Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

'08 was the closest thing to proper player footing they've ever achieved. Our cries for 'more responsiveness' fell on ears which felt that meant to make the players sprint about with absolutely no problem.

Thank You Rutter. What was the producer for 08's name? Where'd he go?

I wonder if the team at EA don't think it's a bit off that everyone has such perfect control of the ball when receiving a pass. Hard pass in penis height? Yeah no problem let me just control it better than Messi control a normal pass in real life. Followed by these now classic perfect touches 10 times per second, floating around there on the pitch like the law of physics doesn't even exist. If they could fix this it would make such huge difference to the game.

One of many things bud. How about we start with "Pro" Passing first eh? LOL

I really think we expect way too much. We want this super realistic Sim-Game where everything looks and feels like it looks and feels in real life. But how many goals are scored in 2 x 5 mins playtime in real life? How many shots on goal in 2 x 10 mins playtime?

You cant have it all. It is a game at the end. If it would work like it works in real life, all games would end 0-0 without anything happen. We have to remember this before we judge this game too hart.

All we really need is a good balanced game. A Game that feels good, like PES 5 or maybe PES 6. Both games were not perfect with a lot of unrealistic situations but they feel good. Passing, shoting, crossing just feels good. The AI was ok (never perfect and way behind todays AI) and the game was fun overall. And that was ok for the most of us.

Today we never get satisfied. Never. I find myself looking for unrealistic scenes in every gameplay video at first. Uhh, that pass doesn't look good. Oh, have you seen this stupid defender? Oh dear, what a shit cross that was, he even used the wrong foot!

To be honest that is a bit stupid. It is a game and it is designed to have fun with it. It is designed for 5, 10 maybe 15 mins of playtime not for 90 mins. That makes a huge difference.

Im sure if EA would make my own FIFA Game no one would play it, because it would be damn boring. That is because i dont want a game actually i want to feel the reel thing. And that is not possible.

What I ask is not too much. Gameplay wise it's not that much. We want Pro Passing and Personality plus, with momentum affecting player movements and a more punishing fatigue system. That alone makes it a good game. Thing all those 4 things seem to not exist.

I think a game that is realistic but scales down stamina and fatigue to the length of the game would be fun to play. I don't see why anything else have to be dumbed down.

I dont know what you expect from Pro Passing. How far should it go until you are satisfied?

I just want to stop 180° passing but you have to remember it is a game. A short pass shouldn't be a challenge. And how will you notice a difference between a short pass from a midfielder and from a defender? You can see a difference in real life, sometimes. But most of the times a short pass is a short pass and not a miracle.

And what is it with Personality plus? What exactly do you expect here? How far should it go until you are satisfied? Probably till every player feels unique (we will say if they got it right for Drogba why not for Player xy).

Yes. A good working fatigue system is a must. Because the old one is a joke and we all know that. It doesn't exist to be honest.

And what is with crossing? A lot of people have huge problems with the crossing-system. And what is with headers? And what is with shoting (enough curve or not? no hart low shots? etc). And what is with defending (way to much space all over the pitch) And so on and on.

We will always find things that doesn't seems like they are in real life. But maybe this is the only way to generate a playable fun game.

Today in a real game you don't have any space at all. If FIFA would simulate this you would hardly have a shot on goal in a 10 mins half. Fine for hardcore players at first but not for millions of players and even for hardcore fans it would be frustrating after a while.

Don't get me wrong. I would love to have a more realistic Fifa game with better shoting, passing, defending, AI. But i think most of the things we would love to see in the game would make it unplayable in the end. We are to hardcore for a game.

Exactly my words, mate. This alone, would make such a huge impact.

One thing I do think people seem to get confused with is the amount of time players actually have on the ball in real life football. Players really dont get that much time on the ball with no pressure. Now I aint saying fifa is realistic in this sense but at the same time the idea that u should get time on the ball isnt realistic either.

Don't recall it being specifically mentioned but I refuse to believe they aren't aware of the absence of realistic first touch. Ritter et al know enough about football, surely they're aware of one of the cornerstones of the game. I think it just hasn't been a priority for them since realism takes a backseat to other goals.

Not sure Fifa 08 was a great game. Thats a stretch!!

FIFA 08 was a great game... at the time. Pace of play and MM was best of FIFA series, but other than that pales in comparison to 10/WC games.

Sorry but this is just a massive cop-out. It's not that we expect too much, it's we want something different. Saying we are expecting too much and we're never satisfied points toward quality issues but really we're more concerned with emphasis - if we're being honest, FIFA 10 and the WC game are of high quality, but the problem is the emphasis is not on realistic gameplay. I have no doubt in my mind that if EA were to seriously commit their full resources to creating a realistic football game, instead of spending resources on Creation Center and other non-essential gimmicks for the casual tween gamers, FIFA could leave PES in the dustbin of football sims.

Besides, saying we are never satisfied and we ask for too much blatanly ignores history: iss and pes in their heyday were fantastic football games relative to the tech available. All we want is pes 5 gameplay quality combined with next gen innovations. I for one, however, am increasingly thinking FIFA won't be the answer. It's not that they can't do it as much as they won't; it's not in EA's interest to risk their bottom line for the sake of realism.

Speaking of pes, over in the main pes 2011 thread, someone has played the review code and says it's outstanding. I'm sure I'll be buying FIFA 11. The question is whether I'll be buying FIFA 12.

Not true. Fact is, relative to where we should be at this point in football games, we're not where we should be.

I'm quite satisfied with MLB '10. It is one of the closest simulations of sport I have ever seen, with sliders to control nearly every aspect of the game. NBA 2k as well, which looks to have made great strides this year, has incredible individuality with 'signature styles' and again sliders for nearly every aspect of the game. The point is it's quite possible to be satisfied with a sports game in this day and age, to say otherwise is making excuses.

To a degree, coming from being a Pro Evo fan, I'm more frustrated with what FIFA hasn't been able to do because it's not about tech. It's about lack of football knowledge. You see how much potential there is there to do GREAT things, but they never reach it because of this (and the fear of alienating the 'casual gamer'). They're like a player with all the potential in the world that never quite reaches the heights all the prognosticators predicted, and only makes you more disappointed. Pro-Evo clearly have had not nearly the amount of resources EA have, and while I don't give them a complete pass for the last two years, I can't kill them for it.

The fact is that if FIFA made the commitment to full sim, they would not lose customers. This is in full evidence with MLB and NBA 2K. These games make no bones about it, they are going for a full sim and it does not hurt their sales. EA should take a page from their playbook.

I am really looking forward to the Pro Evo demo next week and I have a funny feeling it might convert me back this year, but we will see...

EDIT: And how hard is it to make passes with a wrong foot inaccurate? I've seen a couple of posts about this and how it doesnt really matter, but it is essential to football and effects the whole balance of your team. Especially for example if you're trying to build a team in CM, you have a couple of very good right footed midfielders, but hey, it doesn't matter, I'll just put one of them on the left and everything will be fine. Takes out a whole layer of strategy.. and given that Pro evo was able to get this right 10 years ago, it shouldn't be that hard...

This is so annoying, it takes away defensive strategies as well. I like to try and force players onto their weaker foot/side yet I will do this against Van Persie and he can still hit a shot with his right foot that is as good as his left one...thats just dumb.
