eFootball (All Platforms)

This has been part of PES for as long as I can remember. As an angsty teenager I remember nearly smashing controllers because of this. Playing on a high difficulty used to mean your striker taking a couple of extra touches when you were 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper, for example, and running straight into him. Infuriating.

Looking at the situation back then, I get it - you couldn't use a PSX chipset and make a challenging, organic AI. If you didn't allow the AI to cheat, you'd beat it every time. Yet - here we are on PS5s, and it's never gone away...

But I suppose the flip-side is what the other game suffers with, i.e. they can't make it hard enough without making Barnsley dribble like Barcelona, which has you turning the console off immediately.
I’m asking the community: how can organic difficulty level be achieved?
let’s get a bit more detailed here!

making your own players at hand/controller behave worse or making the opponent AI less error prone are the current tools used, if Im correct.
how could this be changed? Let’s assume the teams in a video game do exactly play their tactics like in real life, and 6er dropping back to defend ;) , what are the real life values that make Barnsley stand out for a day or a 2 week streak for example and how could this be translated into a video game?

imagine a game where everyone is forced to play manual as there is no PA1,2,3?

Yeah, good point. I play fuma since the 2014 Desaster and it's fabulous because, complete new things are possible and second you are rewarded for your own real skill. It's just more than an change in controls, it's competition.

Can't believe that the eSports multi million dollar competition are with assistant in Passes and shoots... playing on tournament with assisted controls is just bullshit. Imagine MotoGP with training wheels... 😂🤷🏼‍♂️

I think thast's the main flaw behind difficulty levels as a concept to be honest. If I'm playing as Barcelona against Barnsley I'm going to do better and win naturally, for that not to happen, and for me to have a real challenge even in these circumstances, the game is gonna have to make up for the difference in the teams' quality somehow, either by making mine worse, which is something most find annoying since it feels like it's taking control away from the player, or making the CPU better artificially, either increasing their stats or having them do plays they normally wouldn't be able to do, in this case the complaint is that "Every team plays like Barcelona.", so I don't really see a solution for the harder settings, it's always going to feel cheap, one way or another.

I really wish they'd add a neutral setting alongside the traditional difficulty settings, not as in medium difficulty, but truly neutral, as in the only thing that counts regarding how the CPU plays is the team's stats, so if I'm playing as Barcelona against Barnsley I'll have a comfortable time, but in the opposite scenario I'll have a genuine test, because strong teams will play very well and weaker teams not so much.

Let's be real: people won't like to be forced to play manual. The feedback would be overwhelmingly negative.
I agree, and honestly, as much as I love FUMA, it's how I play pretty much any football game now, I don't see why anyone should be forced to play in this setting, I wouldn't like if a game forced me to play on full assisted, for example. I can see this argument being made for competitive online, but even then all of those competitive players are under equal circumstances, so it's still fair, and in casual online play there's matchmaking options.

I know that getting matches online against someone that also plays on FUMA is tricky, so I guess an argument could be made to at least making assisted settings less assisted overall, I agree with that, but especially when we're talking about offline play, it's everyone's own business what settings they play on, so in that case the more settings you have the better it is for everyone.

Is it fanmade?
Of course :D Its PES letters are bigger that eFOOTBALL, and we all know that Konami want to remove PES from the name and to make one eFootball live service game for all platforms like Fortnite , Rocket League and Assassin Creed Infinity.
I see a lot "hype" for 21th... but boys and girls, still prepare for news that will not be liked by a huge part of the people here, especially those who are used to classic PES games! They will be most disappointed.

It's an interesting question and difficult to find an answer other than "simply make the AI better" and even that can be interpreted in different ways. Does it mean make them overpowered and play unrealistically ninja-like? Does it mean make them see and do things real footballers wouldn't realistically see in their field of vision and contradict their positioning to do so?

