FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

As much as I like it. I’m waiting until Christmas. We will definitely know by then if we still have a playable game and the sales for Fifa are always good at Christmas. There’s no way I’m spending $100 on a game for it to be patched and useless within a week or two.
I have a massive back log to get though before then also. I am surprised how enjoyable it was though.

But those player stats in your Career Mode squad really annoy me...

Some fucking Diamond

Squad Sheet looks like my 7 year old daughters drawing... just chaos!
Who thought putting so much shit into it was a good idea is beyond me..

Laughed at "some fucking diamond" - I still don't understand its function!

I've spent way too much time analysing my relationship with this game recently. I want to love it but just can't.

The visual novelties have worn off and I'm back to the Tele camera. Commentary has been switched off. All cut scenes, replays skipped immediately. Is that my fault? Do I expect too much? What do I even want?

Away from the game it's still just all so perfunctory. With FIFA 18 my point of reference, I like the development plans and the ability to retrain position. But apart from that it's too familiar. But again, is that my fault? Do I expect too much? What do I even want?

Not sure it's worth this mental torment. So, over the course of the day, I look forward to watching your clips and reading your joy and getting excited before switching it on and finding none of it myself.

And then the same tomorrow.

And Thursday...

I really need the trial to run out to put me out of my misery! 😄

Give it a try on Friday! ;)

i agree, the career mode icons on the player cards are a bit much. cant find any detailed info on those symbols online. all i found was some info on perks and stuff.

There's always one [optimist], and it's usually you!

Wherever my mind ends up, I can still acknowledge that they're moving in the right direction.

There is a lot to like about FIFA 22 and that evident in the reaction here and in the critical reception. Also, dare I say, I haven't seen that much negativity from the 'game should be a game' crowd, apart from the odd high-profile incident like our Ajax e-sports friend. So hopefully EA stays on this new (old) path.

for now, it looks like it, i agree.
Even if the other game (the one with the 3 letters) would be around this year, in a similar fashion to the Season Update from last year, i would've tried PS5 FIFA! even if there was no trail, i would've bought it by now... and for more than testing purposes.
I dont have high hopes of EA bringing even more sim aspects to the game via updates, but i sure pray for them not destroying whats layed out here with version 001!

I thought it was only me that finds this diamond a complete mystery...
I was always too embarrassed to ask!

I think this game can be perceived very differently by a lot of people.
Depending on the mode you are playing, settings, team, league, even tactics..
It took me a while to settle.

Trial doesnt really help, coz at the back of your mind you know the clock is ticking and you dont really want to start any proper mode. You are just constantly experimenting, without letting yourself to sit back and enjoy.

I settled at the absolute bottom of football. Dont know why, but I find these dreadful, scrappy games really enjoyable.
Last night I had 17(!) shots and only 3 on target, red card for AI and a penalty (which GK saved) and two injuries in one match - both of them my strikers, so I'll be forced to have midfielders up front now.

Player career is also quite fun. Never played it before coz you could never come in as a sub, which was putting me off altogether.

If you are on the fence - give it some time, see how it develops and then maybe grab it on some deal.

Does anyone have issues with Low Shots on manual? Im pressing both bumper buttons, which is supposed to be a daisy cutter, but they usually go high🤔

Diamonds, sharpness, how very clever EA. That's the kind of wit you can buy with £4bn a year. It dictates the plus and minus numbers as far as I can tell? But I don't know what those plus and minuses mean. Is that the players OVR, after the stats increases or decreases have been applied?

In the trial I settled on a Career Mode with Sutton United and I've played a few hours. I only ever play Career Mode, and usually do an 'easier' one with Aberdeen and/or Union Berlin, and a more difficult one with the worst team in League Two and/or the entire game. But my heart sank when I explored the menus and saw the same transfer market and youth academy I left years ago.

Player Career could be something. I loved Be A Pro in 09, 10 and 11. It could be a break from a staleness I'm partly to blame for creating!

This is one of the best footy games I've played in years.

I'm really shocked and surprised EA have come up with this as i was expecting them to move away from single play. Ive written a list of pros and cons from my sessions so far.

