I defend like you described a few pages back. I NEVER press the ‘foot-in’ button. I hold the bumper (jockey I think its called?) and keep position with left stick. In this FIFA I gave a penalty away with this method because the CPU tripped over my standing leg. Looked so realistic when it happened - it was a debatable penalty but the way the CPU forward did a step over and then used my player’s leg to win the penalty looked so cool. I saved the resulting penalty too!
I wouldn't exactly call myself a PES fan, I found 18-20 a lot better than the same year's FIFA, but to me FIFA 22 looks like more of the same.

I just edited the player controlled team (1.FC Köln) by going in each player's individual stats (dribbling and agility) and set them to 1, as you can't access them via sliders. So you can compare the edited and regular team directly in one match.
Haha I'm playing on World class with West Ham. I've won my recent games pretty easy I feel, scoring 3-4 goals, I'm 9-2-2. I switched to semi, everything but lob passes, but as I said earlier Semi is almost like assisted, Fifa 20 was much harder in that aspect playing on semi ground passes. Here assisted and semi is almost identical. But my game vs Man city last night felt totally different and my winning streak came to an end losing 2-0, almost like I played on much harder difficulty haha it was a big difference to other teams I've played, only Man United did play similar and that's only game I restarted 3 times(at the start of my career conceding 3-4 goals vs them) winning 3-2 in a complete turnaround haha was thinking of switching to legendary but man city game made me think again, or I'll maybe put pass error a bit higher for q better feel, try it out. Will see how it goes vs Chelsea in my next game and decide..won against Liverpool 3-1 yesterday before the loss to man city.
Chris, I saw you also mentioning the passing. I just replied to hitmanuk regarding that and World class difficulty. Semi passing really is almost identical to assisted, at least the ground passes, started to feel pretty easy in some games on World class before I lost to Man city. It was like a completely different game. Thinking of switching to legendary or just bump up the passing error try it out. Or maybe it's best to try take the PL title first and then change haha I'm up there with City and Liverpool after 14 games, one point difference. Would like semi to be more loose like Fifa 20's passing was, brings better feel and gameplay. Don't know why they tuned it or maybe it's an issue in the game..

I can't really disagree with you - and we all want the things you want. Where we are isn't good enough when you consider the tech, the things that could be happening, and the things they could attempt. But this is the real world, sadly.
I begrudgingly accept that EA will probably only ever make one game and try to satisfy all gamers. For the rest of my life, it's going to be a balance of barely any realism, and FUT shit. (Currently, you boot FIFA and some anime stadium banners are advertised to you...)
So imagine my shock when the balance has moved slightly, SLIGHTLY, in our favour from a realism point-of-view. It barely makes sense!
I can only play PES 5 or FIFA 16 (my benchmarks) for so long before I go, actually, I need a change. Even FIFA 16 has got to the point where I often find myself thinking "so many 0-0s, I'm old, I want a tiny bit of a thrill even if it means sacrificing some realism".
Though obviously not to a silly degree (to me, 22 isn't a silly degree, but to you, I know it is).
The way I see it, I'm in the Sahara and desperate for water. (I play football games, and only football games, and I want to play a new one.) Every day, I've been offered a different glass of nails from Konami with a different date on the glass, and a glass of slugs from EA. This year, Konami's offering is just broken glass. EA's is murky water.
While you're waiting for distilled mountain water that's crisp and refreshing (because you're not desperate - you're not in the Sahara), I'll take the step in the right direction. I am surprised I can enjoy it, but it turns out, I can.
We all have absolute "musts" - mine is some variety in the AI. Give me that and it turns out I can notice, but not be bothered by, a lot of things.

Yes, other values may be effective as well. Just took these two because they are the most obvious and it works very well at PES, too. And the trial clock was ticking...

What do you use on manual for these passes? L1+O? L1+ /\? Or just O?one time i had Neuer spotting Werner up front... for a very long high ball... ball gets down behind the opponents defensive line, Werner putting in top gear and running like hell... 1on1 with the keeper... he did not score!
like in the other games i played, switching sides is a thing i really like to do a lot because the ball in the air (when animated properly) is a beauty to watch plus you are forcing the AI team out of shape a bit.
same with long high balls behind the defense (when i want Sane to shine and hes making a run for it already...).

This might look similar to F21 when you watch the clips - I thought that myself.
But when you play it and find the right settings - its a whole different level.
I dare to say that AI is more varied and unpredictable than it was even on F16.
F16 AI was solid, smart, but to a point - predictable. They were doing what you would normally do.
Here, on multiple occasions, I was expecting a shot when they passed the ball, or the other way around. They dribble, they shoot from distance, they'll cut you down if you are open on goal (like good old days).
This feels like Fifa 16.2 AI and for this alone - this is one of the best football games released in good few years.
It might not be a looker and skating might still be there, but damn - it plays good!
