Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

So have any friendlies been announced yet? Interested to see how they set the team up this year and how the new style will develope.

Re: Liverpool Thread

From what I remember you were set to go on a North American tour as follows:

21 July - vs Toronto FC (Blue Jay Stadium)
25 July - vs AS Roma (Boston Red Sox Stadium)
28 July - vs Tottenham (Baltimore Stadium)

Then at Anfield

12 Aug vs Bayer Leverkusen

But in between (around the 2nd or 9th) you will have UEFA Europa League matches.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Has Gaston Ramirez signed for LFC yet?
Many sites are reporting that it is a done deal, yet to be official though ...

Re: Liverpool Thread

In Italy there aren't many rumours about him heading to Liverpool. Bologna's president said he'd only let him go for over £10m. I think he's talented, but fuck, £20m for him is ridiculous!

Re: Liverpool Thread

I just read somewhere that Bologna bought him for just £2m and I also find it ridiculous to pay £20m for him, even though I haven't watched him play a lot, just seen a few matches and I think he'd fit perfectly in Liverpool but his pricetag makes him a bit overrated and I don't want him to be the next in line of those who couldn't live up to their pricetag.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Some bits from the press conference today:

BR: "We've made 3 or 4 enquires and will hopefully complete one deal this week, maybe two."

BR: I won't be bringing in many players - we don't have wheelbarrow of money and want to help the group

He was asked about possible approaches for Carroll, which have been rumoured in the press. BR said he had spoken to Andy and he knows where he is - if you scroll down you ccan see exactly what he said.

It was not a total - 'he's a key part of my thinking' answer

Ben Smith ‏@BenSmithBBC
Off camera, Rodgers said #LFC fans would find one potential new player 'incredibly exciting' - 'they'll love him'

Re: Liverpool Thread

Brendan Rodgers today revealed he is hopeful of bringing in his first signing as Liverpool manager before embarking on this summer's pre-season tour.

The Reds will depart for North America next week and the boss is optimistic he will have completed his first piece of incoming transfer business at Anfield before then.

Asked whether he was confident of adding to his squad before the Standard Chartered-presented tour, Rodgers told reporters at a press conference: "We hope so, but there certainly won't be as many (signings) as what's being labelled out there.

"For players to be associated with Liverpool is great, but the reality is we've only made three or four enquires about players and we hopefully can close out one deal this week, maybe two.

"We're certainly hopeful we can do one and then look to add to it over the course of the pre-season.

"I will never speak about targets and possible players. It's not something I like to do. All I will say is there has been a whole raft of players linked with coming to Liverpool, and there are very, very few of them that are actually real targets for us."

Rodgers added: "Initially, it's just about assessing the group, the squad and looking at the strengths, which you never know entirely until you come in. The pre-season is a little bit broken this year because of players being away for the championships and recovering.

"But certainly, come the beginning of the season I hope to have the squad that we can take through. Obviously after August, that's it through until January. It'll be a case of piecing it together through until then and building a squad that can hopefully compete at the top end of the league. That's ideally what I want to do."

Rodgers was also quizzed by reporters about the possibility of players leaving the club over the coming weeks.

On newspaper speculation that has linked Andy Carroll with a loan move to AC Milan, the manager said: "He's a good player, Andy, so he'll always be linked whether he's here or not.

"I've spoken to Andy on his holidays. He knows exactly where he stands. I've had the chance to speak to a lot of the players.

"He is a very good young player and, like I said, he will be linked with clubs because he is such a good player.

"I haven't had anything (enquiries) from them (AC Milan) at all."

Meanwhile, asked about the future of Joe Cole and Alberto Aquilani, both of whom spent the 2011-12 season out on loan, Rodgers said: "Both players are back. I had a good chat with Alberto the other day.

"He's a good guy. It obviously hasn't really worked out for him as of yet, but he's a player who's got the quality in terms of technical and tactical ability to play.

"But what's going to be important for every player is that they have the steel and mindset to play. It will be very important and that's something I'll find out over the course of pre-season about all the players."

Craig Bellamy has also been the subject of transfer rumours - and Rodgers confirmed he has held talks with the striker.

"I had a good meeting with Craig, last Monday, and was just getting the feel for where he was at," he said. "I've known Craig for a little while and we had a good open conversation.

"He's 33 later this week and so he knows he's pushing on in age a little bit, but he's fine. He looks after himself well.

"I'll speak with him over the course of the summer and we'll take it from there."

Re: Liverpool Thread

Reading in between the lines..

So Carroll looks like he may be gone...

Aquilani is respected by Rodgers....will be given a chance...
but depends on how much he can survive...

Does'nt sound good for Downing or Henderson....lacking a lot of steel.

Fabio Borini is likely (note likely) to become Rodgers' first signing as #LFC manager. Deal not done yet though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good signing if it happens. Extremely hard working striker that presses defenders very heavily.

You wish we wanted Carroll. If it ever happens, I'll shit bricks.

Didi Hamann ‏@DietmarHamann
How was first day training Joseph? When I heard QPR making major announcement I thought you may have been arrested again

Borini will be good...sounds like a typical Rodgers player.

Carroll....please Milan...take him.....but would prefer
someone signing him....instead of Milan's shady loan deals :-)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Borini and Dempsey seem to be the two players that Rodgers was on about, both seem pretty useful signings if true.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Great news. I fucking love Jonjo, hope he has more opportunities this season. It is time.

don´t belive nothing untill it´s realy done to be honest...

Borini was signed just now by Roma full time.. and Dempsey would be great move, but at right price...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Borini's arrival makes sense. He was with Rodgers at Chelsea, then with him at Swansea for a while and won promotion to the premiership.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Borini and Dempsey would be two good signings...

Shelvey is a good player...he has more steel than the likes
of Downing/Henderson....

I think it is Shelvey who could be the future Gerrard....
and not Henderson......Shelvey has a much more aggressive
attitude and is more confident and attack-minded.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think the Media's making another non-sense reading: "Football: Rodgers won't rule out Carroll loan". Well he said everyone, including Andy, COULD be sent on loan, which is true for all young players except the ones like Gerrard & Carragher.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Borini seems a very exiting young player who can only get better, he'd fit perfectly upfront with Suarez ... I only fear the fact that we don't have a good experience with Italian players but since he's played for Chelsea and Swansea in the past I think he's already used with EPL.
Should we sign him for the right price 7-8M, I'd be very happy but I don't think Borini is the players Rodgers was talking about when he said that the fans will love him.

I would be very surprised if neither Borini nor Dempsey won't sign for us this week. It could be a BR surprise from outta nowhere who knows ...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Borini would be amazing replacement of Kuyt, so would be Sturridge...

Shelvey for me is more Xabi Alonso than Gerrard tbh.. he has Gerrard´s movement, but not his skills combined with power and speed... he is very ingeligent on passing ball and creating chances though...at least it´s my opinion of him...

Dempsey is realy universall attacking player wich we could realy use a lot next season and beyound that...

Carroll and any of our players - senior and youth won´t go anywhere untill Rodgers will see them in pre-season tour.