I think one thing we can all agree on is, increasing the difficulty by nerfing the players controls and inputs is straight up unacceptable bullshit and isn't a challenge or gives the game any feeling of merit or integrity, you're just fighting against controls and a blatantly rigged system.

I see people all the time complaining about Superstar difficulty and it's cheating and i think, Well of course, it's not a real difficulty, it doesn't resemble football. It's like trying to win a boxing match with your hands cuffed, you are not supposed to be an even match for it and it's just masochism.

For me at least the answer is to drop to lower difficulties like Professional which if it's easy can be balanced by playing FUMA. I know that's not to everyone's tastes and that's fine. But to me it's a damn sight better than being at the mercy of straight up sabotage for 20 minutes of my life.

Imagine playing a fighting game like Tekken or Street Fighter and as you get further and further into arcade mode, the later opponents are usually much more productive generally more combative but the input and decision making remains untouched lays with the player ultimately. Now imagine instead of the game making your later opponents more sophisticated and skilled it just made your character slower and your inputs less responsive. It would be far from subtl too wouldn't it? Imagine at a fighting game tournament and the game decides to boost one fighter while nerfing the other, both human players...

The audience would sniff that from a mile away and condemn it into a Cyberpunk 2077 hell of ridicule and scrutiny.

The biggest sin a developer can commit is taking away any agency whatsoever from the play over their input and decision making.

True. Even tho Im a huge fan of FUMA - it should be a choice. I dont play FUMA to make the game playable. I play FUMA coz I love the freedom and a chance to create something that would simply not be possible on assisted.
But the game should be good on all settings and people should have a choice.
Would be nice to have a clear and detailed filter for FUMA settings online, not this "similar settings" bollox. Its like a box of chocolates - you never know what you gonna get..

A bit off topic but not! just watch the first story and tell me if you can relate.

One of the most heartwarming things I've watched in a while, thank you for sharing this, PRO_TOO!

I really wish Konami would bring these guys back in the ML Defaults, I'd love to start a new ML with them, just to look at the gameplan for the first time and think "It's been a while, old friends". Also wish they'd bring back the old youth team players, I want to promote Shimizu, Palmeiri and Duffy again, dammit.

I miss the bald fella who was always in the reserves. He was my super sub - think he played on the wing?

eddington?

It might be Macco, loved him in PES2012, though at that point he grew hair, but I'm pretty sure he was bald in the PS2 days.

He was bald and called Matt from ISS PE2 to PES3, when he became Macco. Remained bald though. He and Eddington (Edingson in PES3) were both on the bench but I normally started both!

If you think you know your British Master League players from PS1/PS2...

Looking at how NBA 2k22 revealed today will be a horrible old-gen PC version 2nd year in a row, i guess its not just Konami anymore, all our sports games are slowly being ruined on the PC.

And as far as ePES 2022 go, it will either be 1) free to play and no offline anymore 2) another seasonal update of ePES 2020 at half price 3) charged as a new game but actually same features from the last game and not even with actual new engine or features, except for maybe some exclusive little useless graphical tweaks for the PS5 edition just so they can say something changed from 2020/2021 and so they can maybe even attempt to sell another more expensive version.

wow can't wait for the 21st, that will be make or break...
imagine a game where everyone is forced to play manual as there is no PA1,2,3? I long for those days...
in the future i will make that game, wait on me
Back in the golden age of gaming there were many games that were “full manual”. Player Manager for the Atari ST was essentially a full manual game versus the other games around which locked the ball onto players feet.

Running with the ball was both a challenge and a reward as it took skill to move around the pitch without losing it. Passing and shooting aswell offered no assistance, everything you did on pitch was through your own skill. Fabulous game.

Kids nowadays don’t know how they have things so easy with FIFA especially but PES too. Full manual should be forced on everyone. Bring back real skill.

I'm starting to be a little concerned about PES 2022 being next gen. So far there has not been any official confirmation.
Hopefully they reward us with the next gen version for having kept alive PES on PC with mods and stuff
