FIFA 17 News & Discussion Thread

My son bought it for a good price with a vouche included on PS4.
I´ve watched him play and then played a few matches against him.
When I watched him play, I enjoyed the visuals and atmosphere a lot.
Before I played this game (been playing a lot of PES recently) I made myself clear "You are playing FIFA now!".
And that´s what you have to do, when you know both games.
I was just playing it, not thinking what is missing from the other game or comparing it to that.
That´s how I enjoyed it. Of course, there a few things that look and feel ugly like a 180° turn pass or a strange transition from one animation to another, but all in all I enjoyed it a lot.
At least playing it 1vs1 on one console.

I feel like going deeper on it, but right now I´m not that much in a need to do so.
Gonna have some more games on this one for sure and I wanna check out that journey mode.

Watched my son firing up FUT, gave him a few tips to build his team (spanish league players) and seeing him play against the AI in a tournament to win a gold pack.
It was refreshing to see that after all that myclub I played.
I have to say I miss that card trading out of the game, which I have done a year ago exactly :)

Funny thing about this game: It is fast looking but feels glacial to play because of the laughable shielding, button delay and the AI boring you to death.

It does scratch a wee itch now and then though, so there is that.

I think this is key.
Personally for me if I go home and for example play Fifa tonight I wont play PES until tomorrow night and vice versa.
Switching between the two games is horrible and I need at least 12 hours away before switching.

I think ill wait with this til black friday+mexican origin like last year. Maybe EA patch it to be hardcore arcade again and i wont pay full price for an offline footy game.

I guess it's like marmite for some, but i really didn't expect too much after '16' so i'm not disappointed at all. Play it on slow and it's that, i've used the sliders as with previous versions and enjoying it. Reading some of the woe in here could put you off it for the hell and back but it's all about opinions. Is it button lag or just the way the animations work with frostbite?

I think you're right, it's button lag caused by Frostbite (I refuse to believe they've decided to make the game less responsive on purpose).

But the question then is, was it worth updating to Frostbite? And of course, in the opinion of the masses, now that you get super-duper lighting and shinier faces, it was. But for me, not even being able to manage a team without having to pick someone who looks nothing like me (I can't even put a beard on the fucker), shows how restrictive the engine is (beautiful or not). Without creating much more detailed assets, which you can't do in a hurry, you're stuck.

For me, it's truly a "next year it'll be great" scenario. I'm enjoying playing as the one player - I might even try to get into Clubs for the first time ever! But playing as the whole team, there's too much going wrong, for me.

I find tackling too easy; on WC with default sliders I had 64 successful tackles vs CPU in my last match! It was mostly because AI player would walk straight into me (unlike 16 where he would pass the ball Barca style) or they would use the new shield ball feature so I would double team him and dispossess him.

I think they used frostbite just to get the Journey up and running and that is their game seller. My 11yr son got it mainly for that and for FUT. Football these days is dominated with you tubers trick artists and all the other fluff that the young 'uns want now. I'm a Cm player so FUT & all the other stuff doesn't interest me.

For those who got Fifa 17 full game, is the game that bad as I am reading all over the internet? I tried the demo and actually it's not bad at all, in fact the pace is decent (on slow) and visuals are great. I don't want to go in comparison with PES 2017 but Fifa does not seem to have this end to end fast paced gameplay pes has and the ball seems more free compared to PES. I am playing the demo on manual and thinking about getting the full game but wondering if it's worth the buy and if there're major differences between the demo and the final product.

It's an impossible question to answer really, I think it's brilliant, next person thinks it's rubbish (if that next person is a PES fan), if you're wary about buying it why not try the 10 hour early access trial for £3 or whatever it is? Unless you're on PS4 of course :)

I for one absolutely love this game. Playing on pro, manual, slow settings with lower league teams. It's been years since I've enjoyed a football game this much.

Must admit im not liking it, loved 14, hated 15 and liked 16 a lot but to me its the same as 16 which I eventually got bored of.

The AI behaves the same which leads to the same types of goals I was scoring in 16, for me that was a worry when they moved over to the new engine, for me its just 16 with shielding and extra pace, cannot see myself sticking with it to be fair unless patches help a bit.

