FIFA 17 News & Discussion Thread

This game is very, very good.

Your opinion of course, but in my opinion very VERY good FIFA 17 (based on release build) is not.

Decent. 6.5/10.

For what its worth I'd give FIFA 16 an 8/10.

That rating could change depending on if/when EA Sports put these issues right. Thats IF they do. But at a push 6.5/10 at best right now.

Was going to structure my thoughts a bit better than intended, but my head is all over the shop after my uncle passed away suddenly last night. What I will say regards FIFA in relation to that is that it is proving decent wee much needed distraction.

World Class
Slow Speed
Semi-Passing on the grounders, Manual on the lofty's
Legacy Defending

Fuck knows what else.

- There is a responsiveness issue in the game, though currently, I am not finding it hugely frustrating. Is there though and could become a real pain in the ass, but for the moment, while I am getting to grips with things, I am managing it being a factor in my play. It isn't realistic though. I think comes from a combination of some glitchy first touches and, oddly, the amount of frames for each and every movement, along with some transitional stuff.

- I hate how someone like me who detests tactical defending, feels like the game is whispering in my ear repeatedly that I should be using it and not the reasonably capable legacy method. It is a whisper though, and just hope it doesn't turn into a scream. Do I seriously need to use that tactical shit if I were wanting to play online?

- You will get no debate from me regards what games turf looks better in daytime settings. It's this.

- I would say that while the daytime turf has generally been lovely, thanks to crisp visuals from gameplay camera, that I don't particularly like the player models from gameplay view, although very clear and detailed. They lack a bit of "chunk" and differentiation. Could be a camera thing, but not a massive fan. Bit of rough with the smooth here.

- Okay, player individuality. Listen, I think this is a subjective thing between the two games available now. I don't agree with Chris that it seems more pronounced here. It is nice that weak foot plays a factor, and reckon a few like that too but for me, while it is welcome, they players don't vary enough between each other at the basics, or things like agility and first touch. If this game had the same level of clearly visible variety in players agility and things like first touch - basically nicked PES' lovely wee contextual moves and some of the ID stuff - it would take this game to another level. Maybe not "the ultimate level", but another level. This is a biggie for me, but the good news is that although I do notice that lack of variety, it isn't proving obstructive to my enjoyment thus far. Like I say, this is very subjective when considering both games now.

- There is just a sensation of floatiness to movement and that I need to manually input a sensation of weight in movement when on the ball. Difficult to explain without a comparison and will leave that for said contrast/compare thread. Again though, I am currently able to work with it and it hasn't frustrated me like I initially thought it would when playing my first couple of matches. If I were to take a guess based on limited play, it might actually be those animation transitions again. Some people will disagree, but the fact is your mind is a pretty wonderful thing, and can fill in a lot of blanks when it comes to animation. This snappiness, if done right, results in greater response and yes, maybe even a sensation of weight, if done correctly.

- Can't help but notice the AI's lack of variety in how it plays. Along with that, I just find the game a bit one paced. Greater ebb and flow would be welcome. Yes, I do notice the AI on World Class averaging 90+% passing accuracy. This is another one for the contrast/compare thread in order to break it down as to what I want to see but to tempt fate and nod to the other game, there is a lot to say for the fluid formation stuff and alike, and how the AI does utilise it, even if at the wrong time.

- AI again. Lack of player movement and a representation of the fluidity of formation/positional movements found in the real sport these days. But do you know what? It again isn't proving completely prohibitive to my enjoyment.

- Broadcast cuts just a little bit prolonged. Guessing we can turn such presentation stuff off? Talking about the during match shenanigans.

I quite like this. I won't go into what I prefer and why in here, but I do like this so far.

Bad idea to release the game now by EA SPORTS. Especially in its current state. Anyone who was considering PES may be given all the reasons why to do just that, when the majority of the UK get and play FIFA 17 tomorrow. If anything EA should have held the game back just another month to polish it. Would have made all the difference! Patching it and updating it after release is time, maybe all the time people who are already frustrated with the previous installments in the series need to jump to PES.

I'm honestly stunned how unresponsive FIFA 17 is. It leaves me wondering what I am actually in control of in the game! 1-2 second delay in the menus, 1-2 second delay in button presses on the pitch. Retardedly unaware players. Really really poor start.

Condolences to you and your family mate. I lost mine a few years ago to. Dunno whats worse. Losing suddenly or watching someone fade away for a couple of years. Don't think there is a better way, its shit whichever way it happens.

Loving this game, It's so much more lifelike with the randomness and how it plays and looks.

The ball can go anywhere from anything that happens and and it looks good in doing so. I mishit a volley earlier from 6 yards from a great cross whipped in behind the defence which hit into into the ground and bounced over haha.

The saves the keepers make are look amazing as well because of it. I just had one save where the ball deflected from a shot on the edge of the box and it went the opposite way it was aiming, De Gea went with his feet (like he does in real life) and managed to tip it over with his outstretched foot.

Easily the best and most realistic looking Fifa yet.

Was a bloody mess yesterday due to where I was in relation to events and me not having any charge on my phone. Thank you for the kind words of condolence, mate.

Fucking sweet Beck tune on the soundtrack. Some Digitalism too. Man, I really do miss the FIFA09 soundtrack.

I agree. I really liked 16 and this feels like a more mature and better looking version of that. I was mainly bothered by the under-powered passing in the demo, but a wee fiddle of the appropriate slider to give them a little more zip has alleviated that concern and I'm quite happy with the full game, so far.

So had 4 games. 0 fouls by the AI and no long range shots.

