eFootball (All Platforms)

You can find good things in the game all day
This game is still bad and we probably will not even get ML.

I personally also do not see any potential in the game, the players are skating on ice.
If it's gotten worse than FIFA (and I hate FIFA) it's a sign that this game is really broken.

It seems to me that we need to understand that PES is over
They went for online and mobile and that's it

Having played quite a bit more, I'm really in two minds about it. Some things are bugging me no end:

- the target locking is the worst I've ever played in a game (I don't know if it's as bad on PA since I only play FUMA, but it's terrible for this). I mean: when you pass to an intended player, the auto-select switches to an option nowhere near the ball or the play in general. Kills moves in their tracks instantly.

- the player awareness for getting onto a ball is a really small circle around them (I don't mean the literal UI circle...) So unless you're holding match up and facing/approaching the ball, your players will often just ignore it even when it's close by. The same happens when receiving the ball in space (again, I only play FUMA, so maybe this happens less on PA where balls haven't gone into space for years).

- the online playing culture is already getting toxic and win-at-all-costs. That's a given with this sort of game, but depressing all the same.

- the sharp touch mechanic can be wonderful at times, but since you can pre-trigger it, whether or not you have the ball, it can result in some comically bad/stupid shit.

- players still run into each other a la the last several PES games. And that fucking animation where a player sticks his back leg out and kills a move is still in the game, for God knows what reason.

- the ball physics on ground passes are genuinely shocking. Newton would like a word. The grass provides literally no friction sometimes, it's like playing on ice.

We're in the same boat. Torn.

The target locking, especially, is infuriating. I think the off-the-ball movement is really impressive, making it all the more galling when you 'fail' to pick out a pass to one of these runners because instead it's selected the second or third nearest player to the target.

And, of course, eFootball (like its predecessor) looks its worst when the ball is in no man's land. As it ends up there quite often, it makes for a pretty unedifying spectacle at times; like moths slowly finding a light to circle around.

But when it comes together, I think it feels great. Big ifs and buts. The AI is far more varied, which is probably my biggest gripe with 2021.

Try changing cursor switching to semi assisted rather than fully assisted I had far more success then.

I noticed that immediately in the videos. I would add normal long passes to that as well (not sure about stunning haven't seen enough of them). That's why I'm not interested in getting my hands on the game yet, for me ball physics have always been a non-negotiable. There are some moments where the game does display impressive context appropriate physics, but these cases are the minority. Also I have the sense they still haven't figured out how to implement mid-air ball movement, the knuckle-ball physics for example always make it look like they've had some Japanese guy in the studio hold a ball on a stick in front of a green screen, it just looks very artificial when compared to some of FIFA's newer ball physics (probably the only good thing about that game aside from the nets).

Played V1.0 for a few matches - this is still a demo version, nothing more.
Playing this game is still a letdown for me.
If I want to play a footie game, I will play some matches in PES2021.
Fortunately Elden Ring takes a lot of my time, so no need for playing football games.

I will come back to eFootball and check the current status in about 5 or 6 month - maybe in 1 year or 2 - this might be a decent football game, who knows.

Right now I am wondering if UE4 was a good choice - for me this game feels weird over all...

Gave up on efootball as soon as it first came out and been playing FIFA till now. Heard about the recent update and gave it a trial again. Must say was pleasantly surprised. Been playing dream team online for past few days and am enjoying it. Hopefully will get better with future updates. Agree it would be nice to have option to play dream team during day. Is there an option to configure/change the corner kick takers somewhere in the game plan?

Yes the manual passes are an absolute pain in the backside, the game just can't pick who I want to pass the ball to, even if the pass itself is perfect.
I switched to basic shots for now as I get to grips with it and there is either more emphasis on aiming, or more built in failure for lower level players. I have put a ball into the post from 6 yards out with an open goal and also shot way wide like I would often do with manual if I forget about aiming.

Have Konami mentioned anything about bringing in any kind Defensive tactical styles/options? Seems like there’s only attacking at the moment…

So bad it makes me want to stop playing, frankly. I don't know if they'll fix it tbh...

Ha, that's actually a really good comparison!
The AI is far more varied, which is probably my biggest gripe with 2021.
I think it possibly is more varied. Though there aren't that many variations in total, I think. I mean: it feels like they decided to create those 5 team playstyles, look at how the players should be in the three main phases of play (in possession, transition, in defence), and programmed some half decent recreations of what teams should do in those moments. It's not perfect. I like the Possession Game style, with a +1 attacking level – then the team shape is actually like a real pressing/possession side for a bit.

