Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Another thing that worries me is that if Rafa goes, most of our Spanish players, including Torres might go with him. These are dark days for us.

And the owners are pissing me off. They should make it clear now whether Rafa is going to stay or not. All this uncertainly is making the whole thing even worse.

No I don't think there will be a mass exodus.

They have contracts to honour and they have fans to play for, apart from Carra and Stevie G, the spanish contingent is our favourite. I thinks some of the recent comments about Rafa being why the players are there even from Skrtel for example is to fight back at the media. But I think we need to get in an equally respected manager in the Summer. If its Jose, let it be.

I think to get back to winning ways it really is pretty simple, play this settled team, drop Voronin, Kuyt and Riise. Its just up to Rafa, is he too stubborn? I fear he is.

The positives: Torres scored from outside the box!, Agger is back, we have defensive cover in the form of a sought after slovak, we're in the last 16 of the CL, and the yanks/clowns could be on the way out come Feb.

Mark my words with Agger back we WILL improve. He is that important.

----------------Reina--------------

Finnan/Arbloa--------Carra/Skrtel-----Agger-----Aurelio/Riise

----Gerrard---------Mascherano---Alonso------Kewell

------------------Benayoun/Babel

-----------------------------------Torres

I'd really like to see Benayoun just off Torres, but not to deep in a Beardo role. Heck I'd even like to see Garcia back upfront with Nando.

Gerrard needs to be free. For some bizare reason he just won't get forward from CM even though Masch mops everything up. Stick him on the right, let him roam, cut in and put crosses in. Let Alonso or Lucas playmake because they are obviously much better at doing so.

Our next transfer priority are: Fullbacks and Wingers.

I think Finnan is in his last year of usefulnes. Depiste being a solid defender he just ins't compotent enough on the ball. Arbeloa still doesn't instill confidence in me.

Aurelio will not stay fit to establish himself after such promosing performances. Riise is gash but does provide good defensive, physical prescence. Insua should step up to the first team.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yes, I do hope that none of them leave.

Winning is pretty simple, but yes, Rafa is very stubborn. It's one of his main negative points. He has to drop Riise, Voronin and Kuyt (though I still feel he has something to offer). They are horrendous, and cannot control the ball. But I was glad he at least tried Babel and Torres up front, which worked decently. And that line up is the best we can get with the players we have.

Benayoun is an intelligent player, who can work nicely behind the hole, and Kewell, for all his injuries, has been decent this season. At least he has control over the ball. Watching Riise is just embarassing. But I would still like to see Babel up front. In many ways, he reminds me of Thierry Henry. Obviously, Henry is much more quality, but his playing style is similar to Babel. Babel could be devastating in a free role with Torres.

I would also like to Insua and Nemeth get a game against Luton. We rave about our youngsters, yet they haven't been given opportunities. We should do it that way Wenger does, slowly bring them through, after playing them in the cups. Well, Benitez is stubborn in this aspect too.

Regarding the next manager, I will not be unhappy if Jose comes. He has something that Liverpool need, and Rafa is not being able to provide right now. And lets hope those donkeys don't get the loan in February. I hear DIC is still sniffing around.

Re: Liverpool Thread

and an Irish billionare I think is also sniffing who is a Liverpool fan.

Actually can't remember if hes a billionaire or a millionaire.

Re: Liverpool Thread

No matter how stubborn he is deep down
Rafa knows Voronin is a complete dud.

It went wrong it's time to let the guy
go, he looks out of his depth which is
bad.

We need a stop gap winger(Menez, Vicente...)
and striker - Defoe? this month or otherwise
our season will go bad, can't keep relying on
two players to save us all the time.

Could care less if Rafa leaves in the summer...

I dunno mate, I really don't. Lippi? Mourinho? McLaren? (just joking), Allardyce? I can't say I'd be overly excited at any of those names. It's just one big mess, it really is

Hitzfield
Ancelotti(Milan won't make top four or win the CL)
Lippi
Schuster
Rijkaard(Isn't this his last season at Barca?)
...And that guy who got sacked by Valencia

There will be some top-class managers available in
the summer.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wonder why he didn't play Crouch more often? Is it just that he doesn't like immobile strikers like him or what? He gives a different dimension to the team .. and his goal to game ratio is much better than Voro ..

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well, there are a number of questions, which only Rafa can answer. I guess that's one of them.

Btw, I just heard that Fred is available for transfer. Fred was immense a couple of seasons, but for his injuries. He should be around 8 million. Can't we sell one of our strikers, and get him? Would be a waste if he goes to Tottenham, or Middlesbrough, and not here.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Mourinho isn't allowed to take over at ANY English club this season. It was in his contract clause.

Anyway, it's not all doom and gloom lads, you'll be favourites in the UEFA Cup next season.

Remember we are the Champions League specialist .. God know what we might do against supposed lesser opponents? (i.e. Luton?)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Don't think Ancelotti is leaving Sabac. We can make 4th spot. Pato arrived and our first game of 2008 was a 5-2 win. We also have a CL chance, especially with Pato now.

