Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I knew it was too good to be true, more like DIC made the media think it's in an advance negotiation when it's barely the beginning.

Anyway, don't worry about him. Concentrate on Inter :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

"it is clear to me that such a committee approach would not be in the best interest of Kop, of the Club or of the Club's loyal and passionate supporters"

Pass me the sick bag. That just fucking pissed me right off.

I'm not a Hicks supporter by any means, but I do think he's right on this point. I'd much rather have there be one guy in charge than have Liverpool run by a committee.

I'd also prefer that "one guy" to NOT be Tom Hicks.

However, I think that right now it's the supporters that are doing the disservice to the team by making this breakdown in negotiations be "news" on the night before a great Champions League away match. I'd much rather see a united front leading up to the match than this mix of hate and vitriol.

The ownership stuff isn't going to be sorted until the summer. Right now, let's enjoy Liverpool's best form of the season. Can't wait for Agger's return soon either.

Re: Liverpool Thread

That's one of the most annoying aspects, that Hicks couldn't wait until tomorrow to say this news. We're in great form, coming up to a HUGE game and he gets everyone pissed off, obviously making everyone lose focus. If he cared about the team so much, why deliver the shite news right before the Inter game? Fool.

Re: Liverpool Thread

What's this stuff I'm hearing about Alonso falling out with Benitez yesterday?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Alonso's girlfriend was in labour. Xabi wanted to stay behind, and told Rafa that he would try to come to Milan later. Rafa obviously said that he couldn't wait, and Xabi should just stay back, as he has to prepare for the game.

Journos, as usual, pick on this, and the usual "Xabi is off to Barcelona" bullshit.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Pepe Reina missed a game because his wife was in labour too. I agree with Abhishek, it's the media trying to make something out of nothing. We're the hot topic at the moment and we're selling papers, so they need to keep us in the news with our "sensational scandals".

Re: Liverpool Thread

Exactly. I do feel Rafa might have been a little frustrated as Xabi would have been key to his game play. But this is Lucas' chance to show his worth.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm looking forward to tonights game. It should be a good game keeping in mind all the possible scenarios. If Inter score first, they're gonna try and pressure Lpool. If Lpool scores first, Inter have to score 4 and they're gonna play high risk..

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, should be a very good game. I'm expecting us to get hammered in possesion, Inter will dominate the majority of the game and we'll try to hold a tight back-line. With Babel and Torres, we've got the pace to hit them on the counter and get that vital goal.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It could go both ways tbh...Inter are off their game since the match at Anfield, but if they get an early goal then it is gonna be a thriller!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Tom Hicks rejects idea of Liverpool FC fans on board
Mar 11 2008 Exclusive by Dave Prentice, Liverpool Echo

TALKS between Liverpool’s American co-owner Tom Hicks and Dubai International Capital collapsed after the Dubains proposed putting a fans representative on the Anfield board, the Echo can reveal.

It is understood that DIC wanted a supporter representative in the boardroom, with full voting rights.

The plan to give fans a real stake in the club’s running followed a trip to Liverpool by a representative of DIC, who met members of supporters’ groups campaigning for the Americans to sell to DIC.

American billionaire Hicks last night swiftly pulled the plug on discussions held yesterday with DIC, saying: “Based on a meeting held earlier today in Dubai between my representatives and officials of Dubai International Capital LLC, as well as other recent contacts between us and them, I have decided to terminate any further discussions with DIC regarding their possible purchase of a minority stake in Kop and, in turn, in the Club.

“DIC made it clear that if they invested in the Club, they would want it to be managed by committee.

“Based on my thirteen years of successful experience as an owner of professional sports teams, and based in particular on the situation at Liverpool Football Club over the past year, it is clear to me that such a committee approach would not be in the best interest of Kop, of the Club or of the Club's loyal and passionate supporters.

“Accordingly, I have decided to exercise my right under the Kop Football (Holdings) Limited partnership agreement to veto any sale of any portion of Kop and the Club to DIC.

“I and my colleagues and representatives will continue to explore a number of other options with regard to the ownership of Kop and the Club aimed at achieving an appropriate ownership, financial and organisational structure for Kop and the Club over the long term.”

DIC have made no official comment since, but significantly have not said they are no longer interested in purchasing the club - or a significant stake in it.

It is understood their interest has not waned despite Hicks calling off any deal. It has also been suggested Hicksd wanted the ubaiins to ;pay for the building of the new stadium and for future transfer fees, but without any real say over big decision regarding the club’s future.

