I don't have a problem with free-to-play and charging dlc for ML, actually. I have a problem with the game having shitty gameplay. As terrible as I thought the beta was and this latest look doesn’t give confidence , the strategy itself isn’t surprising to me.
PES won’t be the last IP to go this route, ever since the success of the likes of Ultimate Team and the Free to play stuff like Fortnite, executives across publishers will always be looking at ways to fill their wallets more and more.
Look at the PS3/360 generation, Call of Duty became a ginormous IP throughout those systems life cycles and other publishers wanted in on that so we got a stream of First Person Shooter titles looking to cash in.
It’s all about the money, even outside of gaming. Look at YouTube, a few years ago who would of thought a uploader would only recognise a comment if it had money along with it (Superchats).
IMO the only way things change is apathy to the circus.
Haven't played PES 2017, but PES 2016 is the last one I could enjoy Vanilla. I jumped straight into 2018, and I kept on playing simply because the gameplay mods of the community, starting in PES2019, and more than playing and enjoying the game itself, I've been a beta tester during the last 3 years of my life trying to give feedback to several modders so we could fix all together the hell of a nightmare that was PES since 2018.
Rn I am in a state with PES 2021 where I play up to 90 min and kindoff can say I have an enjoyable gameplay, and still need to correct hella things though, but at least me in collaboration with @Jgames have been able to create something I can enjoy close to real football. Rn fixing a ball bounce problem that was present in last update, and after that, all that is left to fix is the player com controlled teammates to position in the pitch better, specially in defense, staying close to the enemy receiving player, without, at the same time, disorganizing defensive lanes.
I am concerned about gameplay and I've gotta say that some things of this new eFootball look even good (better positioned teammates, certain focus on the one on one absent in the previous games...), but simplifying the controls aside of not developing a whole game in Unreal, only rendering, while keeping those sometimes robotic animations, is a big nope for me. I don't care that much how a game looks, more even when community graphical patches make PES look way better than what eFootball will, at least vanilla release.
I am also not interested in online gameplay, and if I were, it seems like this new game that is just releasing now, called UFL, might be a better option, even more on the long run, cause it is developed entirely in UE, so better fluidity, animation transition, control response, etc, etc, that means, better gameplay.
So essentially, unless eFootball really brings some new updates to the gameplay, and having in count they removed right stick controls it seems they are walking the casual path... Dunno, it seems for me that modded PES 2021 with some additions we can dig out from this new eFootball, is the way to go. And probably there will be many people thinking as me.
