eFootball (All Platforms)

So in a few words, KONAMI has created one of the best football games gameplay wise but they won't give us any proper offline modes.
Out of interest, what makes you give it that high praise?

I've only played one match of the new release (so a very small evidence base), and two things still ruin it for me – no midfield (but that's par for the course in modern football games sadly) and terrible target locking. The latter is a FUMA issue really, but I get no enjoyment from assisted play any more unfortunately.

I think the only thing I have genuinely liked in all the builds I've tried so far is the dribbling sensitivity, and maybe that the tactical options (though ridiculously limited) are more coherent than normal.

There's less assistance from teammates about interception yes, mentality stats serves only for you it seems. Less and lesser for the players you can't control : there's a small bit of awareness even if it's subtle. Not at the level it should be.
We can't control more than one controller with 6 fingers max, no one is Goro. So yes, they kinda found another way not that footballistic, not depleasant to play but if you want the real thing from the start to the end... Like we all want, i think it's the end of it.

But i played offline and there was a bit more midfield. But i was pretty aggressive defensively. You didn't needed it on previous games which tried to represent/not totally with everything related on it.

Due to the 10 minutes limits which is too short in my opinion if you represent visually and technically the real size of everything especially the pitch.
Making the pitch way bigger was essential for the visual evolution, but it brings less midfield. Even if on the 2 previous versions it was much more physical and defensive (balanced to me)
Sorry we can't talk without example from the past if you want to talk about the present. But they founded a way to got a bit more midfield. Not from PS2 level but the pitch was pretty small.

In Efootball they toned it, harder to defend in number. But you can have some midfield situations time to time, or if you're agressive + CPU superstar, where in some others game it's an absolute zero whatever you do.

Edit: Let's hope one day, some neo-retro but for sim sports games makes a comeback. Like they did with Indies and pixels arts right now more than ever, and since around 7-8 years.
2000-2015 (even 2021) era with their high and low can't disappears like it never existed. A golden era always inspire young people, but ATM we're entering in another shitty one. I don't care if it's next-gen or PS4 level, but i would like a something balanced and with high fidelity regarding sports games as they were.

I'm not saying the game is perfect, far from it. It's a good football game though offline in Legend difficulty. I like how cpu AI is varied at this level. Plenty of fouls even at 10min, dribbling is good. If we had the option for 25min it would be even better. 10min only makes you rush things, it's too short. I've had a lot of midfield action and again with 25min would be even more interesting.
I don't know, I'm really enjoying the gameplay.

Good for you. I agree about what happen on the pitch vs CPU, it's miles different than online from what i saw.
You know why (won't repeat) i don't or won't play if it stay in that case even with a DLC offline.

Otherwise bugs like ball passing through head exists since forever, at different level and number of it, it's kinda became rare on EF.
But it shouldn't exist since more than 8 years years, decreased more and more. Same contact system in 2022, i know football games are hard to produce but every kind of contact should be resolved by a new system.

Even if it's different like a "visual bug" and the player jumped too late, but are showed jumping in real time in game (so fake jump/real visual contact).

To be fair Unreal Engine handles the collisions system way better. I have won already a lot of penalties.

No mate, it's something way more important than collisions. That part is just a mention about that post. Bugs showing became rare (well people playing it too lol)
Now yes you're right, it's basic but + accurate. i can deal with it.

But everything related to ball physics/kicking (so ball reactions on passes, shoots, head. Ball physics was even better on PES 3) on my previous posts, didn't wanted to repeat but you force me bro lol.
To me it's a big no. There's no rythm, no kicking, everything seems pushed, and shooting except some volley programmation don't have any variation in speed.

We complained on PES 2015 to X PES it's not the subject about shoot and pass trajectory variation, now it's all about rythm and different way to kick or push the ball not represented accurately at all : just a big slow volleyball full of water, in rubber.

I'd say there are some enjoyable things about the eFootball Demo Experience. I do like the sharp-stuff, especially for shots and crosses. But when I went back to PES 2021 Update Experience, I had to admit that it has One: Functional manual passing, and two: Is an actual game.

I have to admit, I play this way more than I should.

Every now and then I try a game in FIFA 22 but mostly I often give up before halftime, just can't stand FIFA anymore.
I continued my ML save in PES 2021, but after around 10 games or so it became boring an repetitive again. Played even some PES 2015 and 2019, had quite some fun but I don't feel I can play them for longer.

So in the end of the day I always come back to this half-assed demolike experience. Only offline, nothing much to do instead of playing way to short matches with the same teams again and again, but I really do enjoy the gameplay. I really do like the dribbling and to be honest I already saw more variation in goals than in 3 years of PES 2020/21. What a sad state of football games.

