Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Brown saw Gerrard coming and moved into his path to block him, Gerrard was trying to get passed him.

Brown is a cunt of the highest order though, have always hated him. How he got through the match without being booked is beyond me. He doesn't get booked for his rugby tackle, somehow he gets away with climbing all over Gerrard in the area (outside of the box and it would have been a free kick, it's still the same foul!), and constant fouls and obsructions throughout the match. Probably my most hated player, to go with Neil Warnock being my most hated manager.

Speaking of penalties, how did Johnson not get a penalty either? If we can see it's a clear foul without needing a replay from a camera further away than the ref, how does he not see that? Or the linesman?

The standard of refereeing is shit in this country in my opinion.

Just realised Maxi is cup-tied for the Lille game, which is disappointing. He had a superb game last night and it's a shame he can't continue that form.

Re: Liverpool Thread

erm this is the only gif you need to look at regarding the gerrard/brown incident

http://i42.tinypic.com/2r20kch.gif

Brown looks round, move across and raises his elbow to check Gerrards run, only problem is, he doesnt time it, Gerrard sees the red mist because of it (and other dirty tricks during the entire game) and lands a blow.

Gerrard should be punished but why should Brown escape punishment, there was intent.

And yes, mixing Maxi against Lille will be a blow :(

Hes been gradually getting better and better, he has great understanding with Torres and he linked up really well with "the prince" and Johnson.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hi never said that Torres was bad Dags.
He simply did not play enough to be brilliant or make a difference.
I think players should not interfere with club management. That is a bad sign that a player considers himselg bigger than his club.
If Torres played for Burnley that would be the case, but never for Liverpool. Liverpool are a monument and Torres is at his best a fellow traveler.

15 in 18 starts is what you would call world class for a season that has been interupted by injuries, how can that not make a difference. If he had played more games we would not be in this mess, it really is as simple as that, Torres knows it too, he isnt arrogant, but he knows he is a player that raises belief and confidence. What is wrong with demanding support.

Our net spend last season, a year after we should have built on a sustained title challenge, was £0. We trimmed the squad, to reduce the wage bill. and only replaced the two first teamers thats departed (Arbeloa and Alonso) We had less numbers in the squad, and promoted reserve/youth players to make up the numbers.

Its ok for Rooney and Beckham to wear those green and gold scarves. They arent actually coming out and saying things against the owners, but it looks good for the cameras and cememnets their legendary statuses with the fans. Because despite the debt, United's purchasing power is huge, and Ferguson is ALWAYS backed in the transfer market. I actually can't see why the Glazers are so despised. There is a lot of debt, but the stadium is being expanded, you are making record profits year after year, Fergie is backed in the market, The Glazers generally keep quite and respect the traditions of the club.

I think our first team, which is pretty much what you saw last night, is as strong as any in the premiership and around Europe, but anyone can see that we lack quality backup options. But we have to show ambition, some of the quality first teamers at the moment need competition from world class players to raise their own game and give us strength.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wouldn't compare our defense to the best in the league. It's pretty crap tbh.

Johnson is really good going forward but defensively poor,
Carra is past it and is getting more and more reckless,
Agger has talent but can't get enough games through injury,
Insua is a lb who can't jump and defend crosses

I would say Masch, Gerrard and Torres would get in to most teams, Aquilani I have no idea really. Needs more time, more games. Looks to have the talent.

As for Johnson not getting a penalty, well it's been the motto this season for most referees; Don't make any important decisions and hope for the best. I've seen it in all the games this season, it's the Howard Webb model for succes. Gerrard could have been sent off, personally I thought he was giving as good as Brown was trying to give, but offcourse that's another major decision so better not to do anything. FInd it amazing at times how referees seem to have no grasp of basic logic, a player is nearly clean through to put in a dangerous shot or cross, get's tackled and the ball goes out of play; It's either
A - a corner and a clean tackle
B - a penalty
C - A dive and a card

But everytime it ends up being a goalkick!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Agree with Tikx3. English officials no longer make big calls, they just wave play on. Very frustrating, but understandable given the way they're treated by the media.

Why we still can't have a system whereby refs come out and explain themselves - even if it was sorry, I didn't see that from where I was - I think everyone would be far more understanding.

