Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

I have that worry aswell. Fortunately we aren't in as bad a position, and Kenny actually has some experience and knowledge, whereas Shearer can barely make a decent point on MotD.

.

I agree it's nothing like the shearer situation at newcastle, although it could possibly turn into a keegan situation, but i doubt it. Lets be honest, at the mo joe public would be better than woy!

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

I fear for you now, I really do. One thing you could say about Hodgson is he had recent experience of a premier league relegation battle and managed to stop a sinking ship. Dalglish has no recent experience at all, he's a dinosaur of the game (similar to Joe Kinnear or George Graham) and his teams have never been in a battle to avoid the drop. He will also be afforded waaaay more time that either Hodgson had or he (Kenny) deserves. If Liverpool start dropping like a stone (e.g. Aston Villa) there will be no calls for Kenny to get the chop.

The thing that's worrying about your club is the level of militancy within your fans, the fans were against Hodgson after about a month and then by November this crazy (and anyone who isnt a Liverpool fan can see it's crazy) idea of getting "King Kenny" in seemed to spread like a wildfire amongst Liverpool fans.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

 This has Shearer Mk2 written all over it.

HUGE difference between the two, very naive to suggest it really. The main point being that Shearer didn't have any managerial experience whatsoever, Dalglish has and won trophies during it.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

 This has Shearer Mk2 written all over it.

Why?

I honestly don't remember any time in the past when Shearer became Newcastle's third most successful manager and had his tenure at the club cut short by stress caused by a disaster. I mean, i may be wrong but i don't remember that happening.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

 This has Shearer Mk2 written all over it.

They'll beat us tomorrow, everything suggests it.

We're top of the league, just had a week of great results. They've just sacked their manager after doing a shite job and are in crisis. Inevitable that they'll beat us.

Also they've got a new manager, and new managers always seem to win their first game, and usually it's against us as well.

That said, they'll still lose the next game after that, absolutely nothing will change. Plus Kenny's been out of it for years, I'd be surprised if he actually does a better job that Woy, especially with the bag of shite squad that Rafa left.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

We've been over this "shite squad" nonsense, it's far from that and there's enough "facts" to show that too. All too easily people like to refer to the Sky Sports type of arguement without even looking into why they're saying these things.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

I agree with the first part. United 0-1 Liverpool tomorrow. Always seems to happen in this sort of situation.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Can see tomorrows game going either way, or a draw, too hard to say. Kenny's only arriving in the country today so he's not had a few days to sit down with the team to discuss any tactics, weaknesses in United's team or style of play, how he wants us to play etc.

Going to be a bit of a rush job to get the team ready for how he wants us set out tomorrow, so I can see it being more of a William Wallace moment where he's going to give out some basic instructions and then a big speech to get the players up for it.

On another note, I think we'll be able to attract a far better calibre of player under Kenny than we could've with Roy. Torres is a huge fan of Kenny as well as a good friend so that should also bode well. Rumours that Ian Rush is going to have a role too, so Torres couldn't really have better mentors than two of Liverpool's greatest goalscorers.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

i was a very big fan of Dalglish as a player and also was happy when he was successfull as a manager...of course there is a big but in the seonc part of this post.

I smell disaster now. This is a totally different generation of players. To me the job of a manager or a coach is all about motivation and less about tactics. People much more knowlegeable about football than me have argumented in the thread about Italian football have given examples enough that a succesfull manager like Mourinho is far from a tactical wizard. In my memories Dalglish was not the great chess player as a manager either. I'm afraid he will have lost touch with this generation.

On top of that, this isn't maybe a shit squad (that was harsh), but a back line with Johnson, Skrtel, Kyriakos and Konchesky is not good enough for a team like Liverpool...

Lastly: never go back where youy once where a hero. The parallel which comes to my mind is also with Newcastle, but not with Shearer...i was thinking about Keegan last stint as manager in Newcastle. In my opinion he got them relegated the way he walked out on them. I'm pretty sure that he felt he lost touch with the current generation of players.

I really hope i'm wrong, but in less than two months people will see that Dalglish was not the right man (i'm not sure if he's only a caretaker until the end of the season, that would not be as bad then...but even then i wouldn't be surprised if Dalglish would stop prematurely).

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

@ Gerd,

The hope I have is that with Dalglish having been at the club for 1,5/2 years now he will know everything that has and hasn't worked and has been "in the game" but from the sidelines. Also I hope the players do look up to him and will fight for him because of his record and past links with the club.

Tbh, I would expect him, together with Sammy, will know how to get the team prepared and what tactics will work. I'm not expecting him to come in and try to get the players to play the way he had succes 15/20years ago...because he had it back then.

