Can only go by own experiences, but I’d say a bit of new and a bit old mashed together.
When you flick it you can do very sharp movements you cannot do with the left stick, but if you hold it, after a while your player will face the goal and it works the same as R2 did last year.
I personally get much more use out of the finesse touch. Using someone like Pogba it’s great when you use it to get him immediately into a good position, and he then has the power to just drive straight through the midfield. Nice to use it in the box too and immediately shoot afterwards.
I assumed finesse dribbling was to be used in tight spaces, but funnily enough thats where I just can’t seem to get any use out of it. It’s great to move around but making sure your player is always facing the right direction when he passes, basically using it the same as R2 last year, but helping to get round players in the box? I just can’t work out how to use it effectively in that situation.
Out on the wing is where I think finesse dribbling really fails. I just get annoyed. Im so used to holding R2, making my player go sideways, while using the right stick to do little dummies and wait till the right opportunity to do a little skill. I can’t do that now without having to constantly let go of finesse dribble, flick right stick to step over, then holding it again for the skilled dribble.
