FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

Fifa 22 just takes me back to a time when football where just enjoyable.Times when playability was king, where it felt great to score goals and when control interface’s felt smooth and responsive.A time when the AI was interesting and engaging.

The pendulum sits nicely between game and simulation. It’s like a modern WE or ISS.I get that same feeling from back in the day when I used to boot up a cd Rom or cartridge.

Everytime I play it I’m left suprised, there’s just a organic quality here that’s been missing from football games for to long.

The heart of this game is the AI.The intelligent movement, runs that just have you on the edge of your seat. The passing and ball physics are also a world away from previous FIFA’s and just cement/reinforce how good the AI is.

I needed this I really did.Playability is back on the menu and it’s made me realise just how boring football games had become. This is modern football with old school values.

Anyone have any sound glitches on the series x (or in general?). I can't describe what I'm hearing but the sound glitches for like a second

speaking of sound.... to the guys on PS5... have you activated the 3D Audio for TV speakers yet?! did you do the room measurement?!
if not, go give it a try! :D

btw: i set my accessibility slider to 5 (brightness) and 8 (contrast). gives the best picture on my TV. more saturated colors, less grey overlay.
i could change brightness a notch to 4 (even better looking turf), but this makes dark materials (like Lewas hair) look messy. i tinkered with both sliders and tried to work out a good combination. 5/8 is where i landed.

Sounds very promising. Are you a recent Pes player? Cause i cant read reviews from fifa players as its different taste. I always been a pes player…hated all fifa games even 21. Havent been happy with last couple of pes games, but found enjoyment in them anyway. U think there is a chance i will actually like fifa 22?
Yes, I’ve bought PES every year since ISS except for PES 2008, PES 2010 and PES 2012 (the dark days I call them).

But don’t buy this expecting PES-like gameplay. It’s completely different.

Reading some stuff about dodgy transfers in career mode. How is everyone finding them?

I've started a Leeds career but I've switched them off for the first window.

I’d say it has more in common with classic pes then modern.Swinging more towards the ISS series by Konami’s other division.

But even then that’s a slight injustice because the AI has more variety and IMO this game is more organic then most pes fans could only dream of(and I am one).

Fifa will never get the appreciation it deserves. So many are still locked into the perception pes and its ageing animation system is more realistic, conveys inertia better and adheres more to the fundamentals of the sport.I also think a little of it boils down to the art style and more rigid gameplay.Perceptions also that fifa is more arcade/casual.The game that is brought by the masses.

That said IMO parallels can be drawn here with pes 20/21.It’s just not locked down with scripting, predictable AI and limited passing, shooting angles and variation. The theory is the same but the execution and AI is simply on another level.

Edit. The lack of fouls or calls from the refs ultimetly pull it down,as does the odd animation oddity or frequency of physicality which is brilliant when it is there.

Im loving this game more and more. When you find your sweet spot with sliders and settings - its so organic! Some passes are Straight Outta Match Of The Day..
Its still Frostbite Fifa, but they did so well this year to make it play like this against AI. Its so fun!

But those player stats in your Career Mode squad really annoy me...

Squad Sheet looks like my 7 year old daughters drawing... just chaos!
Who thought putting so much shit into it was a good idea is beyond me..
What is your sweet spot with sliders? I’m wondering about FUMA as I used to play PES 2017/18 with manual passing. But using Matt10’s sliders it feels really hard to gauge whether it’s my bad aim, pass/shot error or the changing camera angles that are letting me down. Also I find the lack of movement and the slower passing a bit more of an issue when I’m already at more of a disadvantage. I haven’t looked into whether there are manual slider sets and I don’t know what the FUMA crowd are using for that offline…

Agree on some of that screen clutter too - just show one OVR adjusted for form & positioning, and only show me any of this diamond / face stuff if it’s a problem. I don’t need to be told that first team regulars aren’t lacking match practice!

I dont know if my sliders will fit your game, as I noticed that sliders perception highly depends on what team and what league are you playing.
I created my own team, with worst stats available and play in irish league.

My sliders are based on Matts set, but I always adjust them to fit full manual settings.
Sprint - 39/39
Acc - 49/49
Shot error - 60/70
Pass error - 60/70
Shot speed - 50/50
Pass speed - 40/30
Injury Freq - 80/80
Injury Sev - 50/50
Gk ab - 49/49
Marking - 70/70
Run Freq - 10/10
Line Height - 60/60
Line width - 50/50
FB posit - 60/60
First touch error - 90/90
Power bar - 60

I need to slow down AI ping pong passing and reduce their pass speed, otherwise its unbalanced and looks silly when I play slow football with error, while AI ping pongs around

Edit - my stats at the end are nicely balanced. This is my average stats, it always quite similar

Ps. Im The Lions. So as you can see - AI pass accuracy is still higher but not by much. And im getting few free fouls each match. Very rarely give them away tho... :/

As for Aiming - its the new camera. I have the same issues. It reminds me off Pes Stadium Camera, where aiming was a bit awkward at the start. Im getting used to it now.

I finally got a 0-0 on FIFA last night, must be my first in about 2/3 years.
Playing career with Villa and drew 0-0 away to Chelsea, and most of all did this by playing deep and parking the bus.

So least you can now play for draws unlike FIFA 21 no matter how you set your team out it would end 6-4.

@Emroth's post above has just reminded me, slightly concerned about something.

