FIFA 17 News & Discussion Thread

Yeah the shielding is way too over done.

Whats up with the goal nets aswell man? They look like curtains and something off a PS2 FIFA.

It's getting there. Haven't even touched the error sliders, which is why the pass % is still high. Other than that, it's the most fouls I've seen in FIFA by the CPU yet.

I was Fulham.

No offsides??

One thing I do every year before buying any game, this and the other one,is watch videos, off offline gaming.
With the same difficulty and settings I use myself.
Problem is it's getting harder and harder to find any, since the "screaming career tubers" dominate video content nowadays.
Any chance of you guys posting game play from career mode?
Never buy games on release day, because I wanna know what I'm buying,if the game is good/great/fixable

Will PE and FTC sliders make any difference in pass % this year you think?
Last year it didn't do much, even at 75 for those, all it did going higher was messing with crosses.
Hope you find a good way to sort it,cause game looks good, and would be great if it played good to.
Team individuality, does it reflect how different teams play,as or vs a specific team?
For instance playing as Liverpool do you press as Liverpool? Or playing vs liverpool,do they press you like they would.
I really genuinely hope it does.
Good job as always Matt

Animations will/should of course act as differentiators in conjunction with stats when it comes to player individuality.

The input and execution delay is a pain in the arse in this. No way whatsoever is that a gameplay design decision in the interests of trying to capture realism. If it is, it is then one of the most ill-thought gameplay design decisions dreamt up by either developer in a long time. It is manageable for the moment and hope it stays that way, but there is no way its presence can be defended beyond trying to work with/round it.

AI shielding seems to be the new "pass it around without any purpose or drive" this year. P34SEMM got it spot on when he says they do it even when it isn't the best choice, or is necessary. The AI sabotages itself a fair bit as a result of this.

Had a look at the controls in the menus. Threaded through ball? All I see is a different animation at the moment. hope it is a case of me doing it wrong or something because otherwise that will be EA mapping nothing more than a passing animation that requires three inputs (R1, x, stick) to execute, thus a bit daft and over-engineered.

Weird/funny/inconsequential observation. Sometimes the broadcast cuts start with a frame or two of the player standing static then they run through their motions. Looks like they are actors and the director has shouted "action!"

To put it bluntly, no it doesn't. At least not to the level the "other game" manages to do.

Was the shielding like it is now not included in one of the old Fifa cant remember which one and people moaned like now its to OP?

Think that team individuality, playing accordingly as the team plays, unless you change it is a must.
Or even more importantly, the team your facing,do.
Think that was the only con I had with 16,and pass percentage being 90 plus no matter who you faced.
If not fixed,I'll stick to 16
Haven't seen any videos on the matter either.
Problem is I want two games to satisfy my needs

Xbox 360 (World Class, game speed normal. Played on slow in 16.)

Did I just enjoy playing as Saint-Etienne V PSG in a Fifa game!? Bit encouraging! Maybe 16 was so bad at times, but 17 is growing on me by the game. I like the way you have to be ready to adapt and gamble because of the more random game play, just because the CPU defender looks like he's going to easily head the ball clear doesn't mean he won't mistime his jump and miss the ball completely!
Goalkeepers might be a bit rubbish though, seen a few long shot goals from both me and CPU and the game seems a bit easier this year. (An updated was installed when I started the game, but no idea if it was game play patch though.)

Thats a great point about having to be on your toes because of a CPU error more than ever.

I've upped CPU pass error and first touch to 75, so its even more random! Great tho.

Cheers.
Just played using same teams and it's excellent so far. Really made a difference. Lost 1-0 but loved it

Thanks dude. Will certainly give these a try.

Leathered Sweden 3-1 earlier after they took the lead. Perhaps my most satisfying game as of yet apart from all my goals were rather easy plays down the wing; cross, header, goal and came in quick succession. Still, it was good tearing World Class a new one for the bulk of the game. Early days, I need stress, but fairly optimistic that both franchises "17" editions are ones which I can enjoy and alternate between both. Would love nothing more to be honest.

The final part (when it comes to kick the ball) of animations at penalties and free kicks looks completelly unnatural. Looks like ball is kicked by a girl who did it for the first time in her life.

Have they fixed DMF positioning? That's been the major turn off for me the last few years. Considering picking the game up but want to know if they actually stay back when you set them to stay back at all times.

Shielding is ok as long as I can be more aggressive and bring the opponent to the knees.
If I cannot take the ball away from him then it is over powered.

I unterstand that for example Navas cannot take the ball from Kompany while he is shielding but Kompany should take the ball away from Ibra more easily than it's the case in the game.

At least I want to commit a foul if I cannot take the ball from him.

I understand and agree with you.

But have you and everyone else complaining about 'shielding' and it being overpowered, etc. noticed that apparently we're not just supposed to use tackle button to strip them? I saw in button configuration help that they've introduced a new thing called 'Activate/Engage Shielding' or something along those lines... can't remember the exact word right now.
Means when AI is shielding, you go and press L2 on PS4 (jockey button) and that's how you continue try to muscle the ball off them... along with the odd push/pull tackle button.

So for everyone that is complaining about how tough it is against AI shielding, we might all just be doing it wrong or have yet to master how to deal with the situation. That includes myself, since it's a new game we've yet to properly learn how to deal with this. That obviously frustrates some but I don't think it's a fundamental issue that's wrong with the game. I think we just need to improve our game to better deal with it. I've already had more success against shielding opponents than the day I got the game.

best way for the corner kick is ..apply very low power so the cross will be very high..gk remains in goal..meanwhile you'll fight for the position and smash into the corner

Ok i'll give that a go. Currently have no idea where the ball is ending up, so mostly it's the cpu that's winning the battle for the ball. Fighting for position is with the left stick, correct? Or do we have a special button for that?

Graphically the game is beautiful. Loving the lighting this year. Frostbite take a bow.

A few years ago elements of the gameplay engine and computer AI would have pissed me off, but for the sporadic amount of time I will play the game, I'm just going to enjoy it for what it is.

Agree I think sometimes we over analyse things. Its a game FFS and Im pretty sure I didnt think about it this much back in the day.

This may surprise the likes of Craney and Curdstar who will have seen me be positive about FIFA and rather negative towards Pro Evo... I CANNOT STAND FIFA 17! The AI is non existant, The gameplay is too fast and feels dumbed down, its all about Pace and Strength and the Shielding of the ball is over-powered especially online...

I am thoroughly fed up with EA making FIFA more and more for kids with each release... FAST gameplay... making it so that Ronaldo, Bale etc are just too fast and somehow strong so therefore making them unstoppable!.

For all I have moaned about PES this year... it actually IS a better game than FIFA 17. I am done with FIFA now as a series... unless radical improvements are done through patches (which they won't be) or on the next game? I won't be touching FIFA again!

That is all and GOOD NIGHT!
