We've arguably got the best player in the world right now playing for LFC, and he's just signed a new contract, just after we tonked the pretenders Spurs 5-0 at their hole. We're a win away from being top of the league at Xmas. The team we play tomorrow appear to be in turmoil manager wise. One & possibly two of our nearest rivals will drop points Sunday. And our next opponents (City) have recently lost 2 key players to injury. And all this while two of our best players are out injured. And I just finished today for a 2 wk break at Xmas.
Carlsberg don't do Fridays, but if they did
Seriously, what's not to like about this. Tremendous news.
Oh, and David Moyes is still manager of Man Utd.
Luis Suarez signs new long-term contract with Liverpool FC
Backing of Reds fans helped influence star striker's decision
The Uruguayan striker cited his “special relationship” with Reds supporters as key to him agreeing to pen an extenstion.
The news is a huge boost to Brendan Rodgers ’ high-flying side with Suarez having netted 17 league goals in 11 league games so far this season.
“I am delighted to have agreed a new deal with Liverpool and have my future secured for the long term,” said Suarez.
“We have some great players and the team is growing and improving all the time. I believe I can achieve the ambitions of winning trophies and playing at the very highest level with Liverpool.
"My aim is to help get us there as quickly as possible.
“Without doubt the backing I have received from the Liverpool fans has influenced my decision. I am so proud to represent them and go out to do my best for them every time I pull on the shirt.
“We have a special relationship; they have love for me and in return I love them back. I will always do my best for them and hopefully we can achieve success together.”
Liverpool manager Rodgers added: “This is fantastic news for everyone associated with the club; the team, the owners and most importantly the supporters.
“Luis is a world-class talent and securing his services is crucial for what we are trying to achieve here.
“What’s most important and most exciting is that, at just 26 years old, his best years are still ahead of him and we now know we’ll be seeing him reach that potential in a Liverpool shirt.”
Liverpool's American owners expressed their delight after Luis Suarez signed a new long-term contract with the club.
The Reds principal owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner say the Uruguayan putting pen to paper on fresh terms represents a significant statement of intent.
Suarez wanted out of Anfield in the summer but the club refused to give in to his demands.
After clear-the-air talks he was welcomed back into the first-team fold and has not looked back since.
After serving the final six games of his 10 match ban carried over from last season, Suarez has hit the ground running by bagging 17 goals in 11 games.
Suarez was named captain in Steven Gerrard's absence on Sunday as the Reds thrashed Spurs 5-0.
And now the former Ajax man has given Liverpool fans more reason for cheer by committing himself to the club with a new deal.
Henry said: "We are committed to working hard to keep our best players and this is an indication that we are moving in the right direction and moving at a pace that impresses one of the best players in world football.
"The club has made major strides forward in recent years and we are all committed to delivering the success our supporters want and deserve."
Chairman Tom Werner added: "This demonstrates our commitment, as an ownership group, to building a team that competes at the highest level both in the Barclays Premier League and in Europe.
"Our primary motive is to do what is best for Liverpool Football Club and today's news is another significant step forward on this journey."
