FIFA 17 News & Discussion Thread

Played the first half of the tutorial game when you first boot up the game. I tried a long ball up to Diego Costa and the ball was so flat and useless. Those are the sort of passes you can play on PES 2017 to those sort of players. Utterly innefective on FIFA 17. Not much variety of passes in build up then? But thats not the worst, when I played that pass, massive stuttering and slowdown. Also noticed slowdown and stuttering when I was passing the ball around and dribbling in certain areas of the pitch. FIFA 17 on PS4 this by the way.

Noticed the framerate issues in the demo also.

Game downloaded the latest update also.

Cant believe the slowdown whilst in gameplay. Very very poor to let the game out like this.

Theres slowdown on PES 2017 but it tends to be in replays and cinematics, not when you're playing football.
Dont take this the wrong way but I had a feeling you would find issues with FIFA like this when playing it. Not trying to be funny or defend the game / demo in anyway but I noticed no such slowdown at all? PS4 as well.

PES 2017 has motion blur for replays which made me feel a bit sick watching them so I ended up skipping them ASAP.

I'm getting proper stuttering and delay. 110%. When I paused the game to make a sub it was stuttering.

If I wasn't getting it, I wouldn't say anything. I'm seeing it and feeling it. I'm not comparing it to Pro Evo. I'm playing it for what it is. At the moment I'm getting these issues. FIFA 16 ran more smoothly.

I noticed Menu's were a bit unresponsive in the Demo and also the BETA (yes I was one of the lucky ones) but not the gameplay. I will see how it feels when the full game lands on my door mat (hopefully today).

No vids of gameplay yet?
Need to know if full game is slower than demo. If not I wont bother opening it.

It is slower. A lot slower.

But its so damn unresponsive to button presses and clear slowdown/stuttering issues at times. Not impressed by that at all. Whether its because I've been shagging Pro Evo all week and the stuttering is more noticeable, I dunno, but it honestly feels like a laggy game does online.....and I dont play online. Played 3 games against the CPU and felt it in all the games. Cant be individual stadium related because I've suffered it in Wembley, Etihad and Anfield.

Stadiums are nice, matchday atmosphere nice as per. But if they dont fix the stuttering and button lag, bloody hell it will be a major major disappointment. I honestly cant believe its like this on release with the full version. If people were already on the tipping point with EA Sports and FIFA, this right here could give them the only push they were looking for or needed.

FIFA 16 wasnt like this. At all.

Well so far there's 1 report of stuttering during gameplay. It's just an anecdote at the moment. Is it an option to install the game more fully to the hard drive on PS4? If so try that. It could always be a dying machine.

Erm a quick browse on the FIFA forums and there is a thread full of people saying the same thing?

The game automatically installs on PS4.

Nothing wrong with the console.

No excuse the game is what it is at the moment. They ought to fix it.

I've not had any stuttering on the Xbox One version (not tried it on PS4) - but the button-lag (intentional or otherwise) is definitely there on Xbox One too. I know the demo was patched (and the full game too), and I can't say if it was improved or not (the general consensus is that it was). All I know is that in the full game, I've had a few one-on-ones where the player has ignored my button-press and walked into the keeper instead, as well as losing the ball in midfield because of it a few times.

It's a bit annoying offline, but I let go of the sprint button a lot more than I usually do in order to solve it. Online, it's worse (but I find a bit of guilty pleasure in seeing it happen to other people too, where they'll run the ball into my player).

I think people are saying it's realistic - I disagree. A slight delay while the player positions himself, okay - but carrying on for 3-4 strides, no (happens in PES 2016 too, but usually to ensure your lower-rated team doesn't win). I've pressed shoot, if the guy's in the wrong position, make him fall over (which to be fair does happen more this year, I do like the player individuality).

Played 5 or 6 games. Stuttering and slowdown less noticeable now than earlier. I think perhaps because it was installing whilst playing HOWEVER, its not gone completely, still get slowdown and stutter during gameplay, unresponsive controls and laggy menus.

Noticed home advantage. Seems easier in home games than away. Especially in terms of your attacking output and the player movement off the ball.

Soundtracks good though.

Whats your opinion Chris - worth me cracking it open when I get in or return?

I thought soundtrack was so good that I had all of it turned off within an hour.

I don't have any button lag on PC, even when I stream the game from it to my SteamLink. Not anything unusual anyway.

