eFootball PES 2020 Discussion Thread (PS4/Xbox One)

Is there anyway to make the betters players at receiving passes? Like a button press that I am not aware of? My attackers have lost so many balls due to being terrible at receiving the ball for some reason.

Try flicking right stick?
Or r2 hold control

When you are about to receive the ball with you foot, press (you can even hold) R2! It’s like close control when receiving. It works like that for years. I’m using it all the time.
You can also try pressing R3 and in combination with LS; the players flicks recall to where you want (depends on skill level)!

Thanks for telling me that. I also want to ask a question regarding formations and support range. I am tired of having the ball and being pressured by two AI midfielders/defenders while my teammates are far back and do absolutely nothing. Am I doing something wrong with my formations? What works best, flexible or maintain formation?

Also quit "abusing" the sprint button, it helps a lot in ball trapping. I just noticed when i used default controls it can be the problem for the mass, however im using triangle on PS4 for sprint so i cant hold it all the time like the most of the people.

Agreed, especially as the moment you press r1, it immediately triggers the cpu to close you down...

Another good advice, imo!
Sprint button should be the less used button! :D

Give it a try guys, try to play without it just once. Try to focus on NOT to use it at least for a couple of minutes. It’s hard, brain memory and such, but the game plays different then...!
Team mates have time to overrun, strikers getting in position, AI might push on you so you can easily sidestep them or rush by (now with sprint button)!

Slow the whole game down a bit, use R2 to shuffle in close areas, use sprint wisely when it’s needed (remember a real match and how much sprinting is there from a player)!

And finally: AI will behave different because the player does. They follow your mates, wich creates space; they don’t sprint if you dont (all the time)!

Again: slow it down and it will became a football game. At least much closer to the real thing, imo! :)

Edit: I’m talking offense here. Defense is another thing. You have to sprint more for sure. But again: less is more! ;)

Going forwards, pes needs a walk button, or left stick walking.

It also needs to let me play a suicidal high line, a disgracefully physical game and a relentlessly high ball game.
None of these are really possible atm.

In real life I like good football. But in pes I just love been palace or a Wimbledon equivalent, playing football from the dark ages...
Imagine if you could play like Big Sam's early Bolton team...!

Agree. Abusing in sprint button is the worst thing we can do in Pes!!! Adaptive is the magic word. Game adapts to your way of play.

If you lay off sprint it can end up looking quite true to life.

@PRO_TOO
I tried some manual passing as I'm quite enjoying this DP6 plus the 3.5 million tactical fixes we're obliged to add to get a decent game.

And.. I quite like manual this year. The pass variety is much closer to pa1 than in previous years. Before almost every ground pass on manual looked the same.
It's still incredible how the pitch opens up to you.
Two reasons I'm going back to pa1 for now...
It feels quite stressful to think so hard about every pass
And manual crossing does not feel right at all. What's the trick to it?? It feels like I'm launching mis-guided missiles into the penalty area..

If konami are so keen on introducing 'physicality' they need a fairer collision system, better referees and a shielding button.

The whole collision system needs to be redone from scratch imo.

+1 for the sprint less. That was actually something i picked up playing nba games; that carried over to PES and I've been better for it. You're always going to be more agile and in control when you sprint less. Plus change of speed beats a defender as well as anything else.

I hate this game. Because it can be as good as it can be frustrating. I can't remember many games that have as much variance in player experience as this one. In a word, inconsistent.

Can we take a second and acknowledge something that I have never seen happen in this game before. Martial takes on a defender, cuts inside, and scores. I was speechless

In the very same match, Bruno finds me with a pass the very moment I've made it past my defender

This (link) also happened in the same match.....it was kind of a mess

Also, neat goal I scored against Anderlect

Top player, -1, 20 minutes, player cam

This, I would also like to have some advice. Or perhaps it's just crap...

when using advanced shooting I aim low probably 75% of the time and 25% of time I aim middle height. IMO you should never aim for the top corners. If you wanna shoot high, aim middle (by just moving the stick straight up or down) and apply a LOT of power - you can pretty much max out the power bar, it will go pretty high.

low shots are my favorite (aiming away from the goal) with a lot of power as well. It’s a shot that you can not normally replicate using normal shooting (unless you have a lot of space for a long run up) and provides some cool animations and goals.
Turn on the target icon in your control settings so you can see exactly where you are aiming and practice in training mode. Try out shooting mostly low and mid shots, it might change your opinion on advanced shooting.

you need to chill out, man.

i'd strongly suggest playing against a 1.5 star team, using a 4.5 star team, on PA0 on legend, 20 mins for maximum calming effect.

After a few days of being bowled over by the latest dp and matts man marking changes, I'm afraid that empty feeling has crept in again while playing.

