Manchester City) I wouldn't do it. The money isn't important. It's the football. We have everything here."

Re: Liverpool Thread

I was wondering, with any so-called outburst to the foreign "PRESS" and the "translated" (AKA what the newsmaker wants to understand with their limited Foreign Language skills) to the actual, quoted Albert Riera, I really2 doubt this is what he says. Surely anything he says badly, even in Spain, Liverpool would hear about it.

But it's the Radio, not an article, so there might be some truth in the quotes.

No, he didnt exactly use that words. I got to tell you, what he said in spanish sounds a lot more polite that what the newspapers have translated.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Really unprofessional and bad timing from Riera. Another shitty comment from a crying player just before a European game and the Utd match? :BRICK:

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's the fact Riera has ran to the press about it, and before big games, is the surprise and annoyance for me.

Re: Liverpool Thread

This is classic in a World Cup year.
A player wants to go to the World Cup, is preoccupied with his place in the (national) squad, has less focus on his club team, becomes a bench warmer, wants to go away, becomes desperate and runs to the press...this happens at every club...i don't see why Benitez is to blame for what happened here.

The key are the results. If Liverpool was in Man Utd position and still in the CL, then everybody would be furious with Riera (or Riera would not have spoken to the press)...now everybody smells blood...manager...what an awfull job...

i agree.

The problem is there's already a group of "anti-Rafa" fuckwits who will jump at any chance to slaughter him, and this is like a red rag to a bull.

None will stop to think that a lot of it is probably out of context and mistranslated, none will stop to think of the twisted agenda that Marca have, they just see "Another player said Rafa isn't like their daddy! he must go!!!!!!"

It's pathetic.

Agreed, this sort of carry on wouldnt have happened back in the day, this was never the liverpool way. Mind you with the state of things nowadays, everything is akin to an american soap opera.
Listen! you can almost hear shanks turning in is grave.

I remember reading a while ago about a group of players including Ian St. John who formed a small group in the Liverpool squad who didn't like the fact that Shankly was only about the football and hardly spoke to them.

Seemed to work for him :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Apparantly Riera gave Pacheco a punch in training a while ago and hasn't really featured since.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hopefully the atmosphere won't be as embarrassing as it was against Portsmouth, Anfield's a fucking library these days, it's gone downhill ever since that Reclaim the Kop group of wankers decided they were the elite fans and alienated a huge group of fans who didn't happen to live within 100 yards of the Kop.
