Did it...

It says "live update successfully deleted"...

Then immediately redownloads it again.

...

Only Konami, man. Only Konami.
I can't actually come up with any realistic, logical reason why the user experience in regards to menu's and the odd omission of settings exist.

I want to believe it's intentionally bad, to deliberately frustrate the user, but again, why? What's the pay off?

Then I want to believe it's just simply designed by a group of fools and never got focused tested, but again, why? Why would you not ensure it doesn't cause problems?

It's like never checking your parachute before putting it on and jumping out of a plane... It's like shitting and never wiping your arse to check you're good as you go about your day. Why do something so drastic and never run some kind of proactive check?

Honestly - literally the last PES (2021) had every single pre match setting all on the same screen; Strip selection, Stadium, Gameplan, General settings etc... All in the same menu.

Now, It's *

  • Clunk
  • Fade to black
  • Load next screen
  • Clunk
  • Fade to black
  • Load next screen

So awkward and so unnecessary. All because WE MUST see their 3D rendered stadiums and pre, pre match cutscene's that get old after the first time seeing them. At least give us the option to disable these, but no. We must suffer and endure them, every time. For goodness sakes. I thought we moved on from the torture of GTA V's online lobbies and in a day and age where you're competing against the likes of Fortnite & FIFA and you can be in a contest within moments of booting those games, These guys still can't even rip off any of their own previous game's for a pleasurable ride through it's menu's.

I really enjoy the on the pitch action, I really do but it seems with Konami, as usual, it's a complexity of 10 and an execution of 5 when it should be the other round in regards to the basics.

I really hope all these dudes who have 5 legends, 8 all star players once the contracts are up after one year, they have to buy these players again on full price in every 60 days.
Let them enjoy it for the rest of the season, they had to put up with v0.9.1 for quite a bit to get those rewards :PP

I know and can clearly see that these 5 playstyles are Konami going back to PES 2011-2014 and having 'Preset Tactics' but they in efootball are hiding what the settings used for each one are. I expect like 2012-2014 if you have for example 'Possession Game' if they bring the sliders back in, I think we will receive:

POSSESSION GAME *locked*
SHORT PASS *locked*
CENTER or WIDE
MAINTAIN or FLEXABLE
SUPPORT RANGE 1-3

I thinkin defense while this seems to be the default for 'Possession Game'

FRONTLINE PRESSURE *locked*
CONTAINMENT AREA WIDE *locked*
AGGRESSIVE *locked"
DEFENSIVE LINE 8-10
COMPACTIVNESS 1-5

They may have removed attacking area, containment area and compactness for all I know however the rest I mentioned are clearly still the main drivers of what's happening.

One thing I do like how each player has a suitability to each style in Dream Team, this shows heavily you players behave off the ball so much. More depth can be brought in when you have the freedom to design you own tactics, certain types of setups could help integrate a player who doesn't suit your style.

I do think once we actually get something online not only will this need to return but also fluid formation. Konami don't believe wing backs exist and all the 352 or 343 formations are just fucked because the 'SMF' or 'Side Midfielders' don't bother defending. Shame about 'Wingback' not being available anymore! Advanced tactics that you turned on and off holding L2 is sorely missed in al of this, showing how much the shielding button is a waste of time.
On hindsight, and based on the stuff I've noticed, I'm convinced that Konami did not do anything to the code in order to make the "locked" difficulty levels ready to be used on this v 1.0... Uusally, the guys who are longtime PES players developed the habit of playing the game on the highest diffculty level (you folks want your footie games to be like the Souls' of sports games :P ) and the begginers might play with lower difficulty levels (until maybe Intermediate level) and the casual players might go with something like the Professional level (which isn't readily available to be chosen) so I guess that the oddities are more prone to show through on the "less used levels".

If they allowed us to re-create these "final showdown" Fox Engine games using Unreal Engine I believe we'd (the community that is) give Konami a run for their money (and maybe even threaten their business for real :P )

Am I the only one who finds it very difficult to block passing lanes when you successfully predict what the opponent is going to do? I find that my player just doesn't react to the ball that's slowly rolling right past him.

