English Premier League thread

It happened before, both Middlesbrough and Birmingham won the League Cup the year they were relegated.

Benteke has already scored 22 goals...that is a big surprise for me. He started the season fantastic with Genk, but the season before that he wasn't particularly succesfull. I had my doubts about him in the EPL, but boy did i was wrong...

Did the league predictor on the bbc football site.

I've got Newcastle going down on goal difference :(

I can't remember the exact score but I expect a loss to west ham, a draw with QPR and a loss of at least 2-0 to arsenal.
I had Wigan beating villa the last day which puts them out the zone above newc and villa and newc drop into the bottom 3 due to goal difference.

That was before last nights match though.
Now I'm not sure about villa vs Wigan. Wigan's games against Swansea, then city in the cup final and then arsenal... It could take it out of them.

I've heard that Newcastle still need 3 points, but they still have to play QPR...if that is true they have nothing to fear...

Nah, Wigan have left themselves too much to do.

They need to win the next two matches, away to West Brom and then home to Swansea to stay up. Could they? Of course, but I just don't see it happening. Think they'll draw with WBA and Newcastle will win against WHU, and that'll be that.

Only excitement will be in the race for CL spots, imo.

I've got Wigan on 36 and Villa on 38 going into the Wigan v Villa game on the final day.

But if Newcastle don't beat QPR they could be on 37/38 and having to play Arsenal away

Bale wins the next accolade .Bale has been named as the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year. I think Carrick should of won it, Wenger feels Carrick should of won best player of the season. I won't go that far. How can this Brit get over look, over and over again! ?!

Carrick can't even get a starting NT call . :(

The awards should be voted on at the end of every month and then tallied at the end of the season. I'm not knocking Bale, but he was none existent for a lot of the early part of this season. My fantasy football suffered big time :(

If you look at consistency, then Leighton Baines should have won. He was very good from the beginning until now.
Both Bale and Van Persie had weeks of brilliance but also had lesser periods...

Either you go for consistency or brilliancy...

Carrick was 'Mr Consistent' and considering his team won the title and they probably wouldn't have without him, I'd say he deserved it.

Im not going to knock Bale though! he's had a brilliant season as good as pundits and the media would like you to believe? No but he's becoming a great player and he's still improving.

Greaaat wins for Villa and Wigan.

40pts may not be enough this year

Southampton---36---------10-----40
Stoke---------35---------10-----40
Fulham--------36---------11-----40
Aston Villa---36---------21-----40
Norwich-------36---------22-----38
Newcastle-----36---------23-----38
Sunderland----35---------12-----37
Wigan---------35---------22-----35

Tough to call. GD is indicative of who's most at risk, imo

hahaha yes mate +1
i heard wigan are the only team to have never been relegated from the top division in england, that is amazing.

Oh well. F*cking Wigan. Dominate the match, and commit suicide with some shocking defending.

Thought Martinez should have done better. Macarthur was clearly done at about the 60th minute, and was responsible for the last goal sheerly cause he's out on his feet.

And I'm not getting into the fact that United loaned Wigan our highly rated, U21-goal machine who has played 19 minutes this half-season. Need a goal late on in a crucial match? Let's bring on a league 1 quality RB over an international striker.

How'd Stam's night go Roberto?

Crap defending.

Huge pressure on Newcastle to beat QPR away and Norwich to beat West Brom at home with them playing Arse and City in their other game

Obviously the same goes for Wigan with Villa at home - if one of the above fail to win their winnable game.

Still not over yet.

I think both of those fixtures you mentioned will be wins for the desperate team - which will mean the last day of the season will be a dead rubber for the title and relegation.

I also think Chelsea and Arsenal will wrap things up in the next 5 days, so there will be literally nothing interesting on the last day :(

shame wigan got beat but i still think they'l stay up, QPR will beat newcastle next week and Remy will get the winner. it would suck if there was nothing to play for for anyone on last day.

ManU without Sir Alex? Will be the first time in my life to see this after this season and an interesting challenge for whoever will take his place. He is(even if he was the one giving Bayern the mother of all losses in '99) one of the best coaches ever, I'll wish him all the best. :BYE:

Was watching Stoke v Tottenham just now. They don't have Delap anymore, but their new official long thrower is that Shotton guy, no. 30 I think. Did anyone notice he plays with some sort of apron underneath his shirt? He uses that for drying the ball, instead of the towels

Shotton is nowhere as good as Delap. Delap not only came further out, but what was really outstanding was the almost undefensable trajectory his throws took, almost undefensable (he used to be a javelin thrower...).

Yeah I know, but the apron idea is hilarious. Gives a feeling of desperation too..

Very good goal from Michu against Man Utd. This goal will be soon forgotten, but IMO that is one of the better i've seen this season...

I love that Phil Jones tried to block it with his head! English defending at it's best ;)

Nice take though, ball was past De Gea before he could move.

Swansea were very strange in that match. Vast majority of the time they seemed like they couldn't be bothered to attack, then every now and then they'd break and look really good.

I love Swansea, but they might end up in trouble next season.
After winning the league cup they had nothing to win or to loose and they might as well be on the beach...that is dangerous.
Sincerely hope Laudrup can motivate them enough for the new season (if Laudrup stays that is).
