eFootball PES 2020 Discussion Thread (PS4/Xbox One)

can you do me a favour, please?

a week or so ago I tried putting the controller down to see what happened. I saw Barca player wait a few seconds before responding.

I just tried the same thing against a 1.5 star team and the CPU just stands there for a minute before reacting.

please can you try the same on disc version?

because when I see this kind of thing I can only conclude this game is playing me.

does this happen in all other difficulty levels?

this is a game-breaker for me - at least on legend.

need to know cos i am on the verge of putting this game down til dp7.

(does this happen on pes 2017 too?)

yup rubbish game

just tried a few matches again - putting players to join attack, switching of opponent deep def line, switching on their gegen press. same problems - AI don't move when controller's down.

tried with 1.4. same result.

then i tried this on pes 2017. same thing!!!

wow!!!

surely this is a fundamental flaw - probably deliberate so that it means more people are pushed to online beacuse there they will have a proactive opponent.

if this problem is there in 2017 i don't think disc version of 2020 will be any better and nor do i think DP7 willl correct things.

i lost patience but i just tried adjusting my opponents attack level and that seems to correct things. unfortunately, CPU auto adjusts their attack level.

meh.

after sussing out how MyClub worked and beating that addiction i was waiting for another eureka moment and this is it.

a poorly implemented game that ends up requiring me to adjust settings of my opponent to try and get the best out of it..

its over.

Edit : and just tried this on my FIFA 19 - CPU AI detects opponent controller down within 1-2s and will make efforts to take the ball off my player.

so CPU AI in FIFA is more PROACTIVE and CPU AI in PES is more REACTIVE. Eureka.

Hmm, that´s weird, it shoudn´t be the purpose of that instruction but who knows? I´ve been using the marking settings a lot as it forces the players to stay on certain positions. I even had a match were I instructed my ST to mark the CPU AM. Obviously he doesn´t mark him cause he´s too far, but it makes my ST a bit more defensive when I need to. Sometimes I also send my DM or CM to mark their strikers for the same reason. This way, they keep a deeper position and usually they help stoping that gap between the midfield and the defensive line.

Last matches have been almost like a chess challenge because of tactics, always studying the CPU moves, and adjusting instructions throughout the match so I can stop their attacks. I won my derby against Ajax, 1-0, from a direct free kick. Very very hard match, they always attack me with everything and I can only rely on fast long counter attacks. Before that, I won against VVV 5-0. Not usual, and it wasn't an easy match, but tactics broke the CPU and also, my players were very effective.

Having some great matches but yeah, it all depends on the session... Sometimes every match is a pain and I see goals going in against me just because. But yesterday was a joy. Currently on first place, 6 points ahead of Ajax. That´s new!

I'm genuinely interested in your post and I'm not being facetious when I say this...

I'm not sure I see the problem here? Just dont put your controller down and play the game instead?

I've gone off the game, maybe for good so I'm in no way a cheerleader but how does this make for a fundamental flaw?

Mate. Best way I can put it :

If you are playing PES you are playing with yourself.

Dont you feel that's an overreaction to the cpu not closing down when you put the controller down?

I'm not digging at you, genuinely. I just cant see through the logic of what you're saying... are you saying the issue is a symptom of a greater problem, or that it is the problem itself?

not really an overreaction. my assumption in a footy game is that there is a pause button if i need to pop the controller down. if i pop the controller down and don't pause i expect there to be consequences.....like in real life the opponent won't just stand in front of you doing nothing for 90mins.

i can go a 90min match on legend and draw it 0-0 with 98-100% possession. lol.

i think this is a fundamental flaw and a massive eyeopener (for me) regarding how this game is built. I'm not impressed. It doesn't meet my expectations. I would love to be able to igore this but I just can't.

I add this finding to the recent comments about not sprinting to open up the game. what?!.....if i want to sprint the punishment should be fatigued players later in the game - not that if I sprint I will be auto-tackled. 1+1=3 in this game i.e. it is nonsense.

its taken me a while (years) to get to this very point. from the beginnig of MyClub in 2015 I saw huge potential. Then I saw that potential was not going to be realised after PES 2016 and 17 MyClub. I had to overcome myclub addiction and mve to offline - 2018 was the transition. In 2019 I developed a modding addiction. This year I managed to focus the most I ever have on the offline element. I unlocked legend level and, make good time to play games and analyse them, blah blah....and here I am 25 Apr 2020.

For years I was under some false impression that I could guide this game to being something better. I've stopped caring now cos I've finally realised its futile effort.

I'm going to try not play PES at all next few days and hopefully transition to something more enjoyable. I'll be keeping up with comments on this great forum tho.

Fair enough, it seems like it's just one part of a whole load of stuff that's pissed you off, the straw that broke the camels back.

For me its that pa1 is so on rails, even compared to pes 12 - 15 and its increasingly becoming a deal breaker for me as the game feel strangled. That and the lack of stat influence on passing and shooting. And the fact that shots are generally in a straight line.