Hoping Matt10 sliders can fix this. He currently working on it now

It's getting there. Haven't even touched the error sliders, which is why the pass % is still high. Other than that, it's the most fouls I've seen in FIFA by the CPU yet.

I was Fulham.

Having a blast on this. Really should go to bed but it's got that "one more match" thing going on.

Beautiful game. Please don't mess with it EA.

More games...

Still quite like but that delay/responsiveness thing, along with the AI's obsession with shielding the ball, is a bit grating. Too many situations when the AI just stops, you go near them, they shield, shield, shield, shield, shield in what looks like a bizarre reverse rugby scrum between two men, and I'm like "what the fuck are you doing, mate?" and the shield contest mechanic sometimes doesn't do shit, so I just move away and they invite me to do it again. It likes it pace glacial a bit too often, does World Class, which I wouldn't mind if it weren't for these wee stationary tussles that look like they belong out at a corner flag when a winning team is trying to waste time, and not them knocking the ball about slowly trying to work an angle. But then there is that pass accuracy. Rangers with 98% after a half in one game. Nonsense. Your default out-the-box AI on World Class shouldn't be doing that.

genuinely, craney, what's the appeal for you of continuing to hang around a place where, on the whole, it appears people are enjoying the game? it can't be *that* enjoyable to shout down one after another whose opinion of fifa doesn't line up with yours, can it? i'm honestly curious...we're going on pages and pages of nit-picking and "correcting" those who have the temerity to enjoy fifa more than pes. some of your critiques are very valid and would improve the game, no doubt, but on the whole it smacks of another poster trying to turn the fifa thread into the pes v. fifa thread that already exists.

I bought the game today turned it on, I understand why people are complaining about the stutter it's pretty obvious,I will wait till the game is installed properly cos if that stutter remains this game is unplayable for me.

As you probably know by now, yeah Bundesliga thankfully still has all of its original stuff including scoreboards, graphics and my favorite which is that legendary MUSIC! :D Totally authentic.

I, too, am wondering why EPL doesn't quite have all that this year.

Anyway, this is my first post since I got the game and there's a reason for it. The game is awesome! :D It's an evolution, not a revolution but that's what I wanted anyway. Everything has been improved including 'Be a Pro' career mode, which something many of us feared they might even take out of the game!

My one beef with the game, and it's a minor one and for many won't even matter, is on the audio side of things. Many many many players still don't have a commentary name. I played a game with FC Rostov who finished runners-up in Russian Premier League last year and Christian Noboa was the ONLY guy that the commentator would call. One guy out of 11... I noticed many other players are the same in those other leagues... basically if you're not a superstar or dont play in one of the top 3-4 leagues, chances are commentators won't say your name. Makes playing in those leagues a bit weird since they're silent half the time.

I'd love to know why they're not included, seems really weird when the PL logo is there. I'm wondering if something's changed now that the PL are sponsorless and "fully own" all their content, including TV scoreboards etc...

Does the Bundesliga still have its own scoreboards etc.?

I agree with Curdstar that the shielding thing is annoying. A player will just start shielding for no reason or get themselves in a position to shield when there was no need. It's like run run shield run run shield.

Also, might be me being shit but in 3 of the 4 games I had I conceded 2 mins after scoring. I was lfc v hull and hull hadn't got out their half. I went 1 up then hull turned into Barca for 2 mins until they levelled. As said it might be me but to happen in 3 games is odd.

Ball does look great when it hits the net.

I pointed out the shielding issue when i had the BETA terrible feature to add kinda spoils a decent game that flows nicely otherwise

Shielding is ok as long as I can be more aggressive and bring the opponent to the knees.
If I cannot take the ball away from him then it is over powered.

I unterstand that for example Navas cannot take the ball from Kompany while he is shielding but Kompany should take the ball away from Ibra more easily than it's the case in the game.

At least I want to commit a foul if I cannot take the ball from him.

Got the game early yesterday at the Media Market. Was my wife's birthday yesterday so I packed my copy in some fancy paper and gave it to her.....should have seen her face, priceless! (and the couch sleeps just fine).

Anyway, could only play a few games so far so my opinion is based on that.

Pace of the game is very very nice. Slow, you can build up play quite nicely.
Pressure in midfield is still there, in my opinion it was not there in 15 but too much in 16.
Since there is indeed a problem with responsiveness it's hard (for me) to keep posession in midfield.
Pressure combined with input lag is killing that a bit.

Still having fun with the game, but hoping they sort that out. Pressure can be reduced with sliders.
Love the shooting, love the animations. This is a very pretty game.

Little things like the 60 years Eredivisie logo do help with the immersion.
There is a lot of stutter in those pregame drills. I never do them but still strange that the stutter is there.
It's also there in the menu's.

I agree with the defending and shielding. It's very hard to get the ball. It's nice against Ibrahimovic which is a strong guy, but every cpu player has almost the same capabillity.
Defending is hard. I switched back to legacy defending and am by no means a button masher.
But it's almost impossible to time correctly. Cpu will almost always do a last minute turn, as if they are reading your mind. Maybe it is also a case of input lag, i don't know but so far i'm only able to steal a ball when i call for the extra man to help me out. Quite annoying really.

One nice thing, a cpu controlled teammate actually stuck out a leg and intercepted a pass. Can't remember ever seeing this before.

Need some more matches to form a solid opinion but what i can see now : lot's of nice things and some annoying things.
Hopefully with sliders and the right patches this can be sorted.

Shielding is a nice feature but it is not implemented correctly. If stronger player tackles shielded player he should either take the ball away from him or make a foul.
