Instead of technology and improvements going forward, it is going backwards with football games. A few years ago we couldn't wait for September to get to play the new game, and now I'm playing the older games because what we have now is just a mockery. Even the competitor is bad as it goes. I really don't see in the near future that we will have a proper football game to enjoy. But as long as FUT and Dream Team "players" are happy, this will continue to be the amazing trend.
Didn't saw that post it appeared hours after i posted : yes you're right on the big line, but engine is very important.
A game need of course good core engine (Fox is very good but complicated to program) but based on Football.
Looks at Fifa current state. Isn't supposed to be a "more powerful" engine than FIFA 14? I brought the PS4 version, it's running on the older core engine for physics with Ignite for animations transitions. And it's MILES ahead in terms of logic and footballistic philosophy for gaming than all the others which followed.
Miles ahead in natural. Because they have choosen to build the game as it is : the core engine is doing some job, but if you don't respect it, you will got bugs and issues.
It also works for gaming in general. Some games are technically very basic but artistically above all (Bloodborne as an example).
I see an engine for physics or animations and development like a pilot and a car.
If a random good pilot take a the best F1 model, and Max Verstappen or Hamilton take the worst one, the random averagely good will be late from 15 laps against Verstappen (i like him lol that's why i place Max, but not his team at all). Well gaming is not a run but it's just an image.
Now back on earth, an engine should be calibrated for the supposed game on every area, not the most powerful ever for every game : like an engine ONLY for football, evolutive and made for sequels and a 5-8 years duration maximum.
I'm also playing old game FTM and don't care at all about the new ones. But sometimes, i fucking want something new and a bit Next-gen.
But i agree and i'm "mmmhh, no" in the same time : i think to have everything doable on football, you need tons of algorithms and like you said a good dev to handle it. The most algorithms you will got, the most possible variation you will got in game. Now, i'm against "automatic animations" like Hypermotion is a big no : that's not the engine to handle it : it's the artistic part that should play, in part with the physical engine/linked to animations engine for less repetitiveness. But that's already the case in PES 2021 and Efootball... Animations aren't the problem.
The new ball physics is dumbed down and you can see the results : it's bad. And if there's something that shouldn't even be programmed but created as an entity (so ONLY the engine or the way it's programmed should matter for that part : the rest will follow) : it's the ball, center of everything, god of the pitch.