Pros

A.I - This is the best AI we have been given for many many years, make no mistake. It is very , very good all across the pitch. The CPU, even on professional keeps me guessing constantly. They don't default to default patterns of play. In previous Fifas if the CPU got the ball wide and they were a wide playing team they'd just cross it, if they weren't they'd dribble into the box. This time the player on the ball assesses the situation. If he has good crossing options he will do it, if not he might lay it off or hold up the ball. I even saw him hold the ball up waiting fro attackers to join him then lay it off on the edge of the area for a first time shot. Its bloody fantastic.

But I've also seen mistakes from the AI too, natural ones. Keepers dropping the ball, coming for crosses and missing them, players trying first time passes and kicking it out of play. I scored a goal with Jota, I crossed it and the Brighton defender only flicked it with his head as it was too high, Jota was coming in blind side and as he tried to strike the ball it hit his knee and then shoulder and bobbled into the net. The keeper was brilliant, totally flat footed as he expected the shot but the double ricochet sent him the wrong way. brilliant stuff.

Ball physics - Best to date. Could do with the driven passes being a touch toned down but the ball moves in the air, curls, spins and bobbles.

Hypermotion - This truly works. Its not 100% perfect but the range of animations is staggering. Its crazy how they've done it. Theres obviously tons of calculations going on which determines how the player reacts to a situation, looks organic for the most part.

Shooting - Never seen so many variations in shots. Low shots, scuffs, thunderbastards, curlers, tap ins, the lot. never score the same goal twice.

Net Physics - Super sexy net physics. So satisfying scoring a goal as the ball ricochets around the net. I liked Pes 21 nets apart from the fact the ball kept coming out of the net EVERY SHOT, that doesn't happen here, works perfectly.

Presentation - Playing at Anfield is a joy, crowd and atmosphere is spot on. Kits look great and night lighting looks awesome.

Cons

Players feel a little skate still. Not a game breaker or anything, I just think they need that little extra step when turning.

Player models - Still don't look realistic enough. They still look a bit elongated but look ace at certain heights on your camera or close up

Dribbling - its much better than what it was but I think it needs stripping back a little as players don't tend to be able to move slightly backwards a lot of the time and move the ball with them, it might be just because they are trying to implement so many ball juggling possibilities.

Loss of licenses to Konami - The italian teams a re a big loss, for me especially. Total waste going to that bag of crap efootball.

Women's football - I don't mind this mode but the players look smaller than ever? Maybe its just me? The ball looks big compared to the women.

After many hours in Career Mode on this (Legendary, a few slider tweaks) I have to say it's the best FIFA on Frostbite (which isn't difficult to achieve really as I hated most of them  )

It's a joy to play. Yes it's got faults. The lack of fouls is ridiculous, I started a Wolves career yesterday and it took until 3rd game of Premier League season (bearing in mind I played all the pre-season matches) until the prompt appeared explaining free kicks. It took that long to get a foul around the opposition area. It's also still too fast, even on slow. Not as bad as FIFA 21 and sliders fix this. Someone here mentioned that it felt faster last few days - I disagreed but after playing more, they might be onto something. Maybe it's my tired eyes this morning.

The ball physics are sublime. Scoring goals has me jumping out of my seat at times. Presentation is exceptional, as always. New commentary team is crap, really crap. Sometimes they don't say anything for 5 minutes (exaggeration but you catch my drift). Bring back Tyler and Smith.

Anway, year after year I've said that I don't need ultra realism. I just want a deep, rewarding, challenging Career Mode. And boy, is this difficult! What did EA do?! I'm on Legendary and have lost all 3 out of 4 of my Premier League matches so far. There's a lot to learn with this game.

I love it. Finally, a good single player football game. And we deserve it after the absolute shit we've been served up by both EA and Konami for years now.

no problem here! pressing L1 (mod/player switch) and R2 (my close control, wich i swapped with R1 before, wich is now sprint)) gives me the daisy cutters!

when i was changing my power bar from 65 to 60 (you gave me that idea), i had a different feeling when passing (as you discribed it). and you said as well, that it tanslates to the shots too; and it does. never had the feeling of shooting to many over the crossbar but anyway... i can produce some lovely low shots now (even without daisy cutter button combo).
say, does that translate to crosses too? because they are more accurate now. i think a bit less power applied due to the change from 65 to 60 is really making a difference for me. a small one but i can sense it! thx.

Finally bit and bought off ''cheap'' (SEK 350 instead of kr 600) from a kid on Facebook who accidentally bought it for series x instead of his xbox one. Happy to profit from Microsoft's convoluted marketing.

