FIFA 17 News & Discussion Thread

I cant find a camera angle in normal wide camera I like, when the ball goes to the far side of the pitch I lose sight of what is going on.

This may surprise the likes of Craney and Curdstar who will have seen me be positive about FIFA and rather negative towards Pro Evo... I CANNOT STAND FIFA 17! The AI is non existant, The gameplay is too fast and feels dumbed down, its all about Pace and Strength and the Shielding of the ball is over-powered especially online...

I am thoroughly fed up with EA making FIFA more and more for kids with each release... FAST gameplay... making it so that Ronaldo, Bale etc are just too fast and somehow strong so therefore making them unstoppable!.

For all I have moaned about PES this year... it actually IS a better game than FIFA 17. I am done with FIFA now as a series... unless radical improvements are done through patches (which they won't be) or on the next game? I won't be touching FIFA again!

That is all and GOOD NIGHT!

You'll be back in 12 months :)

Have they fixed DMF and FB positioning? That's been the major turn off for me the last few years.

Girlfriend has picked me up a copy for a surprise when I get home on Saturday evening. Really hope they have as I have to say the rather unpolished visuals and features of ML does take a significant edge off the gameplay at times.

I played today some time in The Journey mode. Is this mode easier than normal matches on the same difficulty? I scored 2, 4 and 3 goals against PSG, BVB and Real during the pre-season. It was much easier than training games at the begining of career.

I think full game needs little bit pace reduce. It's much faster than the demo.

The novelty of having a new football game is starting to wear off after one day. Better than 16, but still FLAWED 17.
(Even on last gen..) After 17 games can't EA come up with better than the CPU scoring CHEAP goals off blocks or goalkeeper parries to win games? Think I'll be buying any future FIFA games second hand.

Okay, I am still enjoying it, for what it is: an overly engineered football videogame that does just enough to prove entertaining when I turn it on, even if it isn't always the gameplay itself providing the enjoyment consistently.

As an offline player though, someone looking for a challenge and varied AI, this game is incredibly shallow despite all the options, pristine presentation and astonishing visuals (not quite animations, or the player models from game play camera, despite the wonderful hold in detail) on offer.

The input and execution delay is attrocious but to the games credit elsewhere, I am just about living with it. Elsewhere the COM's obsession with the shielding mechanic is just plain weird and looks weird. The AI also plays without variety and sometimes purpose, due to its obsession with shielding.

The game lacks ebb and flow and variance in tempo; lacks an AI that replicates the fluidity of the modern game when it comes to things like off the ball movement. Teams are excellent at adhering to basic formation, and that maybe is where the fun is, breaking that down or playing to it, but it just lacks dynamism.

The big thing for me though is gameplay design and how, in my opinioon, the developers of the series aren't able to capture the raw simplicity of having a ball at your feet, or chasing down someone who does. The real complexity to be found in football is individual match-ups in natural ability and the tactics and strategy surrounding them.

The game is too much of a finger dance and although the transitions on screen are relatively smooth, it feels clunky. Multiple dribble mechanics and other inputs just don't feel like a decent approximation of having a ball at your feet. Sure, it rewards those who learn these mechanics but football is so much more flexible, agile and instinctive than FIFA would have you believe. That isn't simulation or realism, it is over-complicating basic fundamentals of the sport. It impacts player individuality massively as everything is driven by the mechanics in place. As for player individuality from the AI? Don't see it beyond weak foot impacting execution (which is cool) but they don't trick you. All those skill moves and the AI seems to dingy them. Pogba doesn't fire a thunderbolt from 30+ yards because the AI seems programmed to try to play up to the 6 yard box. ALL the time, no matter who it is you are playing against. They don't mix it up. Shield. Pass. Shield. Pass. Shield. Pass. Sliders don't/won't fix that.

It just lacks character when playing against the AI. I'm trying to not compare it to the other game but it is impossible not to at the moment. In the other game I get the AI doing stuff, both reactive and pro-active, that is a breath of fresh-air. There is that variance in tempo (PES is generally quicker, but it is more varied in its tempo) and there is drama and excitement as a result. Most of all, there is an appreciation for the raw simplicity of controlling a football and how player individuality makes a difference, but then it is tactically rewarding too.

I am enjoying FIFA for the most part though when I do turn it on. I like it as a videogame, but not neccessairly/completely as a football videogame and I don't say that in a condescending manner like it is an arcade game or whatever other balls. Sounds weird that I am enjoying it in spite of all that above. Is, I guess.

I agree completely. The AI is having a shielding-fetish and sometimes its drives me crazy. Also, I am now at half of the season with West Ham and Bayern Munchen accepted my application as manager. I mean, seriously? Despite all the flaws, I also enjoy this game for what it is. I had several 'wow' moments and that keeps me playing this game. I hope EA will address the shielding-fetish and the playing style of the AI.

Quick question.
Still mock rules in the PL?
One game suspension for a red card?

Guys, how to use custom formation and tactics you already created from edit mode on friendly online competition and online seasons???

I've not seen it mentioned anywhere (which is surprising) but is it me or is there seriously a lack of offsides in this game?

I've literally not had one offside decision since buying this game at launch. I only play offline.

I'm not exaggerating either, I've not had a single offside, neither has the a.i.

Also another thing that's really bugging me (although trivial) is some of the player faces are absolutely terrible, and these are big players too. I'm not even going to hope they fix it, I mean did any of you remember what Dybala looked like in Fifa 16? Or what about Martial? At least they look better this year in 17.

The other thing that is annoying is again certain big players don't even have a commentary name, add to that certain national teams missing, unlicensed league names, a half arsed premiership presentation, input lag, frame rate drops, janky animations and this game just feels rushed out.

It's a real kick in the teeth and just sums up the gaming industry and the "We'll patch it later" attitude.

so ive been reading the last few pages, and am wondering, should i get the new game? was about to bite the bullet and make an impulse buy but after reading the underwhelming reviews and stuff im not so sure. playing pes 2017 atm on pc

Zoomed in Tele Broadcast (on slow) has saved the game for me.
It's stadium dependent, so can vary a lot. But I prefer it to the default camera at least, which can make gameplay feel ponderous and reminds me why I disliked Fifa for so long.
This year, after playing the demo, I was determined to keep default sliders. So I'm gonna give them a good chance over the weekend.

"well the ball deserved perhaps a better response from his teammates in the middle"

I have heard this comment a million times by now. I hate the repetitiveness in commentary.

The more I read these comments the less convinced I am that I should buy this game. I usually buy a footie game once every two years and my last is FIFA 15 but perhaps I should give PES a shot again this year...hmm

Just gave up on the game as an offline option. The AI is a disgrace and every match is identical even with sliders and editing.

Couple that with the lack of fouls and minimal player and team individualism, Absolutely pathetic.

God I expected to come in here and find the majority raving over the game. I'm in terms camp of very unsure at the moment. It's okay... but feels unfinished.

Ny biggest gripe at the moment ia that so many times I've crossed into the box and found my players just stopped responding to the ball and nothing I can do will lock him back onto the path of the cross. It's like rather than do anything with crossing to make it less spamming they just reduced the chance your player will be in intended target.
Yet the ai seem locked to certain crosses nd my players just stand ball watching despite button pressing.

Goals so far feels very samey and dull by the ai. It feels like they're trying to walk it in again like fifa 14 (or 13) was. And shooting for me feels really off. I'll do the same thing a few times and get totally different outcomes with no reason why.
A tap of shot sometimes goes top corner. Other times its drilled low and with low power. And another time it spoons off miles wide. I'm guessing the problems fixed with manual shooting maybe ?
