Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

Nick is holding back because he is trying to prove he has a life outside of Evoweb.........Come on, we know you don't! Give it up and get writing/posting for gods sake! :D

Ok Nick, looking forward to it. Top man. Take your time, would rather wait and see you deliver a quality write up. Just relieved your not trussed up in a Guildford dungeon being used as an EA gimp for their downtime pleasures.

Hmm, how do we know it's actually Nick doing the posting?

Really i think it has. All the things we wish to see in this game would make it much more of a challenge. Of course it would.

If you have to look and think about the right foot before you pass a ball, if not your pass will miss, it is more challenging. If you have to know your player who receive the pass, if you need to know how good he can control a sharp pass and if you need to correct your position before you receive the pass it would be more of a challenge. If you have less time and space to pass it and to receive a pass it would be more of a challenge. If you need to know that you must pass the ball to the left foot of Özil otherwise his shoot will fly to the moon it makes it more challenging.

It has something to do with difficulty. And so it has something to do with gametime.

Again. I am not satisfied with FIFA at this point. But on the other hand i know i am expecting to much from this game. It will never be the game that i wishing for. Never. It will always be a compromise between my wishes and millions of casual players. So i really think some of the critic for FIFA 11 is a little bit to harsh. It doesn't look shit imo and it will be a good game a better game then FIFA 10, especially against mates.

Hey man I respect what you're trying to say, but have you not played the old pro-evo's? All of the things we've mentioned were present in the game - yet you could still score goals just fine. I DEFINITELY used to have to think about what foot I was using before I shot/crossed. I remember that it used to feel like something special when ur player did a perfect 'good turn' touch on the ball, something which is automatic now. All these things have already existed! It's not like we're seeking a White Whale which has never been attained - we've seen a game with this stuff in it, and it was fun!

And it's because we've seen these things before we get frustrated - because Fifa has so many great things going for it, if it just got the little things right, you'd have a fantastic game, rather than a good game.

To the other comment about NBA 2K, as someone said manual controls would not make sense in the context of a basketball game. But even then I would argue that Semi vs Manual is not an argument between Sim/not sim it's an argument of less control vs more control. If auto/semi is implemented correctly, meaning correct error based on stats is used to calculate passes, then one could say this is more sim like because it relies on the players' stats rather than the skill of the user, more accurately representing reality. Just because Fifa has gotten it completely wrong doesn't mean it can't be done right (I personally prefer Semi as a happy medium).

Anyway, wouldn't it have been nice if Fifa had released a statement like this?:

"The answer is a resounding yes, but in 2K11, pass ratings matter in almost every aspect of throwing the ball. Whether you’re trying to thread the needle on a pass to the interior or you’re attempting to pass out of a shot, the passing ability of the ball-handler now matters. It determines whether or not the pass will be clean or will force the receiver to adjust his stance to catch the ball. The receiver might have to lean or the pass might force him to adjust so much that he bobbles the ball (which in turn can be retrieved by anyone). Many factors come into play here other than the pass rating, such as the distance to the receiver and how open the receiver is where he’s supposed to catch the ball. It’s amazing the difference this has made to the passing game and we’re very happy that pass ratings finally matter."

The way EA make FIFA arcadey/unrealistic to suit the "casual gamers" is bullshit IMO.

These "casual" gamers are the very ones that are the least casual! They are the ones spending all day and all night day after day to get all the achievements and get on the leaderboards...
These people would get used to any newer, more realistic aspects of FIFA fairly quickly because (although I hate to admit it) they are very skilled with the controller and know how to do what it takes to win.

The truly casual gamers such as little kids or non football fans probably couldn't care less, I know when I was younger I didn't really care how good the football games I played on my PS1 were - I would just turn the difficulty down and score loads of goals with my favourite players, that option would still be available even if the game were realistic.

So in conclusion, I'm of the opinion that more realism would not damage FIFA's sales... I don't see any excuse why they can't make a proper sim (adjusted to fit the 10 min matches obviously).

I am too, but EA aren't convinced of that. Look, it comes down to this - we can try to get EA to see it our way, or we can wait for Konami to get it right. With EA, FIFA 12 will be our opportunity with the sliders to get them to make a solid realistic game and they will have run out of any excuses. No more can they say that they have to make sure it's not too difficult, not too realistic - that excuse will have flown the nest.

For now, we can only shout and scream as loud as we can to get it tweaked to a better state.

Okay, everyone else and their grandmothers have covered everything, and probably better than I would, so I'll just say I have NEVER said I want "super" realistic gameplay, and I don't appreciate you exaggerating my post like that.

It was never my intention to put things in your mouth you haven't said. It was the first thing that comes to my mind and it was the easiest way to express my thoughts in this language. But that is not a good excuse for doing you wrong. Next time i will pay more attention to your post. For this time i am really sorry - it was my fault.

All EA care about is sales mate. they had a good thing going in fifa 08 and 09. they seem to be going backwards. Only time will tell if other companies make a better footy sim

There's nothing casual in arcade games. Plenty of arcade games out there that are easy to pick up yet fucking hard to master.

FIFA isn't "arcadey", it's just piss-poor easy and full of autopilot-like aids/scripted stuff, like any other "next-gen" sportsgame really.

Maybe EA kidnapped Nick, tortured his Evoweb log-in password out of him, and are now keeping him under lock and key while Rutter posts under his username, cackling maniacally?

We had a big discussion on this very thing Rob and EA seem to be very keyed up on just who is buying their product to be honest, as has been pointed out before take everyone who has ever joined or posted on their forum about the game and all us on here and the likes of FSB and we are still a minute(but loud)part of their sales..

It does seem EA are cautious about steering the game more towards the more Sim based product we'd like, Marcel was using words like toned down when we spoke to him..

My personal feeling is we will struggle to get EA to move much further without finding someway to keep the core came similar to what they have now, and the only way I see that is to have some sort of slider system...

I just hope the reviewers will start to clime back out of their arse and give it the critism it deserves. How a game can get a 92 metacritic (or whatever it was) when the major, most played mode was broken is beyond me!

Yep, I'm still finishing my write up and I'm trying to keep it level and point out parts that need addressing, I guess when your money comes from the advertising from the same game company who's game you are reviewing it's a no brainer as to why it's a rose tinted view... :PIG:

All we want is pes 5 gameplay quality combined with next gen innovations.

Right now my game footy of choice is FIFA WC and by the looks of things FIFA 11 has improved on that and I prefer that to PES 5 (or any other PES for that matter).

PES 5 was great at the time (and I used to love it) but you can't seriously say it's better than any of the latest next gen footy games (FIFA or PES).

If I insert a PES 5 disk right now, not only does it look like rubbish, it also plays and feels like one. And the AI doesn't come close to good compared to today's games imo.

So I wouldn't want a recycle of PES 5 with any next gen innovations...not in year 2010/2011.

Sliders may well be the only way; not giving up on this one yet. Pathetic that they do this year on year.
