English Premier League thread

ye last day is pointless but was funny as fuck hearing neil quin say goodnight irene to wigan..

*only goal difference. If, you look at the table the top teams and Liverpool always have a good goal difference ,because like last season it matters that much.

It's goal difference, then goals scored. So if you have two teams with a goal difference of +30 but Team A has scored 60 and conceeded 30 and Team B has scored 32 and conceeded 2 then Team A would be on top via more goals scored.

If they are completely level on goals scored then I think it's a playoff.

It should go down to head to head matches after, having a playoff is just silly imo.

I know Chelsea beat us, so if it comes down to it they should get 3rd.

I thought that is how it was anyway, I'm surprised to hear that a playoff might be possible.

Good lord. Credit to a poster on Redcafe for this, but worth sharing:

Since Arsene Wenger last won a trophy, all 91 teams in English football have changed their manager (except him).

That is not true. Both Moyes and Ferguson are longer serving than Wenger (not sure about Moyes, but definitely about Ferguson).

He can claim tat (maybe) next season, but not now...

I think that's what he means though mate, when the season starts next year, every club will have changed their manager.

Even if Moyes stayed at Everton, Wenger would still be the longest serving manager. Moyes managed Everton since what? 2002?

another manager gone, what will Stoke city be without Pulis? they might play football but they have definitely over achieved imo these past 5-6 years. also the longest serving manager in the premier league after Wenger will be Pardew with just 2½ years at Newcastle:SHOCK:

This summer is probably the most interesting for a long while.

SAF gone so we have no idea what Moyes'll do with transfers or how he'll approach the team.
City with a new manager and lots of ins and outs, same with Chelsea.
Arsenal and Spurs both strengthening properly to outdo each other next season.
Liverpool trying to get on terms with those above so they'll have to spend a fair whack (on decent signings and not wasters like normal).
Everton won't have much money but will have someone new at the helm for the first time in 11 years so new players, new style of play?

Mid table and relegation battlers all rolled into one. Will Newcastle make a few decent signings and have a better year with more depth and no Europe? What will happen to Stoke without Pulis? Will Villa do better with a bit of funding and more experience for their young squad?

Looking forward to seeing if Laudrup can upturn a few diamonds in the rough for cheap at Swansea too. He'll have to because they'll need depth with Europe on the horizon.

Much the same abroad too with Bayern, Barca, Real, PSG, Monaco and the Italian clubs all likely to spend. Could be a properly good season next year all over the place.

I'm rather underwhelmed by the promotion of both Cardiff and Hull. Seems like we could have 3 Stoke's next season...
The only positive is seeing Bellamy back in the EPL, i always liked him a lot.

Looks like Mark Hughes might become manager of Stoke City while Roberto Martinez is among candidates for Everton.

Gotta admit this IS the most interesting summer EPL has had for a LONG time simply because of a lot of revolutionary/managerial changes and projects.

It'll be weird not seeing SAF there or even Stoke City without Tony Pulis.

As for Wigan, I'm glad they went down. No more close escapes. After years of struggling, they couldn't pull it out late this time and are back in Championship while a traditional well supported club like Aston Villa remains in EPL where they belong.

Manuel Pellegrini has revealed he has a verbal agreement with Manchester City to take over from Roberto Mancini as manager.

The Malaga manager has been tabbed as Mancini's replacement since the Italian was fired just before the end of the Premier League season.

Pellegrini guided Malaga to their highest ever league finish last season as they ended the campaign in fourth to qualify for their debut in the Champions League.

They went on to reach the last-eight of the competition and were only seconds away from beating eventual losing finalists Borussia Dortmund to reach the semi-finals.

"I have a verbal agreement with them and I hope it is carried out," he said in an interview with the Andalusian television station Canal Sur on Wednesday.

"As of today, I don't have a signed contract.

"It is true that Manchester City have shown a lot of interest that I become their coach and I have had conversations with them.

"Until things have been signed, you cannot say everything is completely done."

Hardly a shock but it puts any nagging fears to bed. Hopefully Isco is packed up in his suitcase :D

Gonna put money on Stoke to be relegated if they get Hughes

So you watched Cardiff week in week out last season then? And Hull for that matter? I'm not saying us or them are great but earlier in the season we played some good stuff. Ball on deck stuff. Not as pretty as Barca of course but tried to get it down and play. Towards the end of the season we played to get results and after the disappointments of last few years I can understand why.
It will be a very hard season for us in The Prem but please don't label us a Stoke. We aren't a hoof ball team at all. Whittingham and Kim Bo are footballers. Bellamy is a baller too. The team is not full of long ball merchants so please keep opinions like the one you had to a minimum as you have not seen enough of either side to really have an opinion on them. Cheers.

I think Hull are beyond dire, I've had the misfortune to see a few of their matches on TV over the last few months and they play turgid football and most of their players are static. Hull scored 61 goals in their 46 league matches last season which is woefully low (1.3 goals a game) - it was the lowest in the top half of the division, and even Peterborogh (who got relegated) scored more than them. Their only decent attacking player is Brady, but he's surrounded by bungling oafs who struggle with the very basic aspects of attacking football. El-Mohamedy, the "player of the year" is average at best, he was loaned to them and it's not even clear they will permanently sign him - even then he is just a pace-merchant all he can do is run at speed with cumbersome control. They'll have to make a lot of signings or else they will have no hope.

I hope for the sake of football Stoke City get relegated. Or better go out of business. They play like its the NFL 98% of the time, and I saw Charlie Adam try to play some football once.. once.. then he resumed smashing the ball into the head of that oversized scarecrow they call Peter.

Eurgh.