It seems pretty simple overall, but that's a benefit: the many tactical layers of PES 2015> got so muddled and complicated. I never knew what took precedence for the AI's instruction.

A lot of my FUMA mates are finding they're hitting the target fine but the goalies save most of their shots, while Assisted shots are going in a lot. I think Konami mentioned buffing Basic shooting, and then they added the Stunning modifier which is itself a buff. I'm scoring a few Manual shots here and there; a lot are rebounds unfortunately. I don't feel it's particularly different to PES in respect to shooting though.

Not sure what you mean exactly – there's the playstyles and then there's the individual instructions. I guess you're talking about playstyles, because the instructions are explicitly separated into offensive/defensive options? If you use the right-stick and scroll along the play style tactical overview screens, you can see it covers defensive behaviour too, so e.g. "Possession Game" covers not just having the ball but how quickly players try to get it back immediately after losing.

It's rather basic at the moment and somewhat one-size-fits-all. I would like some more granular options, but I also want them to be coherent and not clashing like before. At least these work.

Ah right, I didn't realise it showed how the defensive side is imapcted from the playstyle too. Thanks.

The game's strong point are definetely the visuals.

The teammate AI and overall lack of spatial awareness are a pain the rear. Same thing with the CPU intercepting passes that pass behind them or sometimes seemingly teleporting right in front of the ball when they were like 6 feet to the side in relation to the ball's path. Teammate goalkeepers letting in normal shots while the CPU keeper doing supersaves is odd as well. It has some interesting moments but some pretty annoying stuff. Konami needs to seriously thorough work on this game imo

Well it's the 5th day I've been on this game, while the issues are coming out more than on the first 2 days I'm happy to say the positives are still shining through and even getting better. I've smiled this much in a long time, last few months haven't been great but turned into a dream about 5 weeks ago and PES (its going to take me a while to get used to saying just efootball) being playable a fresh has been just lovely.

I think it would be important for us all including me to start rounding up all the major bugs.

- The biggest issues are definitely responsiveness, keepers have problems at times rushing out and misread where the ball is causing some bizarre silly goals or instances.

- Numerous times I cross and the player does even attempt the first time shot, especially online.

- The referee while giving more penalties than before is still a fucking asshole. He calls fouls 65% of the time but misses blatant fouls which just seem to be coding errors as its certain types of tackles never get called.

- Shielding is shit, the AI usually just cheese tackle you off the ball anyway and similar online, I still stand by L2 being a total waste just having that there, I want Manual modifier back. A entire button dedicated to something you only use in certain situations? I think auto shielding like we had before was fine, make manual shielding optional but give us back manual modifier on L2.

- Trigger player runs would be welcome, sometimes players just ignore space to make good runs.

Whatever other flaws people are seeing please post them because Konami need this data, i like what's there now but the game still needs to improve quite a bit.

Moving away from these core gameplay problems onto tactics which is very promising in its basic setup but its a problem because its way, way too basic. Its causing a few issues in general because is too much 'one size fits all'. You cant play like Wolves, Inter or Crystal Palace who play possession based football on the ball but don't always play such a high line, they are adaptable in defence depending on the opposition. We need the slider settings back as soon as its possible! This game will not get near its potential without it, I really do respect Konami for setting up these 5 playstyles to be realistic by default finally... taken them years but we are here, still they need more in regarding to controlling exactly how you want you team to play off the ball. For the AI I really noticed how these basic tactic settings make Real Sociedad harder to play against than Real Madrid. Two strikers is the most effective way to play right now whatever style of formation you use, since Real Sociedad have Isak & Sørloth with David Silva pulling strings behind them they just bully you. Real Madrid with a 4-3-3 just isn't as effective despite having way better players.

As for online if the connection is crap online its as you expect like the previous PES games, FIFA etc.., however if you have a stable decent connection even online vs a muppet with all the best & legend players just spamming passes forward you an beat players just dribbling round them. You can slow the game down, play at your pace and make you ability on the ball count. It's when you play against someone whos actually good at the game with a super team you fucked unless you have a team of 7-8 legends and CR7/Messi/Neymar etc...

What's happening with this game exactly on Thursday the 21st? Is it just the official start of the game online league or what? Offline will there be anything to actually do bar 5 minute friendlies?