It starts with not knowing which teams to play as next (in exhibition mode) and then chopping and changing between matchups without finishing a full match and then wondering if it's the stadium or.ball or time of day or weather I need to adjust to get that feeling of excitement back again and then just a feeling of lifelessness as I'm playing. And then ejecting the disc.
And waiting for the next data pack to roll round and go through it all again...

But definitely don't play a 5 star team....

I've managed to break the game - I played Juve with my Milan team on Top Player and won 7:2.....Juve just collapsed. 5 of my goals came from their mistakes. It was embarrassing.

I had had some challenging games in the run up to it against Roma and Sampdoria and then Juve just collapsed. I had to get out the history books just to see if I could justify the score. I figured Man Utd beat Arsenal 8:2 and Arsenal finished 3rd that year. And it wasn't actually the biggest Milan win against Juve (they had a 7:1 win in 1949 and a 8:1 in 1912...... So I recorded the result.

These are now my results against Juve in this career:

3:2
1:1
1:1
4:1
2:0
1:0
1:3
7:2

That's 5 wins, a draw and a defeat against the best team in Italy.

I try and justify it my head by having commentators talk about how my team has managed to finally figure out Juve and I do these press conferences in my head where I lay out the challenge to the rest of the league and tell the other teams that this shows Juve are not unbeatable and we need to end their embarrassing dominance of the league.

But it feels like I'm trying too hard.....

When it rains on the pitch, does anybody else feel like the game handicaps you?

It's like the pitch condition slows you down but not the COM!

Yeah defensive reaction time is a continual annoyance for me and it just stands out more in the rain. It's exactly the same as playing in -2. Its annoying seeing defenders changing direction without slowing down on any game speed but it's just more noticeable when you have slower reaction time be it in the rain or on a lower game speed

this means you'll have to wait til you get a 7:2 result on FM to continue your career, right?

We'll see you back here in a couple of years.

Lo and behold, I acctually had some enjoyable matches in Online Divisions last night. I really focused on not spamming R1 (which is really hard not to btw, muscle memory and all that) and what I found was that the players around me seemed to move into good positions more often. But I guess it was more due to the fact that I myself got more aware of my surroundings. Either way it was nice.

My technical players felt more agile and nice to control when I started to get used not to automatically use R1 for many situations.

Online is still somewhat of a shitshow since it's such a big difference between the various PA but whatever.

Anyway, good tip!

Don´t forget that spamming the R1 button makes the game hit you with some sort of scripting, to punish you. This is because, several yeras ago, football games were critized beacause "you could pick any player and sprint all the time, without anyone being able to catch you".

they first came with the "catch up bug" to avoid that. Lately is way more balanced, but they have to "punish" you some way, so I believe that your player and even the team plays worse when we hit the R1 button. The game actually wants you to slow down, think and wait.

I've followed this advice and seen a big improvement , I was guilty of nearly almost always holding sprint , now I only use it to burst away over short distances or to quickly close down space , to be fair to Pes the game is what you make it depending on playing style which is probably why people's opinions and experiences differ

Hi!! That new update 6 is absolut bullshit!! I only play offline and ML! I stop playing because that and scripting kills that game.. Very bad move Konami!! Maybe i reinstall and start playing without any updates, direct disc version, it's best!! :D

can you do me a favour, please?

a week or so ago I tried putting the controller down to see what happened. I saw Barca player wait a few seconds before responding.

I just tried the same thing against a 1.5 star team and the CPU just stands there for a minute before reacting.

please can you try the same on disc version?

because when I see this kind of thing I can only conclude this game is playing me.

does this happen in all other difficulty levels?

this is a game-breaker for me - at least on legend.

need to know cos i am on the verge of putting this game down til dp7.

(does this happen on pes 2017 too?)

Ha ha!

Nah. All I need is for the results to match, not the scores.

I then only need to adjust the goal difference and the points and finishing places are the same (obviously goal difference can make a difference but in Italy it’s decided on a head to hear basis).

This then allows for the transfers and manager changes etc to be consistent with the results I’m getting on the pitch in PES.

I finally saw a penalty. Twice!

After my colossal 7:2 win v Juve I crashed back down to earth with a satisfying defeat in the derby to Inter in which I conceded, not one, but TWO penalties!

The first was entirely my fault and the second was entirely made up by the computer, but hey, I’ll take what I can.

I saved the first which was disappointing but guessed the wrong way for the second. Inter won 1:0 and I was over-the-moon because I saw a penalty in the game.

Coming to the end of my second season (and a load of other practice games played as well) and these were the first two penalties I’ve seen in the game. Still haven’t been awarded a penalty despite seeing fouls in the box which I awarded to myself!

Following the marking advice by @Matt10 has anyone tried using players to join the attack setting. It says in the description players who will join the attack in set pieces but I set it for my 3 forwards salah, mane and firminho and in open play they felt so much more lively all killing themselves to get in the box , normally mane and salah stay out wide..can someone try it see what you think
