eFootball PES 2020 Discussion Thread (PS4/Xbox One)

One way that's worked for me.

Klash tactics as a base.
Then used isureaper31 adjustments on page 316 of this thread. However, I move the defence and midfield as high up the pitch as I can both with and without ball.
Turn on auto offside.
It had transformed the areas of the pitch this game is now played in. Much more compressed in midfield, teams still drop at times and klash tactics base prevents every match feeling the same.

I also think dp6 had added a whole raft of subtle changed to the variety of movements and runs of the players.
Together with above changes, it's much improved.
Some of the AI moves are very impressive now.
Aaaand another testing environment! Thanks for that, I’ll give it a try. :)

Seems it is being delayed due to the virus and not because the Euros got postponed, so it could be out relatively soon still. It will still be dlc for the current game and not the next one.
Makes me wonder more about when the next game will be out. Or if there will even be a next gen version next fall.

Well, Covid situation in Japan has seriously worsened in last days. Until situation settles down and people can start working in their offices again, all bets about release dates are off the table.

Yeah it seems that they are only recently enforcing some real restrictions. Didn't know about this.

What's your way around it man? This midfield issue needs fixing 100% and you got it spot on with the lack of resistance and how they're too many steps off.

It's not ideal, but I set manual man marking for the DMF/CMF opposing the other. I find that this instantly creates that midfield resistance I am looking for. It's not exactly 100% man-marking either as in it tethers the mark all the way throughout the pitch. It simply pulls the responsibility that should have been done in the first place. In addition, the transition position is much better, so the midfielders are not running back to a set position.

Very simply, this is how I do it in the gameplan. I'm on the PC so I can edit both User and CPU. I am trying to find a way for consoles, but not sure it can be done without being able to edit the gameplan of the CPU. You may still get a decent match though as your players will be focused on their task - thus instantly retreating back and forth, which could spark the CPU players to do the same.

------------

I'm using Perugia, playing against AC Pisa, the same team from the first video I posted. I just set marking for the central midfielders only, not the LMF or RMF (or AMF if I had one in this formation). For the opposing AMF, I can leave them unmarked, but have also found that putting my CB to man-mark them helps. Only in some rare spots is the CB out of position.

That's all I do. No other changes to tactics, advaned instructions, player alignment, fluid formations.

Here's the Result. You wouldn't even know there is any true man-marking going on. It's simply forcing the defending team to pay attention to the ball carrier and intended recepient :

Ok just had the weirdest experience ever.

I play matches in Exhibition Mode against the computer on Top Player.

I've found Top Player a little easy but find Super Star too frustrating. After a run of fairly underwhelming games against top sides like Juve, PSG and Inter where I was winning far too comfortably I came up against the greatest side in the history of the world - Cagliari.

They beat me first time in a highly questionable fashion but fair enough. I had eventually lost and I felt I had a challenge once again. I replayed the Cagliari game just as a practice match and incredibly lost again. And again. And again. I could not beat Cagliari. And the games had so many questionable incidents: I hit the post, missed countless chances, (there's no point talking about penalties I haven't had one in over 150 games), the ball kept rolling passed my defenders, it was basically like playing Super Star. In fact I checked the level and no, it was Top Player.

I then restarted my PS4 and replayed the game and won 4:1.

What happened?

Was the game stuck in some kind of weird loop before I restarted it?

Like the circle of death on a Mac, just frozen and needing a restart.

Has anyone ever experienced this?

Also does anyone have any tips for beating the computer when the game won't let you do anything?

Personally i can never be bothered playing the same game game over and over looking for potential AI cheats, just play it once and take it on the chin. One thing is that i have started my league mode several time with different patches/tactics etc and im always different at the same point in the season. Also on pens since the last patch ive had 3 in about 10 games

Heres on i managed to upload when the psn was having issues

What
Something definitely has changed with penalties against the AI. Already talked on reddir and I've now had 2 in 2, my video hasn't uploaded and I'm assuming it's down to psn network. Both won using simple quick ball shifts using right and left controls with a quick player

What?