I know and can clearly see that these 5 playstyles are Konami going back to PES 2011-2014 and having 'Preset Tactics' but they in efootball are hiding what the settings used for each one are. I expect like 2012-2014 if you have for example 'Possession Game' if they bring the sliders back in, I think we will receive:

POSSESSION GAME *locked*
SHORT PASS *locked*
CENTER or WIDE
MAINTAIN or FLEXABLE
SUPPORT RANGE 1-3

I thinkin defense while this seems to be the default for 'Possession Game'

FRONTLINE PRESSURE *locked*
CONTAINMENT AREA WIDE *locked*
AGGRESSIVE *locked"
DEFENSIVE LINE 8-10
COMPACTIVNESS 1-5

They may have removed attacking area, containment area and compactness for all I know however the rest I mentioned are clearly still the main drivers of what's happening.

One thing I do like how each player has a suitability to each style in Dream Team, this shows heavily you players behave off the ball so much. More depth can be brought in when you have the freedom to design you own tactics, certain types of setups could help integrate a player who doesn't suit your style.

I do think once we actually get something offline not only will this need to return but also fluid formation. Konami don't believe wing backs exist and all the 352 or 343 formations are just fucked because the 'SMF' or 'Side Midfielders' don't bother defending. Shame about 'Wingback' not being available anymore! Advanced tactics that you turned on and off holding L2 is sorely missed in al of this, showing how much the sheilding button is a waste of time.

Yes..It's there where you also choose the captain, the free kick takers etc..I don't remember exactly now where..but i think you go to Team then Player Roles or something..Anyway it's not difficult to find..just take a closer look and you'll find it..

Yeah I agree the tactical options need more depth, but how Konami decide to implement them is going to be very very crucial in my opinion. The Advanced Instructions on PES were a mess and created lots of rigid and conflicting behaviour, and that's what took away a lot of the organic feeling from the AI. Too often they were running to where the instructions told them to be, ignoring the ball and the context of the moment.

I do like how they've stripped it back at the moment, but hope they can build out a system that has some more depth to it without bringing back those issues...

How to you change play style tactics mid game? (PS5)
On the d-pad hold up or down for 1-2 seconds..You will see that it will say Defensive on the screen..That means that you now changed to you sub-tactic where you can put different formation different instructions etc..Hold it again up or down and it will say Offensive..that means that you changed back to your primary tactics..

There's presently no edit mode at all, so what does this mean?
I think what he means is that you can change the team and team name you initially selected at the start of Dream Team. I wanted one of the J-League teams as I really liked the kit, but couldn't remember the name and selected the wrong one. I did figure out somewhere that I could switch the team to a different one, so eventually got the kit I wanted

EDIT: Jubilo Iwata's Admiral 80's England kit rip off 😍

I meant at the beginning of the game we had to pick a favourite team and choose team name and i just rushed through as expected this game to be crap and i wanted to hopp in a game quickly. And now i stuck with a random team :D and i was wondering if this can be changed at all?

You can, see my comment above. I did exactly the same thing.

Today's sign in bonus was about 60K in total? Whatever it was, I was able to fill my Liverpool squad with it. Is it the same team that will be set up against Manchester United tonight? Probably not. But I like it and I already have some mini narratives going on within it, like in a good ML run.
Jota has been poor and he just can't seem to hit the net. I try to move him up front but it hasn't been much luck either. Elliot has been a lot more effective, he is a crossing machine and a good finisher. Minamino is quick and agile but gets pushed off the ball easily. Konaté is a beast in defence, has excellent tackles, commands the air and honestly just looks like real life Konaté.

The numbers are still a bit low, is that a manager thing or something? I honestly haven't gone that deeply into that to figure it out. Also, what a flattering image they found for Tsimikas!

Whatever bitch-ass mobile engine they have running under the hood, Konami do have some very promising stuff going on with it. When the AI beats me with a dribble I am usually awed rather than annoyed, they have some excellent moves to leave me in the dirt. The AI is a bit prone to losing the ball in their half but that might be a difficulty thing. I remain on professional as it is quite challenging still. I really like the "stunning" things, although the most powerful shots for me yet have been first time shots, some of those could take a goalkeepers head off. Still on basic, like I said before they have way bigger error margins than in previous games. I will be working on going FUMA but as it stands I don't mind basic.

Something wrong with player ratings. Who's your manager? I've got a squad of Italians 72-79, Luis Enrique on the bench, and all ratings are ok

Manager and its team style, players have it too. You can pick a manager but not change his tactics, but you can use hte XP to adapt their team style to the manager's. Finally something makes sense unlike that foggy, unclear team spirit.

EDIT: snap, those are player ratings u have not team style ratings. Just bought Bobby Firmino myself he is 81 as SS without any training progression.

I guess I will be saving points for a new manager then. Have just been laser-focused on filling the squad.
