eFootball PES 2020 Discussion Thread (PS4/Xbox One)

Hello everyone.. I have an issue playing online match with a friend.

We are 3 people in total, 2 in US and 1 in Europe.. We all bought the game from the origin of our countries' Ps Stores..

And the problem occurs when we invite the other friend.. Only the people in US zone can join the match table.. The one who is in Europe can take the invitation but can't join the match instead it says "View game in Ps Store" as if he doesn't have the game at all..

So different regions can't play online matches together? Is there a fix?

If I knew about this issue, I could have the person create a new account from US store and purchase it from there.. It's ridiculous..

it was this way, back in pes 2016 too. no fix other than all purchasing from same store back then.

dunno about now but i'd be surprised if there was a free workaround.

It's not ideal, but I set manual man marking for the DMF/CMF opposing the other. I find that this instantly creates that midfield resistance I am looking for. It's not exactly 100% man-marking either as in it tethers the mark all the way throughout the pitch. It simply pulls the responsibility that should have been done in the first place. In addition, the transition position is much better, so the midfielders are not running back to a set position.

Very simply, this is how I do it in the gameplan. I'm on the PC so I can edit both User and CPU. I am trying to find a way for consoles, but not sure it can be done without being able to edit the gameplan of the CPU. You may still get a decent match though as your players will be focused on their task - thus instantly retreating back and forth, which could spark the CPU players to do the same.

------------

I'm using Perugia, playing against AC Pisa, the same team from the first video I posted. I just set marking for the central midfielders only, not the LMF or RMF (or AMF if I had one in this formation). For the opposing AMF, I can leave them unmarked, but have also found that putting my CB to man-mark them helps. Only in some rare spots is the CB out of position.

Then do the same for the CPU.

XuedQL.png

That's all I do. No other changes to tactics, advaned instructions, player alignment, fluid formations.

Here's the Result. You wouldn't even know there is any true man-marking going on. It's simply forcing the defending team to pay attention to the ball carrier and intended recepient :

Nice! I wonder if this could help online as well? Atm it's way to easy to just pass you way through the midfield without any problems.

I am very new to PS-era, own ps4 since 2017, but aren't all the PS games region-locked for online?
Or it is up to each game company?

You're welcome. The problem is, i think, that for the occasion of your question, we return to my first reply. Since you are playing a fixed cursor ML you are still dependent on the CPU AI. I mean it is more a "CORE" thing.

Yup. I rely more on the AI being competent than most people.

One day i play and it's decent fun. The next it's genuinely awful. Rinse and repeat. My experience every time i turn this game on should be that drastically varied and whether or not i have fun with it shouldn't come down to what amounts to a coin flip.

It just isn't worth the frustration honestly.

I'm glad to hear people are having fun with it. I truly am. I'm just not one of them.

As much as I tried working with the latest tweaks (midfield marking, 5sec fix, moving back line up high), it ain’t stopping the individual players from being stupid overall.
Sure the midfield got more tight, marking does work in that regard but still they don’t stretch a leg out, position intelligent or walk towards the ball...
so many stupid movements are done and a lot of time passive behavior is still present.

Maybe I wouldn’t notice that so bad if I wasn’t playing that 2017 game a lot.

It is what it is: AI-wise, night and day!
It even translates to the goalkeeper behavior!! Man, are they more active by its own in that old game....!

Does anyone have the knowledge to do a recap on how to fix this game to play better?

I've seen a lot of ideas on how to get this to play better, but if you've been out of the loop for a while it's tough catching up on.
On console and preferably fixes to get ML/League mode to play better.
Would be great

For console, im on PS4, ive tried every tactic and every formations change. But in my opinion the best one is the easiest one and that is to set marking for your midfielders to mark the AI midfielders. See @Matt10 recent post to tell you what to do, takes 10 seconds to do before each game.

you also might want to remove 'deep defensive line' advanced instruction for every team in edit mode of the league you are going to start your ML in. Also very quick and will only take a couple of minutes.

Same. Heck last night i instead my matches with the man marking tweak and then played matches against Brighton, Anderlecht, Sheffield United, Swansea, and Newcastle. And before that, i tried it against West Ham.

Against Brighton at home, my teammates did nothing in attack and struggled to even hold the ball. While Brighton could go the length of the pitch in 4 passes. Stats were pretty much even.