From SSN - no action will be taken. As I said, fine, at least he did it to Brown, but can we at least use this incident, coupled with Rio's a month ago, to put to bed the whole FA love United myth, and just leave it as, the FA don't know what the hell they're doing?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Beckham and (and even much more so) Rooney wearing those yellow and green scarves is pure class..it's making a statement without saying anything.
If i was Rooney's manager given the situationin Mancherster i would be (secretly) happy with his statement.

Anyway: nice performance from Liverpool yesterday: congratulations. A half decent Liverpool will always end fourthe (and i'm a Spurs fan).

Re: Liverpool Thread

He bloody elbowed the guy from behind. Amazing decision by the ref!

Mind you, Stuart Attwell was the same prick who allowed that phantom goal at Watford, as well as disallowing that Miles Addison winner in the Forest/Derby game last season.

Why the fuck he was fast tracked to the Prem is beyond me.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah as much as Michael Brown is a cunt and was antagonising Gerrard all game, I fail to see how you can defend that? It's more blatant than Rio's elbow on Fagan, he's punched him with one hand then give him a forearm smash with the other and followed through with his legs for good measure!!! The only reason nothings getting done is because of the backwards law on if the ref saw it nothing can be done! Fucking disgraceful to be honest but it wouldn't be the first time Stevie's got away with decking someone would it?! ;))

First time I've actually enjoyed watching one of your matches in months and this goes and happens to blight it.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I dunno, maybe it's just me, but with the game being won already, and OT is next on the menu, you have to wonder how much intelligence Gerrard's brain has to do something as stupid as that.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Maybe he just didn't want to play at OT with the way the team is atm.

Fortunately for him he wasn't booked or sent off, ridiculous action when you think about it, coasting at 3-0 with a few important games coming up.

There is just so much wrong with that, But it is March.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Personally I enjoyed it - Michael Brown has been a pain against us and if anyone deserved it he did. Particularly enjoyed his appeal to the 4th official. More of the bullying on the pitch please, just like Chelsea and Man U (not Arsenal unless Sol is around).

ok, end of sarcasm and on to my question:When did this type of blocking become legal and not obstruction?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hightlights why the ref didn't do much about it. He's not even looking at the ball FFS, all he is trying to do is cynically block Gerrard with arms raised.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Um, even if a foul was given against Brown for obstruction, it doesn't mean that Stevie should be able to elbow him in the face. Even if play was stopped, it's still a red card.

But anyway, it's nothing new the FA have no balls to publish big name players (except Rio Ferdinand, seriously what did that boy do to the FA in earlier years?!) John Terry and Rooney would probably have gotten away with it too.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So should it have been a red for Brown for throwing an elbow as well?

Re: Liverpool Thread

So should it have been a red for Brown for throwing an elbow as well?

Potentially. Scholes was shown a straight red for an attempted lash out at Alonso a few season ago after Xabi had been tugging on his shirt. Same situation, initial foul done by one player not giving the other the right to retaliate.

Anyway, it doesn't matter, Stevie walked wrongly and will now undoubtedly score the winner at OT. Because that would cause controversy, and that's what pads the FA's pockets. They'll lap it up as the TV and newspaper money comes flowing in. No player should be allowed in any situation to deliberately slam their forearm into someone else's face. I believe a certain Mr. Hume could teach us a lesson on that. Or Pedro Mendes.

I'm not surprised, just disappointed.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Gerrard's lucky the ref saw the incident, if he hadn't made a note of it in his report then the FA could have (would have) gotten involved, it's a ridiculous rule that.

Fucking stupid thing to do but yeh, couldn't have happened to a nicer man. The funny thing is if Gerrard hadn't have done that he might have got a foul himself because Brown cuts him off and raises his arm just before Gerrard twats him. I think Gerrard's been wanting to knock him out for a while now, he always gets away with shit against us, he head butted Xabi Alonso in one game the cunt.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah, he is a bastard. I remember when he did a two footed, studs leading lunge at Giggs on the opening day of the 2006/07 season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We're gonna miss Maxi tomorrow and by the looks of it we'll also miss Aquilani, he's got a stomach bug today apparently.

Kuyt and Lucas back in.

I'd rather Benayoun and Riera came in with Babel up front with Torres and Benayoun on the right.

Fucking hell, Aquilani has another stomach bug? He only had one last week!

He needs to lay off this English food I reckon.
