+ best AI in a football game
Is that meant to be "...ever", or just of the most recently released football games? (I.e. PES 2021, FIFA 22)
+ you can play vs ai in Dream Team( MyClub)
I feel like this isn't really a plus point. You could make it a negative if you think of it this way: "can only play vs AI in Dream Team".

Because for a week, that's been the reality, and still no word on exhibition mode. With no edit mode, you're also playing vs the same terribly kitted Spanish League teams over and over, with no league structure and nothing to aim for.

So if playing offline is your big thing, I feel like this "plus point" is only good if you're so gracious to the master for giving you some food scraps.

Otherwise, it's a reasonable list :)

Daily reminder that they don't care about offline and i still don't understand why people tries to play it offline when it's clearly just an online game right now.

Will be offline when (IF) they will add Master League and Edit mode. Best to wait next year for those.

I think it is "ever" for me.
Besides the keepers, one thing is missing is the adaptive subs/formation change. In PS2 PES games if AI lost a defender, pulled a striker off and replaced him with a new defender, or changed formation from 4 defenders to 3 to fit the new line up. Or if they went into a second leg with a 1-0 win, they lined up with 2 DMFs instead with the usual 1 what is in their basic line up. In this area the AI is superior, but if its just on the pitch, i think this is the best AI.

How do you square best ever with the lack of AI responsiveness? Or the players that walk in front of the play mindlessly and block passes/crosses? Or the acres of space in most team shapes unless you set up very specific conditions (e.g. Possession Game, +1 attacking level, pushing into the half, high player-manager affinity)?

There are some genuinely good AI elements in this game but it's incredibly incomplete and still lacking. PES has been shit at this for a while; it's not just an eFootball thing. But I do think because we've been starved of decent AI for so long, we get a little too orgasmic over seeing the AI do nice dribbles or an overlap.

Anyone had the opportunity to play a local match on PS5? I wish I could test this with a human opponent locally. A like minded opponent if possible. 😊

I haven't done locally. I know you can do it via shareplay online. My friends have played FUMA matches online using "Quick Match" on Dream Team. Apparently because pretty much everyone plays via the challenge event option, the quick match player pool is basically empty. That's good. I didn't think it would be an actually separate pool, but apparently it is.

Yeah, I know about shareplay, but for me, nothing beats local multiplayer (fun and connection wise). 🤷‍♂️

- AI responsiveness: im not sure which responsiveness is the issue? Only one i can think about comes out when lower rated players play vs higher rated ones but i think thats given. Or if you can elaborate on this, please. Sometimes i see mistakes in the back from the AI but that i think its great, its very human like.
- Players that walk in front of the play mindlessly and block passes/crosses: not really seeing this again, all my blocks are blocks....well when the AI blocsk something, especially on Legend....that could be a little annoying. But now playing back to back online and offline Legend, its just as annoying that someone who cant play but uses all star players who do autmatically anything for the person.
- Acres of space in most team shapes: I think this is the thing in old PES games too, not saying it makes it right but even in old games you could do a pass from the CB to the CF...you just couldnt turn and shoot. Which now applies again because of the Match Up feature and Block features. I think overall both human and cpu can cover the space on the field. Althoug i feel too that in the past perhaps the pitch was a bit smaller, or player models bigger perhaps.

Well.. It seems like the game is not that bad as per the opinions and reviews. I'm in the same situation as @ElChachoCoudet as I couldn't run the game on my low budget PC...

My internet speed is alright. Finished downloading within 2-3 Hours, but played it for 25 minutes approx (including all the customization and Dream Team look around and stuffs). Hope I can run this game within another 2 or 3 years, when I actually get a high-end PC.

By the way, it's all happened in the launch day (14th April) itself. Never downloaded it again since then..

Almost the same! I know they were 23 minutes only because it appears when you close the game in Steam. Before getting a new computer, I will wait the game to be optimized first. It can't be THAT demanding.
Look this guy: using a RTX 3070ti and can't reach 60fps @ 1080p

It's madness that I could run PES2021 on medium settings on my old PC (6th gen i5, 16Gb DDR3 RAM, GTX 960) and 4k60 on my new PC (11th gen i5, 16Gb DDR4, RTX 3070ti) yet eFootball can't do 1080p60 on my new one

Unbelievable. I'm using a RTX 2060 standard. I thought you would be able to reach 60 FPS @ 1080p with any better gpu. But the optimization is worst than I thought. Definitely is not a "Crysis-like" game to force someone to make a PC swap.

Honestly, I gave the game another real go. I actually created my Dream Team (no legends) and enjoyed it. Gameplay on Professional vs the AI is where I'm happy, and it's quite fun. Sure, there are definitely weird animations and behaviors - I'll call them legacy issues of instant attack/defend (sprinting away on 50/50 balls) and the terrible start/stop animations. However, there is a learning curve in defending and trying to get that right, without looking up tutorials, is a nice little challenge. I feel it's close to FIFA's legacy defending, but with added momentum to time just right. You can't just hold down R1 the entire time, but you can use it to mark off intended passing lanes while controlling another player. There are some responsiveness issues, but super-cancel works just fine to get things back in check.