There has also been no comment from American co-owner George Gillett, who has fallen out with Hicks and has made no comment for many weeks and whose name has been missing from all recent statements issued from America.

Gillett is understood to have agreed in principle to sell 49% of his 50% stake to DIC, and the other 1% to Hicks to give the Texan a controlling interest.

DIC have accepted that Hicks will not sell his share in Liverpool in the near future, but would insist on a clause giving them first refusal to buy his stake.

As far as Liverpool are concerned now, it is back to square one with Hicks and Gillett at loggerheads – even more so now the Texan has vetoed the sale – and there are only 17 months until the £350million loan the Americans took out in January has to be refinanced again.

Furthermore, another loan of around £300million will have to be taken out to finance the building of the new stadium at Stanley Park.

Re: Liverpool Thread

TBH, I am getting very nervous now. Still hours to go for the game, but even with a two goal lead, I am still not sure. We have not lost by 2 goals this season, apart from Reading, which does give me confidence. Defensively, we are very organized, but you never know. Anything can happen.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm pretty confident. Inter HAVE to attack, they WILL leave space at the back for us to exploit. I'm confident we can get one goal and kill it off, I really can't see Inter getting four goals passed us. Maybe two, even three. But to get three past us without reply? I can't see it.

Of course, I could also see it going to 2-0 and penalties :(

a fully fit inter could be able to win 3-0 against liverpool, imo.
but the inter we saw in the last month is a totally different team, and i honestly can't see the nerazzurri going through the next round.

good luck guys! ;))

Re: Liverpool Thread

The thing is this isn't a league game where Inter can play how they feel and if they play their usual game, they could beat us 3-0. This is a game where the pressure is on them to get at least two goals so they HAVE to attack and they can't play their usual game. All this while making sure they don't concede a goal. Going to be tricky for Inter I reckon.

Re: Liverpool Thread

My Prediction league went something like this:

1. Liverpool 83 points
2. Chelsea 82 Points
3. Arsenal 82 Points
4. Aston Villa 79 Points
5. Manchester United 78 Points
6. Everton 74 Points

I tried to be as realistic as possible and resisted going with my heart in an attempt to make United and Everton loose out on CL places...I somehow failed....

Newcastle were also relegated with Derby and Fulham :D

jesus pete i thought mine was a bit ott...

Pepe! :EASY:

Honestly, why are you worried about penalties, when we have Pepe? :D

And a fully fit Liverpool will not concede 3 goals against any team in Europe :-pp

We just need ONE goal, and the game is finished IMO.

It's to our advantage that Inter WILL attack. They will leave space, and Gerrard and Torres are absolutely lethal on the counter attack. Add to that Babel's pace, and I feel that their center backs will have a problem in handling our counter attack.

And anyways, we have Rafa, and you can count on him to devise a plan to nullify Inter's attacking threat.

My team

Reina

Arby Carra Sami Aurelio

Lucas Monster

Stevie G
Kuyt Babel

Nando

Carra will have his hands full today. Ibrahimovic on song is a dangerous player.

@Ben, is Suazo likely to play?

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's not the saving the pens I'm worried about, it's the scoring them hehe ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Suazo is on the bench. Mancini will start with Ibra and Cruz

actually i don't know :))

btw abhi, ibra has some tendons problems and, coz of this, his performances have been really disappointing in the last 4 weeks.... of course he will play despite not being fit, coz he's a key player.... but i can't see him being such a big factor in tonite's game :))

Is that all? This is why I NEVER buy newspapers.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I read that Inter could play 5 in midfield which could be interesting.

I hear Crespo is 60/40 to feature, I hope he doesn't.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Crespo? Why not?

He knows that even if he puts 2 goals past us, he still can't beat us  :EASY:

Re: Liverpool Thread

I am also a little worried about Lucas. He has all the tools to be world class. BUT, this will be his biggest game of his life. I think the situation may just overwhelm him a bit. Going to the San Siro in a UCL quarter final in his first season, is a big task.

Xabi, besides being world class, also is vastly experienced in Europe.

Let's hope Lucas can fill in his shoes.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You'll be fine tonight lads - you are proving that you're full of goals now and I'd bet my missus on Torres getting one. One goal is all you need, job done.

Arn't you cheerful today? :D

You'll be putting a lot more on the line if we go through today

I will eat my own poo if L'pool knock Inter out of the European Cup. It just won't happen.

:EASY:

Re: Liverpool Thread

OH god yeah!!!

Hahahah I cant WAIT till we put them out. I expect a live webcam feed tonight Mike :) - No pun intended