I'm surprised the eSports crowd haven't picked up on this, given that it's a "I did something clever and got no reward for it, disgusting" scenario.

the shoulder charge button helps with intercepting

Are you using match up when intercepting passes? I've found they stick a leg out if you press LT whilst the the pass is going near my player. I think the defensive stats play quite a big role in how big the area or cone of effect is for intercepting.

I'm thinking of re-mapping match up back to X button. Seemed more intuitive in version 0.9

Are you using L2 (match up)? I think its use is supposed to make your defending player react by block shots and passes. But there are still glaring holes in the gameplay and ignoring your input and players ignoring the ball are 2 recurring themes. I do fear they won't fix some of these issues as they've been in the game for at least 3 years.

Still, there's enough good stuff and new stuff to keep me entertained for now.

Thanks @captain8lunt / @Goldstone / @normazimuth / @SKYHIGHTREES - I haven't been using L2 i.e. "match up" when blocking passing lanes. I thought that was for when you're close to the player to jostle. Though I did wonder how you're supposed to choose between pressing that, "pressure", "shoulder-charge" or "manual tackle"! I'll keep at it...
If you haven't done so, it's well worth reading Konami's guide. It gives valuable hints as to when to use what. There are a lot of new commands and learning them really does make the gameplay shine.

L2 intercepts yes. It's great but you do need to time it right, also dont hold it or it wont work
I re-mapped x into match up and i hold it everytime my players are behind the ball. Its easier to move player to fill spaces and block passing lane with matchup. But the risk is you can get beaten 1on1. You have to play with dash, analog, pressure and match up commands wisely

I suggest to swap L2 with X. Match-up/Intercept is way more important than Pressing.

I spent 8 hours downloading it, played only for 23 minutes (half of the time to customize the settings in PC), and then I uninstalled it.

On the graphic side, I like most of its aspects, but I think is really bad optimized. It's a 20% better than PES 2021, but it runs terrible in the same computer. Too much requirements for such a little improvement.
Some new moves here and there, a totally changed gameplay. I found crossed controls that drove me nuts. And the menu... the menu is a mess, it's by far the worst I have seen in a game. They didn't hire a UX/UI designer. Otherwise, I can't explain what happened.

I will give it a try again in 1 or 2 years, when is complete/fixed. In this state is totally unplayable for me, I can't imagine how the 0.7 version was.

the shoulder charge sticks a leg out but i think any of the defending buttons sort of wakes up the player, doesnt work 100% of the time

Match up has multiple uses. It will jostle & jockey close to the player, sometimes triggering the 'hands behind the back' animation. You can use it as a single press tackle if timed correctly & the intercepting we mentioned.

It's also a fantastic shot & cross blocker too! Players will jump & turn or stick a knee out to deflect any incoming attacks on the goal.

It's in my opinion the most important skill to master for defending now but does come with some risks.

L1 + pass makes the passer go for a straight run. R2 (I switched it with R1) is making the passer go forward in a cross over run. This allows for some cool stuff.

How to drag the ball back?

its super important you let go of the L stick here and there. Player moves slower, without ball, mates get in position, a dash here, a sharp turn there. Slow it down and don’t push the L stick all the way. 😉

How are people performing Sharp Touches? The Konami guide says to dribble with L stick and fully press and release R2, which should cause the double-circle to appear under you player, but it never works for me. But if I double click R2, I get the double circles and what I presume are the various sharp-touch animations playing out, depending upon which way I aim the L stick. But that's effectively the same command as a double-click sprint from PES21, so is this actually the correct way to perform a sharp touch?

Also, has anyone worked out to consistently perform the sharp-touch in which your player knocks the player past the defender on one side (eg. left) and then runs around the other side (right) of the defender and gets the ball? I could do it consistently in v0.9 but have only managed it a couple of times in v1 and am not even sure how I did it.

I think I remember a game using triangle as run. Was it early FIFAs? I still replace circle and square since 1998 :)

I cant help it, actually it stuck with me bc of This Is Football :D
But im too old now to change, it took me years during the PS3 era too to get used to the Trigger + Left Stick for driving games :D I still miss the D-pad and :x::square: combo :D
