eFootball (All Platforms)

As terrible as I thought the beta was and this latest look doesn’t give confidence , the strategy itself isn’t surprising to me.

PES won’t be the last IP to go this route, ever since the success of the likes of Ultimate Team and the Free to play stuff like Fortnite, executives across publishers will always be looking at ways to fill their wallets more and more.

Look at the PS3/360 generation, Call of Duty became a ginormous IP throughout those systems life cycles and other publishers wanted in on that so we got a stream of First Person Shooter titles looking to cash in.

It’s all about the money, even outside of gaming. Look at YouTube, a few years ago who would of thought a uploader would only recognise a comment if it had money along with it (Superchats).

IMO the only way things change is apathy to the circus.
I don't have a problem with free-to-play and charging dlc for ML, actually. I have a problem with the game having shitty gameplay.

Haven't played PES 2017, but PES 2016 is the last one I could enjoy Vanilla. I jumped straight into 2018, and I kept on playing simply because the gameplay mods of the community, starting in PES2019, and more than playing and enjoying the game itself, I've been a beta tester during the last 3 years of my life trying to give feedback to several modders so we could fix all together the hell of a nightmare that was PES since 2018.

Rn I am in a state with PES 2021 where I play up to 90 min and kindoff can say I have an enjoyable gameplay, and still need to correct hella things though, but at least me in collaboration with @Jgames have been able to create something I can enjoy close to real football. Rn fixing a ball bounce problem that was present in last update, and after that, all that is left to fix is the player com controlled teammates to position in the pitch better, specially in defense, staying close to the enemy receiving player, without, at the same time, disorganizing defensive lanes.

I am concerned about gameplay and I've gotta say that some things of this new eFootball look even good (better positioned teammates, certain focus on the one on one absent in the previous games...), but simplifying the controls aside of not developing a whole game in Unreal, only rendering, while keeping those sometimes robotic animations, is a big nope for me. I don't care that much how a game looks, more even when community graphical patches make PES look way better than what eFootball will, at least vanilla release.

I am also not interested in online gameplay, and if I were, it seems like this new game that is just releasing now, called UFL, might be a better option, even more on the long run, cause it is developed entirely in UE, so better fluidity, animation transition, control response, etc, etc, that means, better gameplay.

So essentially, unless eFootball really brings some new updates to the gameplay, and having in count they removed right stick controls it seems they are walking the casual path... Dunno, it seems for me that modded PES 2021 with some additions we can dig out from this new eFootball, is the way to go. And probably there will be many people thinking as me.

Gotta say that didn't particularly restore any confidence.

Lemme get this out the way; if they want to focus on 1v1s so much why don't they just make a fighting game.

Anyways these are my thoughts going through this video.

If they improve dribbling, especially at speed, then great. That comment about the PS5 controller makes me wonder if there are other things that PS5 and Series S/X owners will have that everyone else won't. Watching the dribbling honestly it doesn't look that much different, but the look isn't important; it's how it will feel so I'll hold off judgement.

What's the point of Kubo talking about his mentality when dribbling? Doesn't really add anything in regards to discussion of changes to the dribbling mechanic.

Interactions in recent years have felt completely binary; either the player on the ball wins or the defender wins. So that worries a bit with however they augmented a defender's reaction to the player on the ball. I can see defenders 'being tricked' reacting in an exaggerated manner to make sure that the attacker really 'won' the interaction.

Terrible way to try to show defensive interceptions; he literally passes it to Fati lol

Nothing looking different in regards to physicality there. But once again that's a feel thing.

Special kicks and perks. Not really sure what a sharp kick is. What I am sure of is I am not a fan of longer animations. Long drawn out shooting animations have been one of my biggest issues with this game over the last few years. The idea of special abilities having a charge up time sounds very......gamey.

That focus on 1v1s is fine as long as they focus on the many other aspects of the sport with as much detail and dedication. It appears that hasn't been the case thus far. I'll give them the thus far.....for now.

They improved the fouls system? Lmao ok we'll see.

Team styles and AI play. I'll keep this short and simple because good lord I could actually talk about the AI in this trailer alone for an hour. The team styles shown are a downgrade and the AI looks as passive as ever. Next.