I think a big issue with Hodgson was that the players just weren't impressed with him (like us) and because of that didn't respond to his primitive tactics and mentality. It will be interesting to see if Dalglish has the insight and balls to put Gerrard more advanced and not give in to his ego. I think that might be the biggest sign whether he is still up for the job.

Read the RAWK post Dags put up earlier (about a driver who works for the club) and whether it was real or not the interesting aspect was the position he took about Gerrard. Him having a lack of awareness and positional instinct to be a CM and his mentality to go forward making him far better in attack. Suggesting teams actively target Gerrard when he does play at CM because he leaves far too many gaps.

If Dalglish continues to play him there, instead of Lucas with Meireles, then I will start to worry.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Time will tell tik...
I hope Dalglish does well, because IMO he is the best Brittish football player ever (yes better than Best). He is a living legend and i have a feeling that all what he will do know will taint his legacy...i hope i'm talking bullshit.

Re: Liverpool Thread(HODGSON OUT!!)

Is anyone filing complaint on Danny Keller for calling Rafa a nonce live on the air.? on 5live

It was Danny Kelly on Talkport.

Surely Rafa has a case against him for this, he should lose his job at least but Rafa could easily take him to court.

Yeah, it's still good :) They should be winning the league really! There are so many world class players at Liverpool!!! :WORSHIP::WORSHIP::WORSHIP::WORSHIP::WORSHIP::WORSHIP::WORSHIP:

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

firstly, not really my preferred choice but hopefully will be good enough till someone comes in over the summer.no excuses not to be geed up under dalglish as he commands great respect from senior players ie torres, gerrard, reina, carra.all in all, anyone but the senile twat would have been all rite

secondly, all people saying hodgsons inherited a rubbish rafa squad, not good enough, not hodgsons fault, watch us now.tunes gonna change real quick.

PS:f..k you roy hodgson,go do one!

I know you're on a wind-up (and have been from the start), but seriously why is there a weird mentality in football now that if you say "we're not that bad" or "we've got some quality" that instantly gets turned into "we're the best" "we're gonna win the league" etc.?

It's happened an awful lot lately

"Hodgson isn't good enough, he needs to go" becomes "Hodgson is 100% to blame for every bad thing in the club and once he goes we'll be contenders at the top again"

"I'm happy to have Dalglish there as he'll give everyone a lift" becomes "Now that we've got the King back we'll win the league and will smash Man Utd tomorrow!"

Sick of it tbh, loads of pointless arguments caused by idiots who are just looking for them.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Wonder why this took so long...one day before the Man united game....

Seems to me they could not find anyone else....

Kenny will probably have had no time to do any work with the team...

incredibly he faces his great rival Fergie on his return...
and a week later at home to EVERTON....

could'nt script that one..

I noticed someone has added this to Danny Kelly's wiki page:

Danny Kelly referred to Rafael Benitez as a nonce live on air during a TalkSport broadcast on 8th January 2011. The irony of this is not lost on a lot of people, as Danny Kelly is a doppelganger for Jonathan King.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Somehow, I muddled up the classification of British people with the fact NI isn't part of Great Britain.

Bollocks to semantics!

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I am pinching myself....I can't believe Roy Hodgson has finally
left our club....should never have been given the job...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-but-did-not-deserve-to-be-left-dangling.html

Purslow will look at this as a big negative against him...
spending money to get Roy Hodgson from Fulham...
and now spending millions in compensation ...

Will be interesting how Kenny lines up the team....
have not been this excited for a while...
I just want to see some passion and attacking flair in this team...
the season is a write off otherwise...

Summer will be huge..

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...o-rescue-Liverpool-in-their-hour-of-need.html

And that's from a man well known for being good friends with Roy Hodgson and not giving Liverpool any favours in his articles either.

And already expectations are too high.

Too high? How exactly? I'd say that Dalglish finishing his second term, an emotional farewell that he never got to do last time, bringing in a new long-term manager, the real likelihood of us signing quality players due to FSG having spent a year learning about football and Comolli having a season to find suitable talent.

I'd say all of that is pretty huge and besides signings (which you can never tell if they will work out or not anyway), it's not expectation, it's exactly what will happen.

Summer will be huge.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

So is next year your year then?

Tongue in cheek aside, I'm mighty relieved I stuck my bet on Pool before Hodgson left. Got much better odds. I seriously think you lot will win today, just because of the wave of good will running through the players.

But I don't think Daglish is actually going to be able to maintain that, and in the end the quality (or lack thereof) in the squad will show throw. Not trying to be mean, I feel the same way about United (that our League position is inflated given the quality of our players).