Early initial pro's and con's

Pro's

+ Encourages you to play football before your team will move up the pitch
+ Matchday atmosphere and crowd reactions
+ Stadiums look very nice especially before the game when you see the outside
+ The players eyes are very lifelike
+ Players sweat as the game progresses
+ Soundtrack

Con's

- Laggy menus
- Stutter and slowdown issues on the pitch
- Lack of variety of passes in the final third, overall lack of creativity, still very much "Through-ball...Goal" playing a longer pass to hold up the ball is practically pointless
- The game doesnt do enough to encourage players to play with different playstyles
- Player models
- Players models, stats and strengths don't really reflect, except for the pacey players. Stronger and taller players dont seem to use the strengths and size they've got clearly enough. Pace or nothing.
- Lack of team and player identity
- Lack of tactical options in gameplan, still very linear and basic. No option for formations with and without the ball. Football's moved on, FIFA hasn't.

I get some gnarly slowdowns on the Xbox One version, but the PC version is fine (as expected). Why did they remove super cancel?

Hey there, to those who have the game, have they brought back the 'free training' mode where u can practice on default playing view, rather than just the first person view vs keeper??

Received my copy from ShopTo a few hours ago (PS4).

Gameplay doesn't feel slower than the demo to me. Feels exactly the same in fact. I have set the speed at slow and it flows nicely.

Visuals as expected are gorgeous.

Shooting is immense. EA have nailed it. Scored so many varied goals in my few hours with the game.

Legendary difficulty is perfect. CPU played completely different as Burnley to how it did as Spurs.

One thing that I really dislike is the 'passing header'. The button just doesn't do anything anymore, the player just stands there. Do I always have to use the 'shoot header'? What am I doing wrong?

Was lucky enough to get this yesterday (new XB1S package - installed and loaded fine). Played it for an hour or so. Have to say after initial reservations of the players feeling a bit lightweight and a bit skatey, I think I like it better than 16.

Just feels a lot more random. Had loads of things happen that didnt in 16 - seen the keeper slice/sky clearances for a start. Lots of missplaced passes (also some silly games where the AI have >90% pass success), bobbles, scrambles and also the attempts on goal seem totally different - lots of different shots, headers that flash across the goal etc.

Love the improved atmosphere too. Lower league teams (least what I've seen) have player names for the tannoy announcers, subs are introduced properly now ("Substitution for Southend Utd. Going off, Ryan Leonard, coming on, David Mooney").

Also was getting hammered online seasons and when I started missplacing passes, crowed were booing and grumbling like what would happen during a game. Also crowd celebrations are properly muted for away teams now which is nice.

Overall, think its superb. Cant wait to #GoAgain tonight.

Anybody messed with the tactics? Could someone set a team to long balls (not midmatch, through Edit Teams) and report back?

Bought this over a counter from a mysterious all-knowing bearded man in Glasgow.

Okay, I bought it in G-Force.

Okay, so I have played a couple of games of the retail version with patch installed. I guess I should put the old disclaimer in place that I am particularly enjoying PES this year in a way I haven't enjoyed any game from either franchise for quite some time. Each has had something to offer since a PES6/FIFA09 but none since have had me playing with such frequency and enjoyment like PES 2017 has. It is early days there too, though.

There have been legacy issues for me with FIFA for a number of years (as I have with PES too) so the first thing I try to do is identify if said issues have been addressed. There are also things both these games get passes on when it comes to on-field stuff that is a tad bewildering to say the least.

FIFA17, like PES2017, still has legacy issues.

First of all, something that probably won't bother me as if there is anything that is "modern gamer" about me it is that I have the Spotify app playing tunes over the action more often than not, so I reduce the in-game volume so as I can hear the crowd more than anything else under the tunes I am playing.

Erm...so this amazing commentary. Sure, there is no question there is a variety to it, but the series still uses a weird mix and it doesn't sound like Tyler or Smith are actually at the game, or occupying the same space a lot of the time. It isn't the delivery but the variable quality of the audio files. Tyler sometimes sounds like he is saying things away from the mike, or is radioing in his lines. It's just a bit weird and can feel a bit disconnected from the action. Also, there is a weird fade-out/fade-in of the crowd when some lines are being delivered. It has been like this for a few years now and I always notice it.

The big one though with the audio, when talking about ambience/atmosphere, is that delay between the ball hitting the back of the net and the crowd roaring. It just sounds ever so slightly delayed and also a bit flat, like only a small corner/section are celebrating. Maybe this changes but this is again something I notice every year.

Okay, the footy is on just now, so will come back with more thoughts. Best get the relatively inconsequential out the way first I suppose.
