Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I recall us doing well against Chelsea, had the referee had eyes, we could have got a result.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Tony Le Tallec's returned to Liverpool, 'bout time, I wouldn't mind seeing Diarra coming back as well.

RAFA BENITEZ today urged Anthony Le Tallec to make the most of his return to Anfield after ending the youngster's loan spell in France.

Le Tallec's time at St Etienne has ended in time for him to rejoin the Liverpool squad for next Tuesday's trip to Charlton.

Benitez says he was willing to bring Le Tallec back to Merseyside before the injury to

Florent Sinama-Pongolle, but the striker's serious knock increased the urgency to recall players.

"Le Tallec wanted to come back and we've been thinking about it for some time," said Benitez, after both clubs confirmed the 20-year-old's comeback.

"We think it's better for him to be here now. With Flo injured, it makes it even more important for him to return, but we were thinking about this even before he was injured.

"Le Tallec wants to work hard for us, whether he's in the first team or reserves. We don't have a lot of strikers fit so he will have a chance."

After successfully altering his tactics against Watford, Benitez says he'll need another rethink next week due to a one-match suspension to Didi Hamann.

"We decided to use the system against Watford because I knew their left full-back was a very offensive player," explained Benitez.

"By using Milan Baros as an attacking winger we widened the pitch and pushed their defender back.

"It worked in that game, but we may have to reconsider what to do in the next match because we won't have Hamann. He is suspended.

"There is a good opportunity for Igor Biscan. He played well against Watford and he knows he's important because we don't have Xabi Alonso.

"His contract is finished at the end of the season and there are clubs interested in him.

We've made no promises to him about the future, but we're happy he decided to stay with us because we need him.

"After winning, it's better to have some rest. We have time to enjoy the victory. We have an important game at Charlton on Tuesday. We have the same points and know a win will have an impact on the future. We need to do the same as we did at Watford."

The seriousness of Florent Sinama-Pongolle's injury was confirmed today when he was ruled out until August.

Sinama will undergo reconstructive surgery to repair his cruciate ligaments.

After more bad news, there is some light at the end of the tunnel for other players.

"Smicer will play for the reserves on Saturday," confirmed Benitez.

"Josemi should be involved too. I'm not sure if they will be in the squad for Tuesday, but they are getting closer.

"When you have so many long-term injuries it makes it a lot harder to be consistent in your form and that's been a problem."

This is supposed to be a bright side?! I can see all the other teams quaking with that news

Re: Liverpool Thread

Things do look a little bleak when you're looking forward to Smicer and Josemi coming back. Hope Josemi has developed some pace.........

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not even a game live here that I can watch today - not too hot on the old FA cup (hey, not that I care, up the Burnley!) where I am.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The battle for 4th place tonight sees us take on Charlton at the Valley, I wonder how the team will play after having a rest over the weekend

Re: Liverpool Thread

It would be nice to see Nando score his first tonight. I still think we'll finish in the top four as I can't see the blueshite sustaining a challenge. We really need a win tonight to start the push for the end of the season. We need investment for the summer, I just hope it isn't £30million coming from Chelsea.

thats even worse, I remember the days of my youth, long long ago, LFC we're a big team.... now they are battling with charlton, boro and a few others for 4th place....

Re: Liverpool Thread

Thank God they came back and won that match. I had the matchtracker on at work and if you just saw the stats you woulda thought Pool woulda been up 4-0 or something. . .

. . ok, how crazy does it seem to believe that Liverpool have a solid chance of winning out their next 6 games. . .Their schedule for the rest of the season looks pretty promising for them going on a run for that 4th spot and keeping it.

If we carry on playing like we did last night then we will be in 4th place come the end of the season. Charlton hit us with a sucker punch in the 1st half but from then on it was all Liverpool.

Good to see Mori get on the score sheet with what was a great first goal, the guy is class

Re: Liverpool Thread

Alou Diarra- What the hell happened to him? I saw him playing for France against Ireland and looked pretty good. Don't you think it might have been a good idea to recall him, considering the injury to Alonso?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Bit of a Jekyll & Hyde performance today...but the important thing is 3 points, now 4 behind the Toffeenoses.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well done the 'pool, we're well on the way to 4th. Might even watch Match of the Day tonight!

Yes but Southampton are now a different prospect under Redknapp.

Was a good win today, Morientes set us on the road but I cant believe we let Andrew Cole score (I remember when he used to be Andy.) Its looking good for us at the moment and with some of those injuries clearing up we could well beat the Toffees to 4th place

I can remember when he used to play for Bristol (it was City wasn't it??), Newcastle and Man U. How the mighty have fallen (there again, without looking it's quite possible that Fulham are above Newcastle at the mo).

Re: Liverpool Thread

Cole IS still a good player. He is 32 now and still playing for a decent team in the premiership. Not bad for a 32 year old.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Bit touchy aren't we? He's still good, just not AS good. Anyway, I'm happy the Toffees have dropped points today (scraped a point against the Saints). Only 5 points now.