I haven't had a penalty in over 150 games. I've taken to simply awarding myself and the other team penalties when I deem fouls to have been committed in the box (long story, but it's how I play a career mode).

How do you win or concede a penalty in PES 20?

see my edited post :) the video i did a few days finally uploaded , think the delay was the psn issue. For me its drop a shoulder or quick skill turn then move let AI commit

I replayed as a practice match and then was dumbfounded that I could not beat Cagliari. And then beat them when I restarted my PS4....

That's just the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me.

In previous games I've usually won or got a better result in a rematch. And then I can move on. It gives me closure and gives me a chance to practice. But this was like nothing I've ever experienced. And the random win after completely shutting down my machine?

It's almost freaky.....

In practice matches and in games when I'm 3 or 4 goals up I'm literally trying to win a penalty in ever game by dribbling in the box and the computer will. not. foul. me. And even if it does the ref won't award a pen!

Admittedly when I'm defending I'm careful but I have fouled the computer in the box and the ref waived play on!

So I gave the computer a penalty in my head (and added to the score I keep in an Excel spreadsheet on my laptop).

Bah... Just lost all savegames and data on my xbox PES 2020. Never happened before and all the other games have their saves intact. Only happened on PES 2020 all of a sudden. :BLEH:

Plus, when I try to save new data, it gives me an error and the data is not saved.

Thanks, that looks great and makes complete sense. I'll give it a try. For best overall gameplay do you still recommend using this in conjunction with the changes from isureaper31?

Unfortunately, no. The DP6 update affected the wing rotation and gegenpress. We tested this the other night quite a bit and determined that those values were hurting more than helping. In addition, the compressed lines (the 5sec fix) was also causing issues with positioning and attitude of players through the pitch. The suggestion of man-marking is a base "fundamental" of what is required to achieve that midfield. Any other values would compliment it further perhaps, but they haven't been tested.

Personally, the simpler the better for me. If I can get a team that uses deep defensive line or all-out defence, and still appear that they care about midfield resistance, then we're on the right track. This is why I'll most likely perform the man-marking adjustment only, and still let teams play out to their tactics without giving up common sense.

I've tried it and you're right, so much more engagement and resistance in the middle of the pitch. 100x better. Should I still keep auto offside trap?

I would. I played a few ML seasons where before every match i would set the auto offside trap and man marking for my defenders and defensive midfielders.

Everytime i forgot one or the other, i noticed it. It just took the cpu less effort to reach their strikers and then turn and shoot. To the point i can definately recommend using both.

This was with DP1,2 3 but i dont think it has changed.

HI matt. What were the wing rotation and gegenpress doing now, what problems were they causing?

Well, Covid situation in Japan has seriously worsened in last days. Until situation settles down and people can start working in their offices again, all bets about release dates are off the table.

Oh wow .. i thought Japan had it early, just when Wuhan had it and they've reached the peak because I haven't heard much Covid-19 news from Japan .. boy I was wrong.

Did you read that two Konami workers have been infected by Coronavirus? They closed Konami offices and they are now working from home.

This is definitely no good, Konami Ginza office ...:(

Wing rotation wasn't working, it was basically ignored. Gegenpress was hurting with the over-aggressive play as it is intended to keep players engaged in transition, but they were overcommitting their positions. In the man marking set up, it's not that way, they are keeping a realistic distance, but also artificially creating this zonal look of players anticipating passing lanes.

Yeah, I guess I saw some of that with dp5.

Your fix works wonders on it's own too, brilliant!

What are your thoughts on moving midfield and defence higher up the pitch in both with and without the ball? It was a trick that worked well with pes 6, closing gaps through midfield.

It's worked well with the teams Ive tried. Have you ever tried it and noticed any negatives?