He thinks that Crouch and Torres are...wait for it....too similair. As in they both play further forward.

Personally, the last game they played upfront together (Bolton Home) was the only game I seriously thought we would win comftably when i saw the teamsheet and considering the results beforehand (Marseille I think?)

Torres has shown he can play deeper but only really when he receives the ball from deep where he can run at players, not when he has his back turned or being snapped at from behind by eager defenders. He has shown vision on the edge of the box, and has also proven that he can score headers etc

For Rafa Crouch just doesn't 'work the lines' as much as the other two. I think he feels we need a striker upfront to just run around like a headless chicken and confuse the defenders so Torres can waltz past and slot it home.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You mean the Brazilian Ronaldo?

Anyways, Torres and Babel is our best partnership IMO. They have to be at least tried. Their pace will be too difficult for most teams to handle. Babel coming off the left inside, and Torres in the centre. It will work.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Lot of lads banging on about the honour of the club and it not being worth have Mourinho here. For my money, he's just a wum, he was playing to the gallery at Chelsea and taking some of the pressure off his own player. If he was here he'd probably be hammering home the point that we are the greatest club in British football ad nauseum to the press.
What do you think? would you have him run our great club?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hmm, as I said, you'll love him when he's on this side of the fence. He would probably shut off the media who are obsessed with our club. He's great a man management, and instilling some confidence in players. But I think Rafa is a much better tactician (at times), and Mourinho isn't the best when it comes to the transfer market. He can afford to waste 50 million on Ballack and Shevchenko there, but not here.

If Rafa does go, he will be one of my favorites to take the job. But really, I so hope Rafa gets himself sorted, and stops being so stubborn. Rafa is having a real problem in instilling confidence into his players. Pako did it, but ever since he's gone, I don't think Rafa has been able to handle the players well. Plus Rafa needs backing. He knows the players that will do well. Simao, Alves, Villa. These are all world class players, but Rafa needed the backing when they were cheap. Plus he's too stubborn. I don't know. The best thing is to wait, and see where the whole thing is going.

I thought that he doesn't play Crouch more often
due to his negative comments about the rotation
policy earlier on in the season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Why doesn't rafa let Babel start more often? He is one of the best players in the liverpool team if not the best. Torres and Babel from the start woruld be the best striking pair for Liverpool at the moment because everytime liverpool receives the ball and enters the oppositions half the defense of the other team has enough time to move back. This is partly because we have two strikers one is extremely fast and the other always fall behind, hence why liverpool rarely have goals that flow. Babel can almost match the speed of torres so they can keep up with eachother and create goals

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well thats Rafa off in the summer then. Don't think he will put up with that, and can't blame him. We are not spurs FFS!

As for Jose, can't stand him and would hate to have him at Liverpool. On the other hand he has got quality and may be what Liverpool need. He may be tactically the lesser man compared to Rafa, however atm thats what is damaging the team. Its all very well being able to tactically beat the best teams in one off matches, but pulling the same shit against the likes of wigan is ridiculous and is what is costing liverpool the chance for a title.

I can imagine Mourinho being the best option for the premiership with regards to getting the team together and getting results, but a lot of his signings arent good enough and he plays even worse football then Rafa. Chelsea were at their best when the team consisted out of mainly ranieri signings with Mourinho at the helm. The more Mourinho signed the more negative and longball they became.

But not too sure there are any other candidates that are good enough tbh, I wouldnt go near Rijkaard with a bargepoll. He has no control over the players, team. A lot of Barca's succes has been attributed to Ten Cate.

Lippi? Not sure if he is the right person. Ancelotti lets the great players at milan do their job and thats what works. Not sure he is able to get a team toghether to play as he wants and because of his tactics/training get more out of the players then what they would normally do.

Yes i agree rafa`s time is up, dirty dogs , nasty way to run a football club.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Also Hicks has pretty much confirmed that he doesnt have a clue about football and the british media. Lining up another manager because of press rumours?!!? They make it all up anyway!

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wouldn't mind Spaletti, but I don't think his Italian tactics will work here.

@tik, He has also proved why he's friend with Bush. How thick does he have to be to reveal something like that. The media must be jumping after hearing this. Idiots, both of them.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hicks reveales this because he wants rafa to walk out and that looks like it may be on the cards.....

Hicks is a cheeky bastard, I'd be furious if I was Benitez! Absoloutly livid, completely disrespectful!

I'm not happy whatsoever at all this messing around since these American's have been in charge, they're running our club into the dirt.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wouldn't mind Spaletti, but I don't think his Italian tactics will work here.

Well the quick-one-touch-pass-and-move part could
work if he got the right players to do it.

The lone man link up well that's another part
that might be too complicated for the EPL.

Also can't see Spaletti leaving Roma anytime soon.

Martin O'neill name has been mentioned, I like him
great man-management skills which would work a treat
with players like Babel & Torres. But the guy's ability
in the transfer market is what would be the problem.