He means that the CPU AI or the game AI, or the adaptive AI, or the adaptive difficulty AI, or the cheating AI, or the scripting/handicap/boost/ AI,or the AI than is reading your controller input, OR all the above AI is practically punishing the human player for trying to play actual football. It works like it has motion sensors. Stay standing and you are invincible. Move slightly and you have chances. Sprint or dribble and you are doomed.

I have talked about this last year, during the week I beat Legend difficulty challenge in MyClub. The AI punishes you every time you try to play football.Thats why in the last minutes if you are 1-0 ahead, the biggest fault you can do is try to attack. The most efficient, since the CPU will have red attacking mentality and will press you either way, so you cannot get away pretending you are a scarecrow, is to do the next most simple anti-creative thing, change passes in your defensive third, but only with (X) button.
It is also connected with the no-sprint case. In general the most simple you play vs the CPU the more difficult is for them. I don’t know if it is programmed to countermirror your input or the are programmed with a set of scripts in response to your button.

Finally about this “late” discovery of not spamming SPRINT , I am a little bit shocked when I read it from people who play the game every year, cause AFAIK it is a common knowledge since PES 3, when the current movement system on rails started. Every movement without sprint was always more precise. The rest side effects on pes2020 just shows what @Alx1234 said. And what I believe, the AI is just counter-mirroring inputs.

so mobile has already moved to UNREAL 4 engine, animations look smooth considering.
so PS5 pes should use this engine, it's needed.
As far as I know, the mobile version still uses the Fox Engine in the background. UE4 is only used as some sort of graphical wrapper. It's not a native UE4 game.

Back in the day when you played your mates irl no one spammed R1 but it has more or less always been useless online.

When I used to play manual/PA0 online I used it more. But as soon as you go PA1 and above it's suicide online. It worked better than I expected tbf. Pressuring is still to OP though, so spamming R1 and bashing the pass button is still the way to win...

I meant spamming R1 when you are on attack, moving, dribbling etc. Of course spamming on defense mode is still a thing. The only PES that i felt was rewarding to use the R1+:x: precisely was again PES 2018, but 2018 had a totally different feeling of movement and body control, which belongs in history records and will never come back the coming years.

On spamming R1 on attacking dribble control, i remember especially since PES 5, ( cause PES4 had still that arcade feeling where you could run 90 minutes smashing the R1) on of the first reviews every year on PES forums about the current demo was "You must now be very carefull when you press R1 to sprint while on control of the ball".

Finally using sprint on PES is similar to driving a small speedboat in the sea, for those who have experience. Once you have caught the "water current" (rail) and you have "clear sea/field ahead, you can hit R1, sprint and run on steady pace. If there are opponents and you are going to make quick turns, you are derailed too easy, like you hit the waves on sea while driving a boat.

just spent 15 mins firing up 2016, 18, 19 - first few in-game minutes of an exh match..

16 seems to have the most proactive AI. the others i can stay still and will ball will not be taken off me,

First ML game in ages on this, probably since patch 3

Game felt pretty good, much better than before, less bs from the CPU on attack (cross+top corner finish)

Still a lot of bs in CPU defence though, perfect tackles all the time, always catching up/shoulder barge my players off the ball.
All those things comes when you have a very potent player up front, defense wins 9/10 balls/crosses/challenges
Either by becoming very good all of a sudden or my player up frin, reacts much slower, hesitate when sprinting etc

I play with Lecce,my 65-72 overall players has much more luck/succes than my 89-90 ovr.
Plain cheating.

ML settings
20 minutes
Top player
Pass assist zero

I think i might just say screw it and stick to professional and just pretend that my United team is the best one ever and Greenwood, Martial, and Rashford (and me) are the new Ronaldo, Rooney, and Tevez.

Been thinking that even TP now isn't worth it.

Interesting chat about spamming Sprint. I'm in the club: a couple of months ago I was getting really frustrated at how I just couldn't get the better of the AI on Legend. So I decided to tone down sprinting, as was crucial in the two best PESes of all time (that's 3 and 5, in case you're wondering), and hey presto.

It feels like a different game to me. A better game. I'm getting results and when I'm not I'm being beaten by the better team and not screwed over.

Now I only sprint when I'm in behind the defence; when I see the grass. I'm undoing years of Frostbite FIFA conditioning with Sprint being held down for 90 minutes.

I had to go down to Pro to get any enjoyment out of the game. Yes it's too easy but on TP and above most games were ending 1-0 with me and the CPU having two shots each. I don't know what that is but it's not football.