Against Anderlecht, they scored a minute after i did. At about the 70th minute they went attacking and had 7 shots on target in the final 10 minutes of the match. My teammates were incapable of stopping their attacks. De Gea is the only reason we didn't lose this match.

Sheffield match was a worse version of the Brighton match; they had more shots and more possession.

Swansea scored a minute after i did. We ended up playing even match statistically with the last place team in the league.

Newcastle started out attacking and were able to get into the final third with ease because Joelinton won every single header and was able to direct it to a teammate. I'm not exaggerating. I watched it happen over and over again.

I'm not sure what happened the last few times I've played but defensively my team has been so incompetent.

That West Ham match was just like the ones i played yesterday. Defensive struggles as the opposition AI pretty much did what it wanted.

I'm kinda in the same place i was when i stopped playing league of legends; if I'm not having fun when I'm winning, i should go do something else.

Edit: i did play another match. The final one was against Everton and it essentially ping ball. I turned the game speed down to -2 and it stop either my team or Everton from spamming one touch passes even when they had plenty of space and time. So I turned it off.

True.
And when I did (couple of times ;) ), I found fun even when getting a 5:0 beating!

wink wink... ;)

Did you try switching it off and on again....

The game is just so random. Every time I switch it on I get a different experience. For a period I was simply not being challenged in games on Top Player and then all of a sudden I had two really satisfying defeats to Juve and Bayern. It's Juve's first win against me in 7 games in which each game before was far too easy. The game I played against them last night was going the same way but then eventually they put together a nice move with Kane (yes he plays for Juve now) and Ronaldo and after they scored Juve began to dominate me. It felt good to go out of the Coppa Italia with the old rivals Juve overturning a 1st leg defeat....

I also picked up a couple of a wins including a 2:1 win against Bologna which was really satisfying after I went a goal down.

So right now I'm finding Top Player the right sort of challenge.

I can't bring myself to make the uniform changes many on here have proposed. I want to set up my tactics my way and I want other teams to have different tactics which I adjust myself as I go along using Football Manager as a guide. My concern was never really the lack of midfield. More the lack of goals from the CPU who were missing simple one v ones.

PS There were lots of fouls in the Bayern game but still none in either box. I've still not seen any penalties in this game even though I've seen incidents which should have lead to penalties. I've awarded* myself 6 penalties this season in 40 games and about 3 to the CPU......

* The way I'm doing it is if I see an incident that should be a penalty I'm noting it down as a penalty in my head then if my penalty taker (Cavani) scores I will record that goal as a penalty otherwise I will treat the awarded penalty as a penalty miss. For the CPU, given the small number of goals it scores, I will simply award the CPU a penalty if it scores against me. Yes that's all very silly. But so is making a game with no penalties in it.

I can win Euro 2020 with Norway on Superstar, yet on Master League I am struggling hard as Roma.

Džeko seems absolutely useless, as he gets outrun by anyone and I cannot score any headers from any corners or crosses because the AI defenders keeps heading them away or the goalkeeper catches the ball with ease. Whenever I am on the ball with my attacking midfielder, my attackers raise their arm in the air, but when I give them a through ball they run the other way or never accelerate enough to receive the ball.
All my matches end in boring draws and the rare 1-0 victory are usually only due to free kicks.

I tried a 4-2-1-3 formation and a 3-5-2 formation but nothing seems to work for Džeko. When I finally have the ball in the field, the abysmal aiming controls means that I always miss or the keeper saves it. On Basic you don't know where the ball is going and on Advanced you shoot the ball too far away or constantly hit the top post.

I swear I hate this game so much at times but I do not want to give up and I truly hope anyone can advise me on what I am doing wrong. Because I do not understand how easy some of you make it look to score on superstar while I constantly struggle.

game is getting on my nerves

playing exh mode spurs vs a 1.5 star team on legend. cannot beat them at all.

guys - what buttons do you use to jostle? I must be missing something here cos CPU defence seems too strong. my stars should be all over them yet they're not.

also trying a bit of advanced shooting - when I'm running towards the box and have a chance I shoot but every bloody time the ball justsails above the bar. also when i see this I think the ball is too floaty.

feels like i'm missing some core controls yet I seem to get wins at lower difficulties.