I did last year but didn't like the effect it had on the game so not really convinced its going to change that much for the better

This is where you've got it twisted. Not everyone that is being critical is doing so because they are a Pro Evo fan. Pro Evo got nothing to do with it. FIFA 17 stands for itself as its own game. So I'd suggest MOST of the players being critical of FIFA 17 are doing so because of how it is. Absoloutely nothing to do with PES and even if you do favour one or the other, you can still make a balanced assessment on the one you least favour. It doesnt have to be night and day. Its not a war, unless you're emotionally invested.

PES has been heavily favored in reviews worth their salt. Not one of them has took such a shallow minded opinion that "its better because FIFA 17 sucks and I'm a PES fan" no. They've actually been really calm and balanced about it. If one game is rated better than the other, its broken down and explained why with reasons. For at least two years running FIFA has recieved mixed reviews, whereas PES has recieved favourable reviews on the most important aspect of a game. The gameplay.

Is what it is.

Nonsense, I'm a PES fan and I like the game.

I also loved Fifa 14, didn't really like the last two.. but I like FIFA 17, I don't know but it feels like fifa 14 when I play it. Not too clunky and unresponsive like last year.

LOL you just can't help yourself! The point I was making was that while I think it's brilliant, a hardcore PES fan would probably think it's rubbish because both games represent a very different imagining of this sport that we all love.

Whereas the truth is somewhere in between, hence the only way to know how it is is to try it via early access if that's a viable option.

Placebo You were the one who brought up PES fans in the Fifa thread. You reap what You sow.Can You help Yourself?

Craney, dont engage anyone in this thread re PES please.
  1. ALL keep on topic for FIFA 17,there is a thread dedicated to comparing FIFA to PES, please resist temptation to derail threads and keep it tidy.

I didn't mean to stir up any debates about FIFA vs PES and those we replied were just answering my question about their opinion of the game. Think I should give it a try. One of the things that turned me off FIFA in previous years were players models and individuality. This year it seems a bit different in that respect

Honestly. In my experience with it since day one, it plays just like the demo most of the time. You will enjoy 9 out of 10 games but then play against certain teams like Brazil or Liverpool and it's 100mph even on slow! I've tried to stick with default sliders but I've finally had to tweak them to my taste, I still lost 3-0 to Liverpool with Burnley. But at least I still enjoyed the game, as I felt I could have prevented a couple of the goals or taken my chances and it wasn't so fast! (I play on "World Class" full manual, "Pro" may be different.)

You didn't stir up anything it was a valid question, no idea why certain people felt they must jump on those who replied! And to answer your question about player individuality I'd say it's huge this year and bigger than any football game I've played in the past, really makes a difference to know every player you're using, what their strengths and weaknesses are, which foot is their strong foot, I'm currently doing a player career (I play as the whole team though not the single player) as a young Sheffield Wednesday forward and was sent on loan to league 2 Crewe Alexandra where I didn't know about any of the players in real life so I had to learn which player could do what from using them, has been really interesting and challenging :)

FIFA 14 was stunning. Spent tonnes of hours playing it.

Add to that the speed of the game is FAR too fast! Its like watching a Benny Hill sketch showing a football match! SLOW THE FUCKING GAME DOWN EA!!
I lowered speed accel/sliders, adjusted CPU line sliders and tactics to play defensive, and I stand with the ball waiting and/or casually walking the ball around with my player. My game plays at a standstill.

SLOW THE F'ING GAME DOWN, IN-GAME CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS! ;)

Heh yes that's how I play and I'm having a great time with it as well. But it's pretty much the only way one can enjoy the game, higher leagues and difficulty turns the game into an unplayable cheat fest.

Demo and full game are identical, if you enjoyed the demo you'll like the full game.
I have to disagree. To me the full game feels faster than the Demo and not in a good way.

Sure I can adjust sliders and bump it down to "Slow" for Career Mode etc.. thats cool but as I have said before and this will be the last time I promise, I play online a lot of them time.