This is probably the worst place to make this statement, but anyway: As someone who's been playing this game everyday since the 1.0 came out in April, I'm actually enjoying the 2.0 very much now and I'm actually glad I gave it some time and didn't put out a video "review" immediately. It's a good thing when a football game needs time to settle. I must say -even with its shortcomings, and even online, and even as an exclusive offline player the past 30 years, from a pure gameplay prespective (not modes etc): eFootball 2023 plays a better game of football than PES ever did. Now before you get triggered, yes, there are shortcomings like:

- Yes, the way the ball launches out of feet, whether its for passing or shooting or crossing, feels "wrong" compared to PES. And yes this is a basic thing that affects the overall feel of the game.

That said, player switching isn't ideal on manual, but in 2.0 it's much better.
The "blind" Keeper exits have been almost completely fixed

Overall, the reduced inertia placed more emphasis on the passing game, and I've found that I'm now passing more commonly to the midfield, and building attacks in a much more "realistic" way. Even when I'm playing online against Mbappe/Haaland teams, there's a lot more "probing" for attacks and open lanes happening in eFootball 2023, from both teams. Straight dribbling has been nerfed, but you can still take over a player if you have the inertia advantage.

Like how Trent runs off with this ball using his inertia:

Off ball player runs are a world of difference vs PES. They're just more lively and make runs that make sense:

I'm always delighted to see a player try the kick off glitch and fail (although I've recorded it work several times, but much less than before).

Even on manual controls, where the "script" won't affect my pass/shot power and accuracy, I find that I can still come back from a 0-2 defeat and it feels great:

Needless to say, offline, Legend AI in EF23 is leagues better to engage with than in any PES version. Should Konami release offline modes, it will be way more fun to play. Whenever they take that plunge.

Did i read correctly theres no updates for 6 months? Does that mean no more teams and no chance of any form of single player mode for at least 6 months?

It’s the appropriate thread. Don’t see what’s wrong with posting it here. 🤷‍♂️

Hmm I don't know about that. I personally don't expect any offline modes or edit modes to be available before Q1 2023 after the winter transfers.

Agreed on general single player enjoyment.

Teammate AI is really quite great at times...overlaps, underlaps, and then play as Bayern, with a 4-4-1-1 and it's very slow, studied buildup play.
If you want a rapid fire attack, the AI will support you. If you want to hold back, they'll make triangles with you.

Just drop your cm's into a mid or low block, make no moves towards the ball, just hold position and you can really close the opposition out. Just drop back and defend the area. But you can also press, get right up to the opposition, harry them back. There's no sense of the AI being untouchable. It's a limited sandbox, but it features genuine, free-to-play sand.

If they could get ball physics at the variety level of FIFA, without the eccentricity, it would be a significant step forward.

I do think it's left pes well behind. I've felt pes was stale since pes 2008 (pes 14 and 17 being honourable exceptions). This game feels fluid, free, and dynamic. And theres more and more detail being added with each patch to attacks and patterns of play, which is closing the detail gap on pes.

I'm playing on ps4 pro and this feels just as a ps4 pro game should feel. For those seeking a genuine next gen pes game, I can see how disappointment would be their primary response.

This is strictly for PC users and strictly pertaining to player vs AI: It would be interesting to see this version compares with gameplay mods from Holland, esim, and others for PES 2021, 20, 19, 18.

I say this because most of us who play PES for PC use mods. I was ok with vanilla PES 2021. I did not enjoy PES 2020 gameplay at all. Movement felt so restricted in that game. Loved 18 and 19 was alright. The games feel different once you start using gameplay mods.

It's like Skyrim or GTA 5. Until you try the mods, the vanilla game feels meh. If the devs allowed expansive modding capabilities for Efootball that exists with PES, then I think we have might something special.

Because the gameplay fluctuates from update to update, next month's "big update" could be a bag of shit, and we all end up with something we don't like. It's in their DNA. This is why some of us rely on gameplay mods so much because Coinami have a tendancy to undo improvements to the gameplay. If you didn't like a particular update or data pack, modders were there to help with that.

I've exclusively played PES with PC mods since 2018 maybe. That said, gameplay mods didn't change much tbh, and I always found myself going back to vanilla PES gameplay, whose gameplay I loved (till I played eFootball 1.0 vs Legend). Tactical mods are something else and they made the game a ton more fun. Gameplay mods didn't fix player runs, and they often fixed one thing by breaking another. And of course, PC mods won't add things like a new defending system, ball interceptions, and a way to control when a 'more defined' shot or cross will be made, which all change the way the game is played.

Have u seen diving headers or scissor kicks?

I can't remember the last time I even saw a diving header in PES....

I meant it more in terms of surprising situations, crappy goals, deflections and so on. Back then, PES was known for the fact that no two goals were alike. I personally felt that this was gone in the last iterations and that it's back in eFootball now.