Duel cam.....it's not for me.

I'll hold off on commenting on fluidity of movement because that's more a feel than look thing. I'm curious which research institute they partnered with. The ball felt like a beach ball at times in 2021 so almost anything is an improvement.

Seamless restarts was the best looking thing in the trailer. Sports games don't have much on offer by nature, so things like this are crucial to maintaining the human player's immersion.

Listening to the community remains to be seen. But here lies the benefit of free to play; development will likely be a bit more coherent given they, hopefully, aren't adhering to the ridiculous yearly cycle. Which means they should be able to incorporate community feedback where it counts the most imo; the long term development of the game.

Overall this trailer isn't really great. They focused so much one aspect and likely interviewed actual footballing geniuses on that aspect alone. Why not talk to the men who teach the game? Whose job it is to understand the game holistically and not just one aspect? Whose job it is to know how said aspect fits together with the many others in a system or philosophy?

Imo they should've spent time with managers, various ones with various philosophies, you get a better idea of how the AI should behave. That would be so much better than asking 3 players about 1v1s.

This feels like a early access title and not a completed AAA game. My current stance hasn't changed; I'll continue to try and make PES 2019 play well as I've given up on 2021.

I don't get how people would also complain about the looser kits in 2021 it's like people can't stop complaining

Totally, it was a rain of criticism in this point last 2 years. In fact, It was a question in a survey of Konami about that. (tight kit style/Models)

For me they are more real-accurate the models in PES 2020/2021 than the new efootball (trailer)

I feel there's something wrong with the quick counter clip: anyone else thinking that the keeper should've come out in that situation instead of staying there halfway between the line and the attacker doing nothing and conceding a goal on the near post like that one?

This clip I mean:

Ahhh who the f**k cares at this point  And I mean that in the kindest way

I have a general concern about how KONAMI understands quick counter attack concept (this is about all previous years). For me quick counter was what Atletico Madrid used to play around 2014~2016, steal the ball behind the midfield, 2~3 quick passes and up to final third, with prolific runs.

Basically a counter attack can happen everywhere on the pitch. But yeah I agree with you, the scene shown looked more like what I would call high press.

i was taking the train home today from visiting my grandpa for his 87th birthday for two days and had a good read on the way back home.
crazy times I’m telling you. :BOUNCE:

I connect it to preset strategies in PES 2012-2013, where the quikcounter strategy sliders were too attacking, defense lines, attacking supports, all over 12/20... I mean it is like the game dictates that you must play attacking minded in order to play counter attacks.

Of course Counter attack can happen anywhere in the pitch, but when i read counter attack, the first example that comes in my mind is the CL knock out games playing style of Inter Milan, back in 2010.

Trailer doesn't say much imo. It looks like a standard pes trailer.
A lot of marketing terms we are used to. There was no real gameplay.
I don't see a lot of the so much advertised 'from the ground up' difference though. Thats not a good thing

We’ll all have to wait to see how it plays. If the game feels good, AI is solid, increased animations then I couldn’t honestly give af if the graphics aren’t true next gen. It’s the reason some of us still play pes 5 and 6. Some of the animations in the trailer do look pretty good, granted I know it’s asking a lot to be expecting truly improved gameplay from this company.

Konami...what have you done?!

We went from massive hopes with the teaser and new engine to this pile of 💩

This looks to be a massive backwards step from 2021. The tactics are horrendous and the visuals look like a PS3 game.

Guys, be ready for a more FIFA style PES. Lot's of cards and in the pitch, a much more dynamic game (which is not necessarily bad) but less tactic and strategical. If the game can be off-line modes, we could even have a better base than PES 2021, though the fact right stick is no longer used, worries me.

For the moment is all speculation, but I expect a much more casual game overall, having in count is a build evolved from the mobile version, yet some animations and additions can be really good.

If they listen to the community as they say they'll do, then maybe they start doing a good thing after half a year, yet the absence of right stick controls really worries me as hell since it emphasizes even more that feeling casual game. We'll see... For the moment is not very much to be discussed
