Also, Southampton are killing it this window. Lambert, Shaw, Lallana, Lovren - making almost 100m on players that barely cost them anything.

Heard the owner is going to sell all the best players then sell the club though :(

Liverpool close in on Dejan Lovren deal after agreeing £20m fee with Southampton
Croatian defender heading to Merseyside for a medical on Saturday and should complete move this weekend

Liverpool have agreed a £20 million deal with Southampton for defender Dejan Lovren and hope to complete his signing this weekend.

The Croatian defender is now heading to Merseyside for a medical on Saturday, and will also discuss personal terms with the club’s managing director Ian Ayre prior to signing.

There has been some discussion about flying the 25-year-old to the United States to join Liverpool’s summer tour but logistically that is proving difficult.

Brendan Rodgers’s side leave Boston on Saturday morning and will spend little more than 48 hours in their next destinations of Chicago, New York and Charlotte. Loic Remy’s medical in Boston took longer than anticipated as he needed escorting to different venues for tests which are normally straightforward at English clubs.

The capture of Lovren will thrill Rodgers, who made him his main defensive target this summer as he believes he possesses the leadership qualities that have been lacking in his back four since Jamie Carragher’s retirement.

Lovren made it known to Southampton he was desperate to move to Anfield and it has been a negotiating process ever since. Although Liverpool are making no comment, it is understood an initial fee of £16 million is to be paid to the St Mary’s club, with the rest increasing via various add-ons.

Both Remy and Belgium striker Divock Origi have completed their medicals during the club’s visit to Boston, with the French striker now enjoying the extra time off he is due having played in the World Cup.

Remy has gone to New York with his family and will rejoin his team mates later in the tour.

Lovren is the seventh Liverpool signing this summer taking the transfer spending to just below £100 million. Rodgers will now turn his attention to securing full-backs before the start of the season.

Excellent signing IMO.
Lovren adds tremendous depth to the defense.

Defense:
Lovren, Sakho, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Kelly, Flanno, Enrique.

Sakho, Flanno will improve from last season.
I don't think we will be as bad defensively as last year.

In attack:

Sturridge, Sterling, Remy, Lambert, Borini (?)
Markovic,

Lambert gives a plan-B.
Sterling will improve, so will Sturridge...

Midfield:
Gerrard, Coutinho, Hendo, Can, Lallana, Allen, Lucas

GK:
Mignolet,
Reina :)

That's a lot of depth to give a decent go for the EPL and the CL

Defense:
Lovren, Sakho, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Kelly, Flanno, Enrique.

+ Illori and Coates

imo Agger will go if we sign Lovren,

we have two experienced young CB players in Lovren (25) and Sakho (24) and two older CB players in Skrtel and Agger who are close to being 30 both..

i think we should keep Skrtel, just because of his consistency and injury record, wich is better than Agger´s.

Kelly imho is finished in Liverpool FC, Flannagan will play as RB-LB, Enrique has great competition in him for LB and Johnson for RB....that is if we don´t sign Manquillo for covering RB spot or even taking it..cause of Johnson´s form lately..

if we sell Agger or Skrtel, we should keep one of Ilori or Coates at the club..

i´m curious what will Rodgers do.

oh and we still have Kolo ;)

LOL...
I forgot about Kolo !!

No matter what happens, the squad seems stocked up for the multiple challenges coming ahead.

i imagine Lallana playing in midfield like this:

Henderson --- Gerrard -- Lallana

or like this:

------------- Gerrard ------------

Henderson ---------------- Lallana

------------- Coutinho -----------

i think he will start most matches when fit.

Shaqiri turning up again in the gossip, with a 14.2 million pound bid being on the table, apparently. Maybe if the player really wants to come over it could work out but otherwise I think Bayern would be mad to sell for that amount.

Don't see what Shaqiri can offer now. If anything, there is a overpopulation of players there and he wouldn't be guaranteed to be an automatic starter, so, same problem he has at Bayern.

I don't understand what happened with Remy, if it was a medical issue, I'd think that other teams
would have figured out.
Or is it something else?

Anyway, it is disappointing, and I'm hoping we find someone else soon to fill the void
left by Suarez.

Apparently he has a heart condition and has failed medicals before. And maybe the club couldn't get him insured.

The other teams where either not really taking a risk (Newcastle on loan) or were desperate (QPR).

Shame as he seemed like a great buy at that price.

Surely it's not with the cardiac problem that they found out while he was at nice? as surely liverpool must have known about this and done there research before going for him.

Someone w/ a condition ... Shouldn't be so demanding on higher wages. Arsenal were will to take 'em at least he got to visit NY for the week. Liverpool could get Costa £15m. Winger/ST .

Remy had similar problems when going from Nice to Marseille.
Marseille did a second medical and finally they took him...

Origi to Liverpool is also finished according to Belgian press, of course he is loaned back to Lille (which is a very good thing for him).
