FIFA 15 News & Discussion Thread

trying to get the ball in midfield vs legendary cpu is pretty much useless, you have to wait for them to shoot and block it to get it back

i haven't played fifa in a while, but i'm really impressed by the atmosphere, also after 20-25 matches didn't have one problem with the keepers, they were absolutely amazing so far

oh and the pitch looks absolutely spectacular, didn't expect that

As long as you jockey and time your tackles, tactical defending is great. I'm happy to be skinned at times anyway. What's the point of being able to defend every attack with ease and no input? Can't use it online so pointless for me anyway.
This.
But I must admit that also in the FIFA 15 demo I saw the 'automagic tackling' from time to time.
It would happen when you controlled a player trying to jockey on a pass line and sent a teammate to contain the ball carrier (I often do so, then usually once placed the player on the pass line I switch to the "containing" one and try to jockey/tackle the ball carrier).
Well, from time to time the CPU-contrlooed teammate would stick his leg out and get the ball back no-matter-what. Annoying in my opinion as it's somehow open to exploits.

I'd never go back to legacy defending. Just hold a button down and let the computer do it all for me? No thanks. If I get skinned then at least it's me being skinned. I prefer tactical defending against people too, even playing locally when you have the option. You don't have to 'cheat' using it constantly to zero in on the AI. The mere fact it is on at all makes their behaviour quite different. That is the point.

Has anyone else noticed how pathetic the CPU is, when the CPU is winning..

I was playing on World Class and went behind in the 56th minute and the CPU then changed formation and everytime it got the ball it just hoofed it into touch - it was the most bizarre thing I have ever seen... Even when I passed the ball to their midfielder in an acre of space the player didn't turn and run he kicked the ball out of play and gave me a throw in...
This proceeded for the rest of the game, not a single pass or anything by the CPU just everytime it got the ball hoof into touch.

But that's not the worse thing about the demo, it is the control when the ball is played at height, as I like switching the play at the back, I find it hilarious when the ball just hits the player and bounces like a ping pong ball wherever it sees fit.
The games pace is also increased and feels really arcadey, I think this might be the first time in about 3 years I actually give PES a go..

I do take the demo with a pinch of salt though as the full game is never the same as the demo.

I have noticed that too. CPU sometimes goes into semi-retard mode. It is super easy to run circles around them. I hope it gets fixed for final release.

Annual post from me related to new game release....

Of all the changes I've seen discussed so far, one that has gone unmentioned (I think) is the tactical options you have now for each player.

I set Sturridge to drift out wide and Countinho (playing as the CAM) to drop deep and it worked brilliantly - Studge was often found on the left wing as he does in real life, and Coutinho was never a goal threat (again realistic lol).

This one change is going to improve the single-player experience for me a lot.

I hear you. I switched to legacy defending and it is SO much better and easier. What is surprising is that the AI routines change when you use legacy defending. They don't try to power dribble around you. Since you can lock on them like a homing missile with legacy defending, they try to pass it around much more.

All in all I prefer legacy defending much more, but mostly because the AI changes behaviour when you use it. Going back to Tactical Defending the AI felt so broken in comparison.
Yeah I said a few posts ago that legacy defending is the way forward for me. The game plays so much better. Couldn't give a shit about not using it online as I never play that mode.

Might give legacy defending a go. I cant remember what it used to play like, but I do remember that I defend the same way as I always have on Fifa so I dont think it would affect the way I play. I even change 'team mate contain' to X and 'tackle' to A, every year, just like it used to be. I just stand off the attacker with LT until the time is right to win the ball.

Couldn't have said it any better.