I try to keep alive my new ML save after DP 6.0 or 5.0, cant remember. Due to time pressure i play one match every third or fourth day. TopPlayer 10 minutes. The matches were already boring, but the fact that i play only one match and then i switch off the console, does not kill it at all . It seems like one of those workarounds my friend @Alx1234 is looking for. :P :P
But today after i finished my game, i realised that all matches were like Groundhog Day. Every time i am 2-0 ahead, then on second half i can't make the ball go in goal by any method, then the CPU goes berserk, it goes 2-1, then i see that it is hopeless to play football and i start time wasting, spammimg short passes with (X). So no matter the team i win every match 2-1. If the matches were consecutive and i was n't play one match ever 3~5 days (real life time), it would be disgusting, now it is just passable.

In more serious notice, genuine question;: Has anybody tried to play with CURSOR CHANGE settings to ASSISTED? I ask cause i play by default to semi-assisted. I am suspicious it works better on assisted.

In a moment of frustration I uninstalled the game yesterday after repeting 4 matches, at least 3 times each. I hat doing that but I got to that point on the season (about mid season) were my team, wich was playing very nicely, can´t do s@£t. I mean, playing SS, 20 minutes PA1. I set the tactics before each match, marking settings, line height, pressure etc etc. My team is a 75ish overall, with players with 80 overall. Really the second best on this League. Matches are quite hard on SS, but until midseason it´s quite fair.

As soon as I hit midseason, the scripting is ubelieavable. I don´t mind loosing a match, even when I´m playing well. But this nonsense I´ve seen on the last 5 or 6 matches was simply unnaceptable, capable of leaving Ghandi on a furious Godzilla like moment. I´ve seen it all, players with 60 overall wich are stronger, faster and deadlier than my 80 ones. I have to shoot more than 10 times to get a goal, my strikers wich were the best scorers on the league (Mitroglou and Malen) now miss every single easy shot, and I mean EASY!!!! I even seen them missing two open goal oportunities. Crossing is hopeless, I can´t tackle anyone, CPU plays like gegenpress all the 90 minutes with no stamina afecting them on some matches, etc etc etc. I´m dominating all the matches due to tactics, I really am! Always around 60% possession, 18 shots with an average 10 on target... 18 shots!!! every single match!!! And I couldn´t win a single one, even against teams with 65 OVR. I literally destroy them, but there´s an invisible barrier on the box, wich stops the ball from going in. It´s this kind of unballance that screws the game completely.

If I play well, I want to win, with the odd draw or even loss here and there. But 6 consecutive losses just because I was playing too good!?? Fu@£ you. I don´t need this shit.

You know what was better? One of the matches I eventually got tired of loosing by the tipical first or second CPU shot on goal, I simulated the result: 4-0 for my team. Absolutely... I don´t even know what to call this anymore. I quit.

Playing manual is not for me, I love the individuality of my players on assisted... it´s there, I see it. Playing PA1 on Top Player, believe it or not, I win 90% of the matches by 3-0 or more. This means it´s over for me.

Hate these kind of games, wich are scripted as hell to create "challenge" and dificulty. I call it "lazyness" and "lack of creativity and balance". Like I said, really love the look and feel of the game, but I don´t need frustration on something that should give me pleasure instead.

As i said before my playstyle is very repeatitve . Most time i run with my SS/WF and try to pass to my CF. Cross is the desperate option. Besides this my teamate's AI who is CPU controlled, is very dull as i watch him and try to find him free for a tap-in. He either stays to close to the penalty spot being outzoned by the super-human CPU defense, or he decides to move very late or very early making my short pass look stupid and astray to void.

Instead of this i have an example of a video of mine from PES 2016. Check in the video from 05:31 up to 06:00, my CPU controlled teamate, PAZZINI the CF No9, how he is moving and trying to find space and take the best possible position to recieve the pass/cross. In contrast to this, my CPU controlled CFs when i advance with an other player, on PES 2020 keep making the most stupid decisions and take the worst positing or stand still very much time.

So what difficulty does everyone recommend for a pleasant experience? Doing the midfield marking changes etc before game and less r1 spamming of course.

My best experience is top player, PA1 Advanced shooting. Midfield marking set and i have my attackers set to players joining the attack. IMO PA1 keeps individuality and manual just kills it, adv shooting gives you more control and variation so kind of a sweet spot, i have auto faint on as thats how i seem to win more pens

Thank you for the advice my friend.
I play with PA1. Not sure on my shooting just on default. I'm not great on manual shooting. I do play on tp.. But been trying to win 5 times on SS but finding it hard to be honest.

Does anyone have any tips for beating the cpu on Superstar.. I feel ashamed even asking being that I've been playing iss/pes since 98. But, on SS, seems like it's impossible. Won 4 games but they were all a struggle. Usually I play on top player. So any advice guys please?

For those who believe that the "transfermakrkt" database is not shallow and that is applies after the first 1-2 seasons, just check the video below. Also it shows how broken the regens system still is. The best players on ML in season 2034-2035 are 87 OPR (this seems that maybe he SIM-ed the seasons for testing purposes) and many of the top rated of them play for clubs like:Free Agent/others, Luzern, Atletico Go, Benevento, West Ham, Trat, Luton Town, Al Wahda, etc,etc and similar!