If you up your pass error to 100 and first touch error to 100, do you see any difference at all (apart from a very, very, very occasional "glitch" pass where the AI just sort of lifts the ball off the ground a little and the ball doesn't travel)?

I want to figure out if Legendary just completely overwrites sliders by all accounts, or if it's a cross-difficulty issue on next-gen. On Legendary, I don't see any difference from altering those sliders. But I'm working for the forseeable future...

Playing full manual, I set the pass error to 50, so it’s my fault with the sticks mostly.
Shot error I set to 55 for a little thrill. :)

I will probably get into this eventually but it doesn't seem to be happening in the trial period. Right now I have a hard time finding balance in the difficulty, I get hammered on Professional but I hold the hammer on the difficulty below... Then there is the manual stuff, right now I have assisted shots but manual passing, I tried to go back to semi assisted passing but although I don't actively hate assisted like I do in PES it never quite feels right either.
I don't know if it's the sliders but I don't really get bothered by the AI fast passing anymore, if anything bothers me about it is when they start passing the ball around inside the box, most football teams actually try to get a shot off when that close to a goal, instead of trying to string 3-4 more passes together, it's a bit like playing against an annoyingly skillful human who wants to walk the ball into the net to show how good he is.
If I get desperate for more footy over the next days I will likely take the plunge and just spend time to learn it properly.

Really enjoying this but so frustrating at the same time. The defensive line dropping so deep their basically sat on the GK on every attack by the CPU and the lack of effort defensively by any midfielders is really winding me up.
Tried changing tactics of the defensive line but then they end up so high CPU just plays one twos around me but even then when I manage to get back the defence drops so deep when in the 18 yard box 🤬🤬🤬

The AI definitely hits a lot of first time balls and shots when it’s in front of goal. And if you cut out the spaces for it to pass into in the box it will certainly find more creative ways to score.Try not to lose the compactness of your back line and use your central midfielders to do a lot of the tidying up.Any tiny pockets of space will be exploited time and time again. It’s just knowing when to press the ball, timing a tackle or maintaining shape.Cover the spaces or danger areas passes are played into and more often then not the AI will simply have nowhere to go.I do a lot of blocking of passing lanes and channels and there’s a huge amount of predicting runs and movement and making sure potential danger is covered.Constant spamming of the buttons, pressing or quick passes forward will result more often then not in the cpu literally taring you a new one(even on professional).

Stick with it.I reckon after a few hard play sessions it will click. The long ball is the stuff of dreams as is hitting teams on the break.

CPU has been hammering in some screamers fro 25 yards. I also have a commentary error when playing in CM he will announce the game you are currently playing as a game coming up next week.

i saw my defensive line got dragged deep by an AI striker sometimes. so i sat down and had a look at the tactics menu.
when i was missing my digi-cross movement of the whole team (the other game had it), i found a solution when setting up the individual tactics (deep defensive, defensive, offensive, full offensive). i set up those 4 tactics (including the regular one that is set as normal) in detail to be able to switch my team to be more offensive or defensive and i use them for a couple of days now.
so what i do during a match, i really try to conquer with these tactics multiple times during a match. the system is slowly growing on me.

just as an example: full offensive has my team at a 100 pitch height, 60 wide, constant runs forward, fast build up and as many players as possible in the pen box! this really is my extreme setting; i use when there is nothing to loose... or something to win (like with a 1 goal difference)!

Shooting from outside the box is the best way to score in FIFA this year..
Precision shots from outside the box tend to always go in if not blocked by a defender.

Ive not started a career yet but that sounds absolutely horrendous... What does +3 and -7 and the exclamation marks mean?

Ok, called it a pile of shit earlier after playing a few games.
Still feels like Fifa, and auto switching on defense - which works especially good on 16 - doesn't seem to work at all.
This means continuously manual switching, meaning i'm sometimes late or picking the wrong defender. That really sucks.

Other than that, on the ps5 it plays really smooth. Pace is good although slower is always better.
Lot of short variety which is pretty damn good.
Love the crosses.

So, i just bought this pile of shit :D

Something really weird happened yesterday playing CM. I scored a 3rd goal vs Liverpool, 1st half, in extra time and instead of a goal referee whistled for halftime 😄never have I seen this before. Thought for a sec it was offside but no, result was still 2-1, I even checked the stats. Must be a last sec Bug haha also there's lag sometimes in 2nd half, I've seen others mentioning it aswell , didn't have it since early trial but happened last night in one game. Hope they fix it! I mean it's offline..

Exclamation mark is player out of position.
He can be in very bad position (red mark) or slightly awkward for him (orange)
If they play out of position - there are points deducted from their stats (the minus thingy). Depends how bad he feels, his current form and position will deduct more or less points.
So CM playing as DM will only drop by, lets say, 3. But if you put CAM as a DM - he can drop by 8.
Its all good mechanics in theory (even tho id like to see more points being deducted, coz its a bit unbalanced towards extra points). So the idea is great, but there's just too much of this.
I dont need to know how many points you took from him, is he sharp, happy, his form going up or down... its all cluttered on one screen together.
Just tell me his OVR (post point deduction) and maybe one smiley or sad face like in Pes. Thats would be enough.
Im supposed to be a manager, not a shrink..

What I love about PES is sometimes it randomness and unpredictabiliy. Is this present in the new Fifa?

Just came here to post the same thing. Had some amazing matches this afternoon - my bosses will fire me if they find out I’m playing FIFA 22 instead of building their database

The variety in this is so refreshing, has that ‘just one more match’ vibe the classic PES games had.