…………meh …..do any of you make any rules - like if you are playing against a 2 star team you'll drop difficulty to Pro. and if its against a 5 star team you up it to legend? I get the feeling this is what i'm going to have to do to get this game to work for me.

I had to start a new ML because my saves were all corrupted for some reason and beyond recovery. Playing on SS is already a masochist experience, so imagine playing with 50 TS.

Despite the dificulty and the injustice TS brings to the game, I´ve been using marking settings a lot, and tactics too so I can make some proper pressure and make things dificult to the CPU. 3 matches and 3 wins so far, including against Twente who was in first place, wich normally translates in a very dificult match. Won the match 1-2 with two lucky goals at 87 and 93 mins, one of wich was on a corner.

Rare things happening on this match, and I should have a smile on my face, but the damn match was so hard, and they scored on the usual free kick. I was so pissed that I could barely celebrate.

Had the exact same experience. I find Super Star too frustrating.

The only way to beat the CPU is to play incredibly conservatively. Just use X to pass. Keep passing incredibly simple. Wait an incredibly long time for an opening. Take zero risks. And then when you do get a chance use controlled finishing. And even that might not work...

I use Football Manager to simulate seasons for me and then play matches through Exhibition Mode on Top Player.

Every time I turn on the machine I get a different experience. Mostly I finding it a little too easy but at least I get to try stuff and am not continually frustrated like on Super Star. Occasionally the game ramps up the difficulty. One night I could easily and disappointingly beat Juventus, Barcelona and PSG with my Milan team, the next night I lose to Cagliari and Brescia.

The results are really a mixed bag. For example, I played Cagliari in the first match of the season and won 3:0. I then played them in the second round of matches and lost 0:2. I set up Cagliari's tactics and they were the same in both games. I replayed the matches (just to practice) and just could not beat Cagliari in about 3 attempts. I turned off the computer and turned it back on again and was able to beat them first time! It's just so random.

Before last night I hadn't scored a header from a corner all season and most games were finishing 3:0, 3:1 etc. All of a sudden I had two games in a row where I won 1:0 with headed goals from corners! I then played Brescia (who admittedly I had drawn 2:2 with earlier in the season) and lost 1:0. It took me two replays (again just practicing, the first result is what counts) to beat them!

As I mentioned above, I do have a rather silly "rule". I have not been awarded or concerned a single penalty in nearly 2 seasons so I have introduced a thing where I am awarding penalties to myself and the other team where I see fouls in the box.

PS In answer to your question, there's probably little point in dropping down to e.g. Pro, because the level just seems so random that some Pro games will be harder than others.

You can lean into players when chasing a ball with the directional keys but there is no button to 'jostle'. 9 times out of 10 the AI player will arch his arse and you'll just bounce off him. As you've probably realised this doesn't work in reverse.

Nothing you can do to stop the AI winning the ball from ridiculous angles either. Even if you put your body directly across the defender which should always draw a foul, it doesn't.

If konami are so keen on introducing 'physicality' they need a fairer collision system, better referees and a shielding button.

This, I would also like to have some advice. Or perhaps it's just crap...

I newly discovered, double pressing the cross button when defending is a body „jostle“ against the opponent carrying the ball. Need to think of this more often and use it. Not 100% sure it’s working all the time but I did jostle some players around.

Give it a try mate!

Edit: sure, a game with more physicality could bring more noticeable results.

i'm going to continue experimenting.... a couple days ago I played barca on legend and lost 3-2 - it was an enjoyable game.

but when I play against a 1.5 star team and cannot win, that's when any sort of realism is lost.

available levels are regular/pro/tp/ss/legend.

going forward i think i'll try allocating each team a respective level. i.e. 1 star is regular, 2 star Pro, etc.

if that don't work then i'll wait for DP7. if nothing changes, no way am i buying any future PES.

Is there anyway to make the betters players at receiving passes? Like a button press that I am not aware of? My attackers have lost so many balls due to being terrible at receiving the ball for some reason.

Im convinced the AI plays better dependent on controls - Top player with basic shooting is a different game to top player manual or advanced - the AI seem to play better - maybe its in my head.

Also what has happened to fouls - DP6 first few games i was getting pens and freekicks now im getting 1 or 2 fouls per game - and no pens. The only change i have made is to have man marking