The more I play 15 the more I like it (with some tweaking of sliders and tactics).
BTW I didn't notice this before but during penalties as GK you can "taunt" the PK taker (waving arms etc).

please if anyone found a solution for fixing black bars on monitor with 16:10 ratio, graphics look bad it seems the game doesn't run well on monitors other than 16:9. please let me know if there's a fix.

from FIFa15 folder placed in My Documents, you can try to edit fifasetup.ini

adding aspectratio line

Fifa 14 FIFASETUP.INI was:

ASPECTRATIO = 1.778 is 16:9, you put 16:10 , 1.600 <= maybe this line help you

AUDIO_CPU_LOAD_LIMIT = 5
CONTROLLER_DEFAULT = 0
DISABLE_WINDAERO = 0
FULLSCREEN = 1
MSAA_LEVEL = 0
RENDERINGQUALITY = 0
RESOLUTIONHEIGHT = 768
RESOLUTIONWIDTH = 1024
SCREEN_SLEEP = 8
VOICECHAT = 0
WAITFORVSYNC = 1

Anybody with EA Access and an XB1 Picking this up from the Indian store? It's only £26 for the UT edition. The UT is for my son as I have no interest in that mode whatsoever. Think I'll buy and pre-download it today.

Where did you find this?

I've bought games recently from the Hong Kong store so would have no problem doing this if it's legit.

And when is the release in India?

Maybe that is true if you put the time in. Fact is a lot of us will only really play the demos when they come out, or have a dabble for a couple of weeks with a copy borrowed from a friend. It's hard for such people (myself included) to come out and say that tactical defending doesn't work without the reason for this chiefly being their own inexperience. Furthermore, if you assume that the reason you aren't defending effectively is because of the system rather than your own ability, then you aren't really encouraged to learn because you don't think the problem lies with you.

Having said that, personally I don't feel like the defending in either game is particularly good. In FIFA it feels like Contain is pointless, whether it's me or my teammate. In particular, I hate that I can't get my teammate to make a tackle or actually harry the opponent in a way that stops them from doing whatever they want. This was EA's answer to people complaining about pressing. However the problem with pressing was that
- the defender would always win the ball,
- the defender wouldn't tire in the way you associate with 90 minutes of double pressing,
- and the risk of creating too much space in behind was not a particularly big one; the odds were that the player would not lose the tackle, and standing off did not give you a defensive unit that would prepare itself well for the obvious pass / attempt at a dribble.

The risk/reward was imbalanced. EA's answer was to artificially give defending the snip by making it so that only one player could actually go in for a tackle, but it would have been better to see much better balancing of the dribbling vs tackling, reducing the effectiveness of the double press rather than replacing it with the double contain. It's also exploited by the CPU in single player who seem to judge what to do next by identifying the difference between manual jockeying and auto-containing - hence, when you switch to legacy defending, it plays in quite a different way and doesn't go on the same super dribbles. In multiplayer, I'm mostly quite happy with tactical defending, because the opponent can't tell the difference between me using the left stick and me using contain, so they don't know when I am more susceptible to particular moves. It's still not a seamless transition, and the problems with FIFA-style passing moves aren't fixed by a manual tackle button.

I won't talk about the flaws with PES in specifics, particularly since 2015 is about to come out and we at least need 2 titles with the same engine to see the clear trend. However, I'd argue that over the past couple of titles it's worse in a lot of areas when you look at controlling an individual (controlling your positioning, knowing exactly when a tackle is going to happen or what it'd look like, switching to plan B when your plan A defender has been beaten in the dribble) but better at having teammates cover for you / being proactive in spotting passing lanes. A certain amount of that is clearly due to scripting where the passer seems to deliberately misplace a pass to a good defender rather than the defender being a couple of yards over to the side to actually receive the ball, mind you. Still, I'd sooner have that than have my midfield not bothering to cut out passing lanes just because I'm specifically controlling one of the other defenders who

The biggest question out of all of this should be (from my experience with 12/13/14) ...

"Will the demo reflect the release?"

Who hopes the demo = release in terms of feel and who thinks it doesn't stay that way? So far EA have always released something not resembling the demo (speed for one) and I wonder if they will do it again.

did anyone notice the difference in color palettes btw platforms, especially btw xbox one and ps4: ps4 has that washed out color but in fact making it a more realistic color palette, on the other hand the xbox one has the same color palette as the pc, it's more colorful, but i liked the ps4 color palette much better, it's making the stadium shadowing and the game shader look more realistic

Pretty much what I expected it to be.

A solid title that builds upon last year without really introducing anything to get excited about.

