eFootball (All Platforms)

Interest in the game is declining. I must stress this is only on PC. I would wage a bet this is true for consoles as well.

great news!!! the quicker the demise, hopefully means the quicker the resurrection. I've probably installed and then deleted efootball a total of 3 times since its beginning. Won't even bother looking at the game until I see a total overhaul. Wonder when they'll scrap this mess and start all over, or do what I thought they should have done from the start - build on pes 2021 and bringing it to next gen levels.

Resurrection by whom? PES/eFootball brands and code remain Konami's IP. If they decide to bury the franchize, they won't hand-over their assets to interested parties.
Whoever wants to make new spiritual footy successor needs to basically start from scratch.
And we do have "bright" examples of newcoming games such as UFL and one more perhaps, all poor-man FUT wannabies.

cute but PC/Consoles are just nice addition to mobile casino

I've thought about the whole eFootball situation, from it's announcement to how it all went down on release and since then, due to a conversation with friends in the last few days. Well, we're Brazilian, so football's always a topic, and my friend groups in general enjoy video games, so football video games can show up as one of our topics from time to time when we're just talking randomly, in this case in our free time at our internship. I recalled conversations I've already had before with other friends, and saw people saying online, many years ago... that since football video games don't change much from year to year, it'd be better for consumers in the long run if companies took advantage of our current technology, which allows for updates, and just made a single installment that they'd update, perhaps with some major yearly updates, but still a more continuous thing... and you know what, I do agree with that, even though I do feel that there's a chance of there being less changes in the long run with such a system, no engine changes for example, and that I enjoy having physical media... it's not something that can't be worked around, with offline modes being released as DLC, and there being a physical release that comes with all DLC installed.

When I look back at Konami's situation back when PES2021 came out, it's understandable why they'd go with F2P, their main competitor has more resources for licenses, more people working on it... and way more sales, the public perception of FIFA had already surpassed the iconic Winning Eleven years ago... so how do you turn things around in that situation? Well, with PES being a success on mobile, and all PES Lite releases also being positive for Konami, it's no wonder they went with this... but that's not what upsets me, it's that if eFootball had been well executed... it could've been genuinely perfect in the long run.

I know this might sound strange, but lets imagine this setting. It's late 2021, and Konami has been working on an Unreal Engine PES for a few years, with its mobile port being the lowest common denominator, and they intent on having cross play from the get go, which would solve PES' issue of it being difficult to find people to play with online, especially on XBOX consoles, they've managed to recreate PES' game play quite well for mobile hardware and, thanks to their new Unreal Engine, they're able to release it for everything, with jaw dropping graphics on PC, PS5 and XBOX Series X. It eventually comes out, F2P and all online players hop in and enjoy their Dream Team mode full of cards, on the same day Konami releases DLC for offline modes such as Master League, and a physical release with all DLC installed. It plays well, graphics are good on next generation machines, online players can enjoy it for free as long as they don't buy packs, offline players have their modes and disk at a lower price than what FIFA offers, cross play makes sure that there are always a bunch of players online to play with, mobile players enjoy a console accurate experience, and at the end of each year we pay for offline again and they release a new disk.

Well, with all of this in mind, probably with some actually not dreadful marketing, and proper UI/HUD design alongside a logo that's more sophisticated, or maybe going for the traditional Winning Eleven name instead of rebranding it to eFootball... and Konami could've seriously taken a step in dominating once again like they did in the PS2 days, since they'd have a cheaper and more accessible product than FIFA, that'd also cost less in the long run, and with a huge player base thanks to mobile. I seriously think that Konami could've made something truly special for both modern and old school players... they just blew it.

You cant even intercept and tackle now. Players just ball watching and reacting upon script request. Messi has better interception skills than Viera.
Shambolic turd.