Hello!

if i get ea play now…can i play fifa 22 for 10 hours free? Or was it only before release?
well, it only states: a 10 hour trail is available for EAplay members starting Sept. 22nd!
that reads to me like you can still try it out. should even be possible in, lets say, january. if i am a EAplay memeber in Jan. and i want to test it before buying... why not!?

this is no confirmation, just my 2 cents.

say, does that tranalte to crosses too?
I think it affects anything where power is applied, so yeah, crosses too.

I have to say - never, in any football game, have I seen such beautiful crosses and curves on the ball when passing. Not even on Pes. Ever.
I know Fifa ball physics might be odd at times, but my god - corners, free kicks and crosses are absolutely magnificent.
When you whip it into penalty area it has such energy and trajectory that it really looks like on TV.

alright. makes sense! stepping that value down a bit is a blessing for my manual gameplay. :) i might up it to 62 later, but need more time with 60 first.

i wouldt go that far... but yes... i've seen some beautiful organic trajectories too... :APPLAUD:
wish these shining moments would be more consistent all over the game. anyway... still i enjoy what i have here!

when is that 002 patch coming to consoles?! any idea?! this week?

No, it's one of the pre-season friendly tournaments.

I honestly think if you're asking that question, then the answer's "yes", because you want to be playing the best version of the game and you wouldn't be asking if you couldn't afford it.

It's not just better graphics, it's different (more realistic) gameplay.

At least, it is right now. Pray they don't make it into a FUT player's dream in the first official patch.
Is it possible to just boot the unpatched game if you have disc and not update the game on console?

i wouldt go that far
Pes crosses were always stiff, especially the ones where you had a free kick outside penalty area and you wanted to cross the ball for headers. Ball had no energy. And when you put too much power - you were simply overshooting.
Here, due to the aiming target, you can apply a lot of power and they will whip it in with force. Get a good technical player and he will add a spin to it.
Its a whole different experience. Set pieces are fantastic here.

Sounds very promising. Are you a recent Pes player? Cause i cant read reviews from fifa players as its different taste. I always been a pes player…hated all fifa games even 21. Havent been happy with last couple of pes games, but found enjoyment in them anyway. U think there is a chance i will actually like fifa 22?

Yeah, crosses and long balls are such a beauty. The ones from the touch line to me in particular, between the physics and that beautiful animation with the player slightly, naturally hunching, feels so damn satisfying.
one time i had Neuer spotting Werner up front... for a very long high ball... ball gets down behind the opponents defensive line, Werner putting in top gear and running like hell... 1on1 with the keeper... he did not score! :D

like in the other games i played, switching sides is a thing i really like to do a lot because the ball in the air (when animated properly) is a beauty to watch plus you are forcing the AI team out of shape a bit.
same with long high balls behind the defense (when i want Sane to shine and hes making a run for it already...).

Honestly, I don't think there is a chance. 21 was awful and I think most of us would agree with that, but we've found some level of enjoyment (even if only briefly) from previous versions. It still has a FIFA feel to movement etc. and modern PES fans seem to hate that basic feel (I don't exactly love it, but I can put up with it to enjoy the AI and the general variety).

I totally get why people wouldn't like this game, because I feel the same way about every PES since 2017. Whatever the improvements are to PES, even with mods, the stiffness and the God-awful one-dimensional boring AI means I just can't play it. So I get it - because whatever FIFA improves, it still "feels" like FIFA.

This is defo the best fifa ive played in a long time. Offline and online. Waay less skills moves online which is a huge improvement.

Really enjoying this

That's it. I just... It's that spider-crawl FIFA movement... every PES bone in my body screams at the sight. The feel of it through the controller... Nails down a blackboard.

Still enjoying this game where I've played enough now to start getting annoyed at the AI's attack pattern. They seem to fast-switch it around the box 90% of the time, in a wide semi-circle (following the same kind of arc as the penalty area's D), working their way to the opposite side which will be light on defenders if you've allowed your panic to drag too many defenders out of position. Then a shot from the near post on that other side. Sliders have helped this (slow pass speed down for both sides), as has simply being more disciplined.

I always try FIFA every year and always do like it – football game fan likes a football game shocker – but always get distracted by PES and never come back to FIFA. This year, well, we all know about this year. I'm still one of those crazy people waiting to give eFootball a proper chance, but FIFA22 is a great insurance policy.