Only concern is how threatening fast players are. FIFA 14 did well to reflect the risk/reward of sprinting by loosening the ball control while in this state. That's been toned down this year which is a shame.

Heading also still feels too powerful, but fortunately crossing accuracey has been toned down by enough to make it less apparent.

Loving playing as Chelsea, Hazard and Willian are awesome in this. Cant wait for full game now.

1st thing im going to do in my career is sell Tony 'hoofing' Hibbert (as I always do when a new Fifa is released) lol.

Just played the demo and i love it. this post will be a mess because i'm writing as i play :LOL:

I instantly loved the pace of the game, the passing, movement and control looks so much more realistic and the battling between players has been improved no end as well, its really good how players can get there body in between man and ball to take the ball (barging them off in some cases). Players like Matic and Toure are really fun to play with in midfield because of it. (get the fuck off the ball type of players :LOL:)

Defenders taking no chances and hoofing it away is great as is keepers playing short balls and throws like most teams do in real life now to build up play and the keepers saves are so much more realistic!!! They dont always palm it out at 100 mph now they can smother the ball and pick up the loose ball. Just scored a nice looking goal with a fired ball along the floor the keeper dived out to intercept and did but only palmed it a few inches from his hands and Costa nipped in before he could do anything about it and put it in.

The ball and deflections are much better and even more random than Fifa 14 as well so there are some right scrambles and 50/50s. Plus defenders clearances can go anywhere so i just volleyed one in with Oscar after a poor header out.

We have ball boys now as well!!!! no more waiting for players fucking about.

The cpu is very fluid when dribbling and hard to tackle (Dzeko was taking me on a merry dance, I hate to think what Messi, Ronaldo, Hazard ect are like), but that's probably because i only play against makes and never use the contain button which i'm have to start using by the looks of it :LOL:.

How do you dribble like they do btw?

The graphics looked like they have improved as well especially the pitch with the wear on it as the game goes on and players kit getting dirty.

The atmosphere/crowd/chanting is amazing though surround sound and you now get the oooooooooooo's when you have a near miss which has been missing on football games for ages and the noise when the ball goes in is very realistic as well.

Pausing it and leaving it shows the highlights which is another great little addition and the new team selection bit is so so much better.

Selecting what to do on a set piece is brilliant and the replays of goals are amazing as are the highlights showing more tackles, chances and skills.

Got to say as well the broadcast camera looks so fucking realistic but i'm not sure if i can play with that which is a big shame. Tele Broadcast aint a bad substitute though.

Final thoughts everything has improved, what a game!!!!!

I'm not happy w the demo it might be a learning curve. It feels like ice skates coming down a steep hill w/ (2) bad shaken knees. The defenders movements seem like I'm flying a helicopter have to turn before running into the direction. (ps4) the (pc) feels better n moving but harder in shooting (scoring)....everything feels like I'm on manual.

has anyone else noticed that goal kicks barely reach the half way line? really bugging me. this was a problem with an older fifa too. I'm playing on xbox one

in fifa it's known that goal kicks don't feel anyway near as goalkicks in PES, feels like a long pass...this is known for years now.

just had a quick go on fifa 14 on xbox one and all the goal kicks i had cleared the half way line by about 10-15 yards.

i remember a fifa a few years ago that you couldn't get past the half way line with a goal kick but i'm sure they fixed it in the next years edition.

fingers crossed the retail version rectifies this

had 3 games and its great, individuality is now showing a lot more, messi with little flicks etc. Some good midfield battles, AI now fouls and had a quite a few free kicks. Goalies may need toning down slightly. Speed is perfect on slow and manual plays great including the now fixed short pass that isnt over hit. I could never do very short 1-2's on manual passing but can now.

PS4 now has voice recognition too which is a bit of a gimmick and the other half looked at me like i was loosing it when i started to shout "long ball" at the tele :)

What happened to licensed referees? I see names but just generic looking refs.

Also anyone notice the linesmen always smirk on the close ups of them for an offside.

Did they ever confirm licensed likenesses?

Like how in non Prem v Prem games there are generic refs.