As cool and easy as the updating one game seasonally is, it brings it's own issue. Let's say it was still PES, and not eFootball, and they did this seasonal update thing. If I wanted to play an old match, like 2021-22 season, I now can't, because the teams are overwritten. Whereas if I want to play 2016-17, I just play the game for that season. I agree that it's easier and perhaps cheaper than buying a new game year after year, but for us who like to play older games, it means either we miss out, or we play that season's Fifa (or technically, there will be a PES6 patch that has that season also)

I agree 100% with what you're stating, it's one of my main issues with the model aswell, for example, eFootball2022 has been replaced by eFootball2023 for some time now, and what happened to eFootball22? It doesn't exist anymore, if there were any cards, kits, players and squads you liked from that which were removed when going from one year to the next, well... it's gone for good. When we play older football video games, they can essentially function as a sort of time capsule for that year, for that period of time in real football, and it's a blast to be able to do that. One thing they could do is make it so thi hypothetical disk release doesn't update and gets forever stuck with the last version of that year in it somehow, I don't know how viable that actually is, maybe releasing a last update for the disks that essentially gives them an unique eFootball/PES download file different from the F2P one that's in digital stores, something like that...

What, does that mean KONAMI is actually working on a ML mode? 😲
Yeah think Konami confirmed they are adding a ML mode but they've been vague on the details of when exactly.

We're lucky we're even getting one as there's not much of an incentive if any for Konami to develop one as more than enough people are playing this online and spending money on the game anyway which is what the company wants.

Still, I won't be complaining. A ML & Edit mode with allow for a reasonable offline distraction for this game (and maybe finally unlock the bizarrely locked match length and difficulty levels for offline).

They already confirmed that they would add this last year, they just don't know when. Rumors say that this will be a new chapter of efootball, where there will be many changes in the game itself, gameplay, and we will see how much this is true.

I'd call ML & Edit mode the real deal, and online and card-collecting the distraction. :)
Yeah I'll drink to that.

I don't even hate the idea of the online fantasy football genre EA & Konami have popularised, it's basically an online, old-school master league in some ways. My main disgust with it is the predatory, exploitative nature of it especially in EA's case. And my beef with eFootball's online is that the actual online match experience is totally different to the online one because the latency alone makes it unplayable but also it's an experience built upon systems of handicapping and scripting.

Your skill as a football gamer is irrelevant online when the game constantly rotates through dozens of contrived predetermined scenarios to create the illusion of challenge and drama but it's so blatantly fraudulent you'd be better off playing the ring toss when the rigged circus comes to town.

That's likely. This games' identity and polish has changed a lot since the very first official build of eFootball. Hopefully, there'll be another big revamp sooner than later much in the same vein Fortnite does with its new seasons.

CO-OP beta is the best news since.. the release... I hope to be at least 3 vs 3 but.. .that is Konami, they are lazy as *** so they will go back 16 years and bring " revolutionary " 2 vs 2...

Indeed, co-op would open up a whole new dimension of this game.

At this point I'd happily take 2 v 2 for the moment being.

I sure hope they don't cock it up!

Great, more fake news on ML from twitter. It doesn't matter what someone finds in the game's files. Until there is an official announcement about it's potential release, and unless there is a beta test for players, It means nothing! We've speculated for 2 fucking years and nothing has materialize.

I'm just as annoyed with this as much as I am with Coinami's abysmal treatment of this game and their business model.

Regarding co-op online: in PES you could see a list of all public match rooms where you could join, this seems to be missing from eFootball?

Does anyone know how you go about finding a co-op match room where you could join?

It's clear that they built this mode from ground zero! I understand that this is just a beta test, and this will be the worst state of the mode, I guess it will eventually get better from here, but the decision not to have matchmaking, for me, is a huge mistake and will kill the coop beta test very quickly. In two days no one will be playing it anymore.

what do you mean by 'not to have matchmaking'? Only restriction seems to be playing friendly matches instead of ranking ones.

What I mean by matchmaking is that you can only play with people in your own room. You can't play against other rooms or teams, and you can't search for opponents. To find opponents, you either need to invite friends to join your room or search for players on Discord servers.