I don't think I want to play online because the legends thing to me is immersion-breaking. Hopefully, edit mode and all the good stuff comes soon, but for now, this will do. For how long? I have no idea. Not sure I want to keep playing in the same stadium/environment for too much longer.

Overall, pleasantly surprised on the second go-around, and enjoying the way I'm playing it.

If you use the fps unlocked mod then you won't be capped at 60, I'm getting 90 fps at 1440 with a 1080ti

Interesting you're finding a way to enjoy it (for now).

Did you try selecting a possession heavy manager and choosing Possession Game as your style? If you put +1 on the attacking level, when you attack, the shape actually resembles something like a real team as you push into the opponent's half.

I keep banging on about it because it seems somewhat revelatory after so long without any real shape.

Of course, it still struggles to replicate proper midfield congestion. But it's a step forward (I hope).

What are the drops like though? For me when there's a lot of players on screen it drops below 60, I've not even got FRAPS on but I can tell it's buckling and in no way a locked 60FPS
do you have the fps unlocker installed? never goes below 80 unless its a cutscene. Without the fps unlocker it was hovering on 57 and didnt feel as good

I've been singing the games praises since it's been updated and generally haven't had any bullshit scripted sessions. But all of it kicked in at once with the online session I just had. You know the typical missing open goals somehow, having all the possession, my players not moving, his players playing like heros in defence, my players being kicked the crap out of yet no fouls and me getting red cards for normal fair tackles. Ended up losing 3 games on the spin this way ending with the worst piece of scripting I've ever seen in a game before and my girlfriend was watching was genuinely shocked because I've talked to her about scripting but she didn't believe me. Unfortunately I raged so hard I didn't get to save it but he literally hit the bar with a free kick and the ball came out and it was awarded as a goal........... Not bounced up and down from hitting the inside of the crossbar it solidly hit the face and bounced out.

It's the first session where I've felt really heavy scripting. I'm praying it doesn't become a regular thing because so far it's felt really balanced.

I'm trying to be charitable with this version because there are some things that I like, but there are some things that really annoy me as well.

Playing dream team against the AI is ok. It can be quite challenging. It's serviceable, and the AI isn't as stupid as it was in the last version. The goalkeepers though... Goalkeeper AI is bipolar. One minute they're ok, making decent saves, the next minute, they let in easy goals like in Fifa. And can they stop coming off their lines like Neuer?

One thing that needs to be addressed is the lack of in-game tactical options. How in the hell do they not have off the ball player runs as an option to utilize against your opponent? Or maybe some personalized instructions for specific players? Maybe I've been playing too much FM, and I'm afforded a plethora of options for that game, but how can you have a football game and not have this feature or similar ones available? I'm getting tired of my forwards standing still. They move forward only when you do 1-2 passing, but I shouldn't have to do that. It needs to be implemented in the next update.

Dream team against other players is bad. The input delay is one of my biggest issues right now with this mode. It's not fun at all. I can download gigabytes of stuff in the matter of minutes on my PC. I have a super fast connection on LAN so I know for a fact my connection isn't the issue.

Improvements to this game still hasn't assuaged my uneasiness towards Konami and their direction of this franchise. They need to do a lot more.

I've just been playing PA1, but am considering FUMA. Will probably lose more, but there's definitely some freedom of the ball I want to explore.

I just chose the default manager - haven't even touched that yet. Also, I haven't touched any sort of tactics other than change my lineup. You're right about the attack +1. I was down 2-0 and did that, instantly everyone was pushing up and my WB overlapped with more depth.

Another good point you make about the midfield - it's definitely not there. Very much man marking it feels, and the battles that happen are more from underhit passes rather than passing lanes being blocked. Somehow though, it's still fun.

Did you realise Matt that PA1 in efootball is the most assisted? They've switched them around for some reason. PA3 is the new equivalent of 1(semi assisted) & PA4 is manual 👍.

I think he was being sarcastic
I was :)

What has surprised me is how low the bar is these days for PES players. When I see people saying how much they’re enjoying this it makes me scratch my head. We’ve had some highly addictive and enjoyable football games from Konami over the decades. And the same people who enjoyed the likes of Pro Evolution Soccer are enjoying this so much? I must be missing something. I think it’s because many of us are desperate for a good football game (I include myself in this) and we’re clutching at anything at this point.

The game isn’t terrible but it’s like fun for, what, 5 minutes? (There’s another joke in there).

The passing feels nice but everything else is so bland. Scoring a goal gives me no joy whatsoever. And ‘Dream Team’ can f**k off as can Konami. The myClub kids have finally got what they wanted - Fortnite the Football Game.

I do think there's a broad lowering of standards going on.

But on the other hand, I think you have to concede that people have different red lines, regard as important different components of a sim, and so on. That's always been the case and it explains why you can have people sing from the rooftops about how much of a great "sim" e.g. PES 2018 was (downgraded AI but more responsive dribbling).

That's going on now as much as ever, and with some new variety and difference in the game itself, this explains why people are managing to have fun with the game or hold their nose a bit with it.
